Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions

Finally, I got a chance to play MLB the Show 18 (tortured myself all week lol).

    My first impressions:

    1. Epic introduction - Much better than last year's and that one was pretty epic too.

    2. My first game with the Angels was insane. First hit was a lead-off HR with Ian Kinsler and by the 4th inning we were kicking *** (8-0) and then the A's came back, so it was 8-4. Then that mofo Mike Trout hit 2 HRs (One being a grand slam), so not only did I crush the A's, I got 30% of MLB the Show 18 trophies in one game lol. I got the Souvenir City one, Grand Slam, Get 10 hits with one team in a single game and some other Gold ones in the same game. The final score was 14-7 (Angels). This is the 2nd year in the row hitting a lead-off with my first batter (last year was Josh Donaldson).

    3. I do not like the menus. The appearance and presentation of them are ugly. Takes 8 years to see the game log and box score.

    4. The most beautiful baseball game I have ever seen. The graphics have really improved in all areas. I have a 43" LG Ultra 4K HDTV (say that 5 times lol) and it looks amazing on it.

    5. I do not know what the yellow PCI circle does, but it's interesting.

    6. I finally like the other themes! MLB Network is kinda meh, but Theme 2 is pretty nice.

    7. The new HR animations are awesome. I hit a HR with Cozart and I am like, whoa, Nelly! WTF! It was cool.

I have all weekend to play this game and I only had a chance to play 2 games (Angels, Diamondbacks), so these are my impressions so far. It does feel like 17, but 17 is incredible, so I don't care. I'm going to play this game all year and try to do a 4 season franchise with the Nationals.

    Awesome game!

That's the only way to play.

I want to leave on the pitch types, though... at least for me as a pitcher. If they could allow us to remove it for the opposition or get rid of that R2 button to display the CPU's pitches, I would very much appreciate that.

Only way I play too. I want it to look as much like a tv broadcast as possible I even hit from the broadcast view.

One thing I’ve wanted for years is the ability to turn off the player indicators as well and also a simpler throwing meter that looks way less video gamey and big. I always turn all that crap off in other sports games.

So hitting is frustrating to me, at least the feedback portion.

I don't understand how I can put the PCI in the upper right quadrant, the ball is pitched to the bottom left and I put the ball in play. Perhaps upping the difficulty to reduce the PCI would help, but then I'd increase contact because of the higher level and we are in square 1 again. I just feel I NEVER swing and miss in a ball near the zone, I have to be too early or too late but never where the PCI isn't close.

oh that's a easy one. a walkoff homer is where you walkoff the field instead of run. in fact it doesn't even have to be a homer. last night I struckout looking with the bases loaded & lost 3-0. I was so devastated I didn't feel like running back to the dugout. I walkedoff. -

From the way I understand it, the PCI on the feedback isnt 100%. Its basically a rough guide.

Was lukewarm the first few hours, gave a serious “new coat of paint” vibe for a while. Now I’m a good 10 or 15 hours deep; finally starting to get into doing stuff like edit equipment, get my guys’ stances & deliveries in order, sliders are on point; things are really coming together. It’s just SO good. The more I play the more I fall in love. Extremely pleased. Can’t wait for OSFM to drop, I’m gonna be playing 1-2 hours a day for months.

Me too, great assumption though. I'm talking about checking the runners lead with the L1 button. Obviously if you look over late though you want see that extra step being taken.

I am in total agreement with that assessment. This isn't initially an impressive game outside of the graphics but once you get into the game play you notice the little things.

Hmm, for me pressing L1 makes me step off the mound, not look over.

Well, I'm concerned now. I don't know what the look-over button is. I think I've tried shoulder buttons the past several years and never figured it out. I know the pick-off combination, but I don't know which button gets me to preview the runner's lead.
