Is it true you can no longer play a single season unless you want to spend 5 times as many hours in Franchise Mode? You used to be able to play an abbreviated season right? I don't want to play a 162 game season. Am I missing something? Sorry if addressed before.

There is no season mode in MLB The Show '18.

And franchise mode cannot be shortened to anything less than 162 games.

I know its been asked about a lot in regards to RTTS, but can players potentials rise or fall in franchise mode or are they locked in without the use of the edit player option? I have some AA players tearing it up yet have not risen from D or C potentials. Thanks in advance!

Yes, a player's potential can rise or fall. Sometimes performance can trigger it, but many times it won't.

I've seen players tear it up every single year of their career from draft to today and their potential hasn't budged.

I've seen players struggle most of their career, and then one good season brings their potential up.

There is a random element to it.

Franchise question here, I tried searching the thread, but the Tapatalk search feature is terrible, so I apologize if this was already answered:

What are the differences between RNW on the contract screen, and ARB? I understand them as Renewal and Arbitration, respectively, but as someone who doesn't know a qhole lot about baseball or how MLB contracts work, what do they mean?

Renewable contracts can be renewed straight up without any need for negotiation. The team has all the power. The team can choose to give them a raise of they want, or can renew as low as 20% (I think) below the previous seasons. (I think) in order to qualify for renewal, an offer must be made on the player. However the offer can just be for the renewal amount. If the player does not accept the offer, the team still "owns" the player, and can choose to unilaterally renew the contract during the renewal phase near the end of the off-season. Renewal contracts can only be for 1 year, so if you want more years you need to negotiate with the player.

Arbitration eligible players have the power to negotiate. Near the beginning of the off season, the team makes an offer for what they think the player is worth, and the player makes a counter offer. Once this is done, negotions can begin between the team and the player. The player is still owned by the team, and cannot negotiate with any other team. If no contract agreement is made by the arbitration date (different players have different dates, but it is all near the end of the off season) then a third party arbiter chooses which of the two initial offers is more fair. The team can then choose to pay the arbitration price, or the player becomes a free agent. Arbitration contracts can only be for one year, but any negotiated contacts can be for multiple years.

Is there a way to override a trade if the cpu says there is budget restraints with the trade?
Also if not can I turn off budget after I started a franchise?

Unless there is a backdoor way of doing it that I haven’t heard of; no and no.

To add to this, though it might not be anything, and just an illusion, it feels like at most, you can have one or two players go up and one or two go down in potential in a given month (two total pitchers and two total hitters), but it will only raise a point or two in potential.

As potential is shown as a grade rather than a number, it's possible you won't see a player raise, even though in actuality, they are slowly progressing in their maximum achievable potential.

And yeah, it seems to be pretty much random which high/low performers get the buff/nerf. I first thought it was the best player and worst player or something, but I saw a player with a meh month (but not a bad one) get nerfed, and a player with an ok (but not excellent) one get a buff.

Re: The Show 18 Q&A Thread.

I've had this issue online a bit recently, looking for a way to avoid it:

When I want to pinch hit for my pitcher, I can't elect to do this until he's at bat. That's usually fine, but sometimes you're playing online against a guy who starts his pitch IMMEDIATELY when a guy steps up to the plate, and you don't even have time to get into substitutions from the quick menu before the first pitch is away. Basically, I try to just tap the up arrow repeatedly as my pitcher is coming to the plate, but that still sometimes doesn't work, and he's able to essentially steal a pitch from me.

How can I prevent this from happening? I feel like they need to add a 2-3 second dead spot in online play between pitches because sometimes guys just get in their rhythm and I can't even manage the game.

We can sign renewables at 80% of their previous year's salary. How do we see what that previous salary was?

It's possible with some players but not most free agents, I think.

I'm fairly certain the only players you can sign to minor league contracts are players who have never played for a major league team. Once they've been called up at any point, you have to sign them to regular contracts.

Occasionally you'll find FA minor leaguers, but it's rare. Even more rare to find good ones. But I've found that the game automatically releases draft picks of a team goes into the offseason with more than 95 players (previous year's roster + draft picks - retirees). So if a team drafted a good player late and has a full roster, that player could end up a FA in the offseason.

I just got a ps4 for my nephew and Mlb 18 is the first game he got.
When I upload the disk and it copy’s. Then when the game starts up; we can’t get out of learning mode. It just keeps on staying there. There is no quit button.

How do we get to the home screen and actually start using the game?

                            Thanks for the help.

Hold down the PS button on the controller (the one with the Playstation logo in-between the two analog sticks). Select Close Application from the menu that pops up. Then start the game again. If it's ready, you'll have access to the full game. If not, there should be some kind of "Installing" progress indicator.
