Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread

I‘m a Power Hitting Left Fielder who got drafted to the Marlins organisation. While being unbelievable consistent and good in AA for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (lol the name is just hilarious) I have been called up to the Marlins skipping AAA in July of the first season. Now in the Majors I‘m not doing as well as I could. I‘m impatient and swinging way too much and when I try to hold off I get striked out looking a bit too much for my liking on pitches on the edge of the zone. I have to improve on that for sure. It‘s a big step for an 18yo from AA to MLB.

The most annoying thing which wants me to get traded is the „Miiiaaamiii, Miiiaaamiii“-chants on home games. Oh my they distract me and break my concentration

Is there any benefit to delaying going to the draft and going to college?

For those of you guys that imported a player from 17...could you please help me mentally preparing myself for what I can expect.

So imported my player last night but haven't played one game yet.

Currently his contact for L and R, Power vs L and R are all 90 plus 92 speed.

Obviously when I choose an archetype some of these will fall out of bounds in regards to the hard caps put in place with the chosen archetype.

Now my question is in regards to the stats that will regress to fit within the archetype how slow/fast can I expect these stats to regress? I know they said it will be gradual, someone said only after the age of 35 etc. But that was all before the game released.

Out of your experience what regression can I expect for let's say the hard cap for my speed is 70, but it is currently 92...

Would really appreciate if anyone can give me their input of what they've seen. Just want to hear it, make peace with it and hopefully enjoy the mode as I did in the past.

I think you get a little boost in certain stat areas that you could pick, but honestly you probably make more gains by playing the season

It is dependent on how you perform the more times you get negative triggers in a game ie a bad ground out or something without something to balance it out in that game the faster you'll go down. I'm in June my with a Mr reliable SS and because I don't specifically use power swings even though my cap is a 70 it hasn't gone down (but if I had messed up with a power swing it might have). My plate discipline has gone down 1 because of a game with a couple bad swings/strikeouts. My batting clutch went down 1 because of a game of making some bad groundouts with players in scoring position. With my Ball hawk CF there's been more regression I've dropped 5 points vs righties and 3 vs lefites in contact due to various "bad" contact plays

Not really. You get to 1 training session, but it seems most people get drafted later and later the more they go to college, plus you'll be a year older. Not worth getting a 2 point head start in contact imo

Just wanted to highlight these replies. Didn't realize when I was first reading through this post that this was a dev replying to these. Definitely useful things for people to see. Big thanks to Smerka for taking some time to come in here and answer some questions

I am not entirely certain what happened to you, in this situation, but I do apologize.

                  1. You gain in Arm Strength, through Focus Training sessions and not in game.
                  2. This sounds like you have earned enough points to increase one attribute to a new whole amount (51->52 or 53, etc.), while the others are progressing partially (51 1/3 -> 51 3/4). Certain attributes cost more than other to increase.

                  Does this help?

It might be that the camera view does not like the on screen display.
^^Wanted to comment on this one. I'm playing SS/2B and there are times that I don't get + to reaction as well. IDK if it is time based (meaning I didn't press towards the ball quick enough) or a bug. But I'd guess that this person is having the same thing happen to them in the OF. So idk that it is related to using R3, because I don't ever use it in the IF

I gotta say this is the first year where I can actually enjoy being a closer.

At the moment I'm just up in the bigs with the Marlins and stuck in a reliever role, starting around 4th or 6th and going for 2 innings, pitching wise we are BAD and I regularly start in the 4th with 4-0 down and 1 or 2 on base, and I love it, I can pitch out of the jam.. the commentators are talking about how I am a MR Fixer which is cool. So I am not complaining at this point. Would love to get traded to my Cubs eventually but am content to see how this plays out.

Is there a way to jump or dive manually? I feel like ive tried all combos of buttons. The only way ive managed to do it, is when the game prompts me via showtime.

I think one of the big things that helps being a closer this year is that your skills don't regress due to time of not adding to the skill point which is hard to gain as a closer sometimes. I actually believe the closer is the position that improved the most with the in-game progressions. (I do like being rewarded for using that attribute on the field though with any position)

                          I believe it’s R1 to jump, R2 to dive.

I've tried that. Im not sure maybe if its in my settings? R2 activates show time which just has me run to the ball in slow mo.

ok. so raising the velocity of my secondary off-speed pitch finally let me raise the velocity of my fastball but my second problem still exists. i have played 3 full seasons in AAA and my control and velocity is maxed out on all three of my pitches but i have STILL not been offered a fourth pitch. I have heard that I was supposed to get offered a 4th pitch in the offseason. well i played 3 full and even simmed through six seasons. at the end i was overall 76 and STILL only had 3 pitches.....suggestions? im obviously not keeping the sim, i want to actually play my character, but dang it, i want a fourth pitch option rofl
