They finally have Griffey Jr.'s no doubt HR in the game and it is as spectacular as you can imagine.

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
So I played some franchise and some RTTS last night for about 3 hours and I'm starting to feel the same "boredom" and "staleness" feeling I had last year when I shelved '17. While the game looks good and the gameplay is solid, it just doesn't do it for me anymore.
I really had no desire to continue in RTTS last night and without actual franchise mode improvements, I regret my purchase..once again. I honestly should have just waited this year. Atleast waited for a sale or maybe skipped alltogether.
And I love baseball. I love OOTP and feel fully immersed in that so I'm not sure what the issue is I have with The Show.
Just being honest with my opinion and impressions.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
Is this the beginning of the end for franchise, 'down the road' as it doesn't make them enough money? Minimal improvements to franchise, rocket bunts still in franchise, the rotating schedules not fixed all show that franchise is at the bottom of the barrell. How long until it doesn't exist either like season play?Comment

From TOS:
Constructive Criticism
We allow all opinions on Operation Sports. But if you want to be negative, it needs to be constructive. Bashing a game developer is not constructive at all, for any reason. Bashing a game period is not constructive. Whining/complaining/acting like a middle schooler is not constructive. If you want to be constructive, say what is wrong with the game specifically. Any negativity that is not constructive will not be tolerated.Joshua:

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
Love what they've done this year! The game looks great. They even did some work on the Oakland A's stadium. They added the Rickey Henderson Field logo to the wall and to the field. However, for some reason they put a pretty awful screen behind the plate. It looks like something from the PS2 era. Other than that and no season mode, (what is up with that?) I am pleased..... so far.
Don't forget the the addition of the Holy Toledo sign in right center. Too bad it doesn't light up. Now remove the tarps!

MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
I’ve always wondered why they have not created an option to square up delay/lag. The example I’m thinking of is Rock Band; when you can strum while watching a meter scroll back and forth. Wouldn’t be as important to sync audio, as in RB (obviously), but could be really helpful for timing (hitting/pitching). I don’t play online, but could also see the potential there. Setting it up before a game for 15-20 seconds I could see being worthwhile. And offline, should only need to be done if changing tv set, since input lag is tv/monitor specific. Programmatically, I would think this would be very straightforward.
Just my $.02. Haven’t played this year yet. I play franchise and RTTS mainly, but really shocked, as others, about season mode being removed, especially with no mention by SDS.
I’ve always wondered why development teams/studios do not patch in something like a mode mid-cycle if demand is there for it. I personally like the yearly release cycle, but in the same vain, I think more can done within same year to please your consumer.
With that being said, SDS has always done a phenomenal job, and put out a great product. The focus shift towards DD does worry me though. Balance is the key.

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
- If you just enjoy the presentation, MLB authenticity, and the gameplay then the game is great.
- But if you want a deep franchise / team manager experience and be fully immersed in team re-building, then you might want to skip this one.
I don't want to deter someone else from buying or enjoying the game.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
This is easily the best hitting we've seen in The Show. The way you can pull a ball down the line and have it slice, yet stay fair just wasn't possible last year. Almost everything pulled like that in 17 was foul. Going up the middle or the other way feels so much better too. For the most part, the ball feels like it's going where it should...and it looks and feels so smooth.
It does seem easier so far, and sliders will definitely perfect it, but the hit variety in general is just breathtaking.
Agreed! Hopefully they change nothing about it in upcoming patches.

I mean I guess it depends on what you're looking for.

I think this assessment is really fair. Well said.

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
Gameplay seems far smoother than last year, but the lettering and numbers on the back of the Cubs current home jersey looks weird. And if he font is wrong on the back of the '82 home jerseys.
But the '82 road jerseys look great, so much that it feels weird hearing Matt Vasgersian instead of a soused Harry Caray.
