I finished school as well and had a potential of F at 22 yrs old. Was batting .400 with 10 HRs and 49 RBIs midway through June in AA in my first season. Potential jumped to a D and Overall rating went from a 62 to now a 72 and got the call to the Tampa Rays and now DJ Williams is the starting 2B
Hopefully not much longer for yourself!

First baseball game I have played in years and am really loving it. My flamethrower SP was drafted by the Braves. They are my favorite team so I got lucky. Got called up after a year and half and the stupid AI has gutted the team. Traded Freeman, Albies and Acuna for crap. Elvis Andrus is the starting SS and Swanson is riding the pine. Still having fun though.

Thanks for the info! A trade to a team that needs a CF would help too.

Potential hasn't mooved a single time for my player... I didn't knew it could... I'll look forward to it!

My guy is a 19yrs (almost the end of 2nd season) with the A's. 80 Ov, "C" potential from the beggining. I have the same player(previous save/same difficulty), with the Jays, end of second year and still in AAA with mid 70's rating.

The best way to develop quick is being with the A's for me. They jumped me from AA to MLB in my 1st year and OV exploded since then. The only drawback is that my team allows 6 run in the 6-7th inning once every 2-3 games which is frustrating. But hey, with Olson, Chapman, Piscotty and our young pitchers, there's hope for next year...

I have pretty much given up on my Closer as grinding away is not what I call fun. Got traded to Red Sox and with Kimbal there I am stuck in reliever grind hell.
Got a Starter that is fun at the moment, will be interested to see how it get messed up as that is the expectation now

I've been having difficulty increasing attributes further with training-around 60 plus attributes. it makes me think after that you simply need to increase to the max cap on the field.

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread

Having a blast with this game, as it's my first ever experience with "The Show" franchise.

I created a "Bat First" 3B. Was drafted by the San Diego Padres, which chapped my ***, since I was born a Royals fan. So, now I'm a teammate of Hosmer. Lol.

Anyway, played one full season in AA and did rather well. Made the All-Star team as a starter. Won the batting crown. Just narrowly missed out in the other two Triple Crown categories. Generally was the best offensive player in the league with the bat.

Promoted to the majors out of Spring Training for my second season. Came off the bench primarily as a pinch hitter all year. Got the very occasional spot start here and there. Did pretty well by hitting in the .330's.

Became the Padres starting 3B at the beginning of my 3rd season. Started off ok. My defense at the hot corner was woeful, but came around to adequate by mid-season. Still make an occasional mistake that I shouldn't, but improving. My baserunning is decent. Stealing is horrible. Bunting is virtually non-existent.

Went thru a pro-longed slump during May-June. Dropped into the .240's without much pop. Kept waiting for the hammer to fall from the manager.

But, they stuck with me. I ended up finishing at .274 with 33 HR's and 108 RBI's. Got pretty hot in July and August. Kinda cooled the last 2 weeks of the season, which cost me the MVP and Silver Slugger. Oh well. I'm still young.

We just finished in 4th place, after being in the absolute cellar during my initial ML campaign. The team has picked up 34 yr. old Corey Kluber to anchor the rotation. My lineup is fairly solid, but the pitching staff is pretty bad. We'll see what he has left in the tank.

Going to focus more on Contact, Stealing, and possibly even Bunting this season to become a more well-rounded player.

Oh yea, I'm playing on Dynamic difficulty with all default sliders. I've worked my way up to All-Star level on hitting, but can't quite crest over into Hall of Fame yet. It's tough.

The only thing I MIGHT adjust at some point is Injury Frequency, as I've only actually seen 1 during gameplay. It happened to my player, but he didn't go on the Disabled List. Just missed 1 game and was lucky enough to occur in Spring Training. I do see other players end up on the list, so maybe I should avoid temptation. Lol.

Anyway, just joined the board and thought I would share.

I think it's a GREAT game. My brother and I are both completely hooked.

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread

First AA season of RTTS complete! A few points before I get to the numbers:

                    - Legend difficulty, via Dynamic difficulty at the Legend level with the progression slider zeroed - which is where I plan to leave it for the entire career. The only changes made to the gameplay throughout this season have been through patches - I did not change a single gameplay setting or slider after I started. I turned fielder run speed down 2 clicks at the beginning and never looked back.

                    - I had a lot of at-bats for a minor league season. This is because the CPU only carried two players on the bench throughout the year - and a second LF wasn't one of them.

Here's the end of season numbers:

Those walks are why I love hitting on Legend - the CPU WILL walk you if you're patient.

And my rankings in the hitting categories:

                    BA - 1st
                    Hits - 1st
                    2B - 4th
                    3B - 2nd
                    HR - 19th
                    RBI - 3rd
                    R - 1st
                    SB - 14th
                    BB - 20th
                    OBP - 1st
                    SLG - 2nd
                    OPS - 1st

Realistic? Well, probably not if you look strictly at numbers, but nobody in AA gets the sort of progression curve like what you're about to see below. I'm above the vast majority of talent in AA at this point so maybe putting up those kind of numbers isn't that crazy. The league leaders in the other two leagues had similar averages btw - one of them had a .347 to lead all of AA. You could also say I might actually be playing below my ratings since my equipment shows that I should be a 76 (and my adjusted OVR was 70).

One more screen because I like this as a cross-section of my hitting ability:

Year end ratings/caps (Mr. Reliable archetype):

                    Contact vs R 62 (+22) 64 Cap
                    Contact vs L 52 (+12) 65 Cap
                    Power vs R 42 (+17) 49 Cap
                    Power vs L 32 (+7) 49 Cap
Bunting 55 (0) At Max Cap
                    Drag Bunting 35 (0) 55 Cap
                    Plate Vision 55 (+5) 65 Cap
                    Plate Discipline 51 (+21) 57 Cap
                    Clutch 45 (+10) 62 Cap
                    Fielding 65 (+15) 65 Cap
                    Reaction 61 (+16) 61 Cap
                    Arm Strength 75 (0) 91 Cap
                    Arm Accuracy 68 (+8) 77 Cap
                    Speed 61 (+1) 70 Cap
                    Stealing 60 (+10) 65 Cap
                    BR Aggressiveness 63 (+8) 70 Cap
                    Durability 70 (+15) 70 Cap

I was on a team that completely dominated the rest of their division on route to the postseason. I played through the first round so far and we swept, but they needed a little help for game 2. I delivered the first of what I hope to be many dramatic moments in this career:

For those discussing player potential, I'm not sure it can get over a C.

I started out as a C, and even after an MVP triple crown season it is still at a C. Team is batting me 6th the next season despite the triple crown and being the 2nd highest rated player on the team (highest if you count equipment boost).

Overall I am still enjoying the mode, but I've read some people having issues with teams straight up not trying to resign their player and minimal interest from teams in FA, despite their player being great with a great ovr, all because of this C potential.

I'm considering either starting a guy in 17 and just importing him over to have the A potential and just deal with the outdated rosters, or creating the guy on a roster and doing franchise mode with player lock on. Only problem is idk how I would deal with progression.

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread

Has anyone else been having issues with ShowTime while hitting? 6 games in a row now, if I do not have “good” timing my player will only foul tip the ball. If I do have “good” timing he will just whiff. Contact is 72 RHP/64 LHP, plate vision is 58. I’ve never experienced an issue like this before.

Also, since The Show refuses to provide a comprehensive tutorial on ShowTime, can someone please explain the timing for hitting in detail? What I mean is, when the points on the outer ring meet the slots on the inner ring around the baseball, does that “perfect timing” take into consideration pitch location at all? Example: perfect timing for an inside pitch would be earlier than perfect timing for an outside pitch. Or is it “perfect timing” simply meaning that your bat will be parallel with the plate when you make contact regardless of where the pitch is? Basically, if the pitch is inside, do I still need to wait for the points to meet at the baseball, or do I need to swing earlier because waiting until that point would result in a late swing, thus being jammed? I have never been able to figure this out.

Regardless of my confusion over that, I still have not had the issue I’ve been experiencing the last 6 games. I was always able to hit effectively with ShowTime even though I didn’t have a complete understanding of the timing. Any help would be appreciated.

I assume you use directional based on your description? I'm not really sure about that since I use zone, but I have had issues hitting with showtime a lot this entire iteration of the show. Last year I had no problems, could line it up perfectly fine and all of that. But this year I use showtime, think I am squaring it up perfectly, then foul tip it. It's been incredibly frustrating

You simply get a bar in place of attribute increase showing stat can't be increased, sometimes that will happen with all attributes if you are training multiple attributes.

I've also noticed attribute increases are always 1 less than displayed on training page-not sure if that is bug or game design.

If I'm understanding this correctly, I think this is just one way it slows you down. Basically, if you choose to increase that attribute, it will do so to a small extent (you'll even see a little prompt saying "attribute increased") . More importantly, the next time you will see that you will be able to increase it more significantly. I think this happens with all attributes past a certain point.
