Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread

Can anyone explain to me how I could be the MVP, lead the league in BA, HR, RBI and just about everything else and not be a starter going into spring training the next year. The guy we traded for and I started over half the year, some how got better over the off-season while I stayed the same and now starts because he is an 84 and I’m a 83. This just seems crazy to me and no GM ever would bench a guy who broke basically every offensive record, and who is only going to improve with playing time. These are the parts of the game that drive me crazy and need to be fixed. I guesd I’ll be an MVP, HR, hit, and RBI season record holder Pinch Hitter until this guy gets injured. Lol at the stupidity of this!

Yea all AI decisions based on your player seem to be completely based on ovr (and potentially potential grade) at least at the beginning of seasons.

My player won MVP, triple crown, etc. (even though we missed playoffs) and come the next season they have me batting 6th/7th in the lineup

Yea it is crazy. I even forgot to mention winning the triple crown and being playoff and World Series MVP. Oh well I guess that’s the way it goes. Lol!

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread

Right or wrong, it appears that the game does not care about offensive stats and instead uses the player's skill levels (and if I am not mistaken it's the defensive skills that the games values more) when it comes to promotions and who gets the starting position, and who rides the bench.

BTW ... something unexpected happened to my Braves AAA pitcher last night. He was promoted to the MLB. But he was not promoted in the usual after the All Star break or during Spring Training time frame that we often hear about. No he was promoted in the last week of July but before the trade deadline This is the same Braves pitcher that was previously promoted to the MLB after the AA All Star break (skipping AAA altogether) except that I mistakenly saved over that guy's MLB 18 save file with another RTTS player save and had to go back to MLB 17 to resurrect this Braves pitcher. He's pitched well in his 4 AAA starts, but he's still only a 69 and I am fearful that he is being called up to the Show too soon. Of course only time will tell. I know I am getting better at working low in the zone and purposely throwing out of the zone when I get up in the counts with my Padres MLB pitcher. So perhaps this Braves pitcher can keep his head above water. Just bringing it all up because I was not expecting to be promoted late in July days before the trade deadline and now I wonder if this means he may be trade bait. LOL

Lol, it's game revenge for so many players building RTTS position players through contact and power first. I still remember that RTTS thread about having all star player in the majors after 3 years focusing exclusively on power.

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread

I can't reiterate how important it is to NOT do auto saving in RTTS and instead do manual saves. My Braves pitcher made his MLB debut last night against the DBacks in Arizona and while things did not turn out like a fairly tale story, they could have been a lot worse. He pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 6 hits. He struck out 6 and walked 1. Now I was a little disappointed that he was pulled in the bottom of the 5th inning with 1 out and a base runner on 1st. But he threw a lot of pitches to that point (somewhere in the mid 80s) in his 4 1/3 innings as I was really leery of throwing anything in the middle of the strike zone because earlier in the game, 1 of the earned runs he gave up was because he threw a changeup that did not break at Paul Goldschmidt who proceeded to clobber it out of the stadium for a solo "Welcome to the Show" HR.

Anyway, on to why manual saves are needed in our RTTS careers. In the days following this pitcher's MLB debut, he was called into the manager's office where they said they were going to move him into a long relief role instead of being a starter. Now this makes sense from a baseball point of view. A young pitcher who is still developing his skills would likely be asked to be a long relief pitcher. But of course this is not the desired role I would like to play with my RTTS games. Luckily for me, this position swap also occurred on a day that I was doing some off field training and since I did not like the training options I was given, I exited the game without saving and when I returned again not only did I get some better training options, but the request to swap to being a long relief pitcher out of the bullpen never surfaced a 2nd time. So for at least one more start, my Braves RTTS pitcher is still scheduled to play his next game as a starter. He better do better than his 3 earned runs in 4 1/3 innings though. I am happy he struck out 6, but I need to figure out how to stay competitive against the MLB opposition without throwing as many pitches as I did.

My Braves team is HOT in the month of June. Stretched division lead to 4.5 games over the NATS. Last night had Moncada try to run on me in the top of the 9th with 2 outs to tie the game. It didn't work out to well for him.

LOL. I haven't done that yet. Did you quick record before the play or were you already recording game? Another one that I keep narrowly missing is when I've had to make a diving stop in the gap, the runner hesitated to see if I was going to make catch, and I have had the opportunity to throw him out on the force at 2nd but have been just late realizing it.

pretty sure ps4 always records so all you have to do is pause it, go to recorded video and grab what you need. It works like a preroll so basically if something cool happens and you want to save the replay it's there for you right away and if you don't you can just continue playing and it will be overwritten.

Forgot all about that feature.....I've been going into the replay but being able to grab the "live" version of a highlight is much better.

This is what I did, then just used the trim feature (which I think you just have to download an app?) to cut it right down to where I want it to be

Good stuff....have to remember going forward as I love capturing different highlights/moments. I try to put together an offensive and defensive highlight reel every season.

Played first year in AA/AAA start of year 2 I get called up to Blue Jays. I play a full year .279/28HR/81RBI. They offer me a 1 year rookie deal, I accept. Year 3 .291/31HR/97RBI I win silver slugger, they offer me a 2 year deal with a club option. Year 4 .250/27HR/76RBI (I play on dynamic difficulty so it’s getting tougher.) They decline my club option and let me become a free agent. One of the better players on a struggling franchise I’m 82OVR. Confused I go to free agent market. The Astros offer me a 5 year deal but I just wanted a 1 year deal, I sign and they have Altuve but they plugged me in at DH. I had a good year .301/25HR/89RBI. We win the World Series. 87OVR. They don’t even offer me a contract? I simmed all the way to spring training nothing. I declined all the other clubs because I liked where I was. I saved just to see what would happen. It makes you try out for a club of your choosing and you get a significantly lower salary. I have all this time invested in this series and I’m quite angry about this contract crap. With those #s who wouldn’t keep that player around? Anyone else having these issues? Also I tried the go back to college, lower difficulty. I always get drafted 26th rd by Toronto or Baltimore.

For those of you who accept position changes after first month of the season, if you change archetypes your caps will revert back to when you started so for first month i would just raise attributes until you see if a position change happens. I tested it a few times and e erytime i raised caps they were lowered when archetype was changed
