Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
I did exactly that. I created a defensive whiz 2nd baseman, drafted by the Blue Jays and moved to SS. When the move was made permanent, I changed to the good hands archetype which allows for more power. I guess I could have gone for Bat First or Power Corner but I thought that might be overdoing it and might make fielding a nightmare.

75Contact & Power would be boosted to early to mid 80's with average equipment and I would be a Speedy over 100 rating in all Defence categories. That would make me a perenial Gold Glover fielding highlight reel play look like routine ground ball.Comment

I have been using Ichiro‘s as well but I‘ve switched to Griffey Jr.‘s for all my characters as of late because I seem to have the most success with it contact and especially power wise. My RF power guy hit 45 HRs in AAA until Allstar game. He‘s in AAA now and two series in he hit 5 HRs (3 in one game).Comment

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
Anyone else having a hard time leveling up baserunning/stealing stat? Very hard to grow stat in game. Not many opportunities to increase stat, easy to mess up, and messing up is very damaging (two or three negative stat indicators).
Should provide more opportunities to grow stat, like when tagging up etc. also make stealing slightly easier

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
I've meant to ask this before, but what batting stance is everyone using?
I've always used Ichiro's in the past because I normally started out as a speedster. I did fine with it for a while this year but felt like I lost my power at some point. Just switched to Kris Bryant, and although I'm only 2 games in so far I'm liking it.
I remember reading a post (either here or on the show reddit) about last years game talking about how different stances can have different types of spin on the ball (top spin, balanced, backspin) and even listed particular stances. I would also think this would be true for pulling/pushing the ball (I seemed to push all the time with Ichiro's stance, even when I wasn't late on the ball), otherwise defensive shifts would be pretty useless against human opponents because they would pull/push based on their own personal tendencies on not based off of what player they have up to bat.
If anyone knows what I am talking about and can find the post please link it.Comment

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
Info probably doesn't apply to your particular problem.... but what is your closer rated out at? Also.... what is your 2 setup men (LHP, RHP) graded out at. I've started analyzing the box scores after each game, win or lose. On some of the games where we lost in the late innings I noticed it was in situations where my right handed pitcher was setting up for the closer. It's Steve Cishek and he's well up in the years and ratings have dipped way down. I also noticed that on the occasions where the closer would blow the save he was facing hitters that hit his hand well. Not always the case....as sometimes they just blow it.... but most of the time some of the comebacks/blown saves followed some baseball logic at least. I've also seen situations where I have 1 or 2 particular LRP and MRP's that seem to be the culprit every single time. To the point of me checking who was being brought in during middle innings. I've been fortunate with this though as I'm in 2022 season with Braves and pitching has always been above average or better in majority of seasons. I can tell ya this... when I've got to the end of seasons and simmed my upgrades and new player additions I've also made sure I had quality pitching. It wins out more than having a lineup chalked full of hitters.
Our closer is at 84 and has a Clutch rating of 79. I just checked and he has 14 blown saves out of 32 opportunities.

I’m a Ball Hawk 2B, and playing on Veteran batting with 65 Power, no adjusted sliders, still nets me 25-30 HRs a year. Must say, I’m pleasantly surprised.

The Base Running Aggression attribute is mucked up. We get penalized if we get caught being aggressive on the base (as we should) but we never get credit when we take chances and succeed with our chances. The only time the Base Running Aggression attribute rises is when we pull off a successful steal. But also keep in mind that the higher our attributes get, the longer it takes to level them up. Example: my 2B RTTS character's Fielding attribute is at 82 (85 is his max cap) and it will take about 1 to 2 months worth of games (possibly longer) just to get to be an 83. So just keep that in mind if your player(s) already has a high Stealing attribute value. But don't expect the Base Running Aggression issue or any other RTTS issues to be fixed this year.Comment
