the fielders hesitating before throwing the ball is terrible and they also drop a lot of balls. The hitting is ok except it really seems like it's nothing but grounders and pop ups

Uniform colors and detail are amazing this year. Finally colored uniforms pop like they should. Also, the detail/shine in the twill looks awesome too

Enjoying the game so far the only issue I have come across is when playing at Target field with runners on there are framerate issues when the pitcher throws his pitch I'm playing on a 1080p tv with PS4 pro on fast mode.

I agree with you 100 percent but I am not giving up on pure analog yet , I have a slider set that is showing a lot of promise but still needs more testing . I really wish they would make it harder to throw strikes with it though!! So far I am giving up some walks but not sure if it will turn out to be enough yet .

This may be a minute thing to some, but I absolutely love that in create a player this year, they have tied hair, facial hair, and eyebrow colors together. So when I change the hair color of a player, his facial hair and eyebrow color change as well. Then I can adjust those accordingly if I choose.

Nothing more frustrating than trying to match colors without some sort of numerical sequence last year.

            Thank you SDS!

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions

I don't think I've ever posted here, but I read this forum religiously every year when the Show is coming out.

I'm pretty exclusively a Franchise guy, so I was a bit disappointed by the lack of upgrades there, but now that I've played a few games, I have to say that this edition looks and feels way beyond any previous version. The colours look way sharper, the presentation is snappier and more dynamic, and the weight and spin of the ball on hits feels way more authentic out of the box. It's also the smoothest PS4 version I've ever played, and I'm on an old school PS4 with a 1080P TV.

Love the new menus and the presentation overlays too.

The Show definitely has a distinct look and feel, but this feels like a different game when you actually play it. It's a video game, so it'll never be perfect, but the game is fantastic this year. Love it!

A lot of impressions are hard to respond to. If someone says they are having problems hitting homeruns, OR, they say they are hitting too many homeruns, wish they'd post the settings/sliders they are using, as no one can really respond with a possible solution, or really understand, unless they know.

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions

Playing on a regular PS4 and 12(?) year old 1080p plasma TV... this game still looks great! The colors look better -- Pirates black jerseys are black yay! -- and the frame rate is solid. Sure, it's not quite that special kind of feeling 60fps gives you, and I can see where HDR could really help bring out details/shadows/etc, but I am not disappointed. As someone said earlier, upping brightness helped "sharpen" things up a little.

Played a few RTTS games then did the daily roster opening day game PIT @ DET. Starting over with dynamic difficulty (can't this carry over?) skewed results for sure, but I saw some very promising stuff. Hit a flare to LF that died just in front of the diving Mahtook then kicked away from under him. Blooped one over Iglesias, who was running toward the CF (who stopped in his tracks to avoid collision!) only to have drop into no man's land for a two-out two-run bases loaded double; very cool sequence.

Overall, echoing many others, ball off the bat "feels" good and believeable. Fielding on default sliders plays out well enough I don't think I'll be nerfing speed/reaction. Pitching was too easy working up from rookie, so I can't say much about it. And I also had to bump pitch speed up, might even go higher, although I think difficultly also plays a part?

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions

I can't quite put my finger on what it is about 18, but it feels fresher, less janky, and closer to a "AAA" title than the last few editions. I wasn't expecting it to feel this fresh—as The Show hasn't given me that feeling from release to release in years. I always enjoy the quality of life improvements, but so far the game feels like more of an upgrade in quality than I expected.

Also, I absolutely love the changes to RttS. I was never a big fan of acquiring and assigning training points, and your player's trajectory being more or less always a 99ovr stud. Upgrading skill directly through on-field performance feels much more satisfying and immersive.

Moved up from All Star zone me to HoF zone. Still crushed the ball and scored over ten runs. I thought the ball speed was just a hair faster. I’ll be moving to legend next and increasing ball speed if needed.

Yeah this is my biggest bugaboo with the game right now is that hitting seems too easy since the ball seems to float in.

I'm on HoF and I've increased pitch speed but still tough to get beat on a pitch. I don't want to adjust any other sliders.

I may go to legend and see what happens.

I’m the same way, I hate fudging with sliders. In 6 games I’ve score over ten runs 4 times and have over 20 hits 2 or 3 times. Almost lead the league in walks. Even on my HoF game I went over ten runs and had like 17 hits. Only struck out 13 times. It’s way too easy right now.

I love how meaningful it is now to have good defensive players. I feel like having a great SS actually feels like an advantage now. Jose Iglesias is making plays in the game I'm playing right now while everyone else on my team is stumbling. The gap between great and average defensively is appropriately wide in this game.

I know you say you hate fudging with them, but there are sliders I would recommend you to change and give a go. You can lower Solid Hits, raise Foul Frequency, and lower Timing (if you're not striking out enough). Too many walks? Raise CPU Consistency (not for less balls thrown, but thrown closer around the plate. Too many fat pitches? Raise CPU Control (they'll bite those corners more, and those "on the black" strikes by raising this will mesh well with those "off the black" balls if both of these are raised).

I'll admit that I currently am getting a good influx of hits; nothing like what you are getting right now, but more than I'm normally used to. I'm going to play about five more games before I try a tinker here and there. The only reason I don't like messing with sliders is because I generally feel like if I have too good or too bad of a game I may chalk it up to "my settings being too easy," and I'd just continue tinkering. I'm getting a lot better at the "set it and forget it" kind of thing now, though.

The only reason I'm making these suggestions is because I fear what the developers will do if they change anything in a patch. I have a theory though that the new air drag coefficient isn't just affecting the ball in play, but also pitched balls... so the ball is slowing up to the plate more than it used to, which may be why they are floating in for us now. I'm sure they probably didn't touch the exit velocity of the throws themselves, though.

played two full games yesterday. one game I play was the diamond dynasty and wow I think I def will play this mode a little more. I like how they talk about the card that you have like if its a rookie version they mention that. I didn't know they did that. then I play a full game between yankees and Red Sox. it went 16 innings. I love how the gameplay its very fluid I love how the commentary has no dead spots. everything seems on point. I like how they talk about how long my game went. the gameplay seems very fluid I didn't have any issues doing manual fielding usually I get so upset I always did auto fielding. but this year I am doing manual fielding.
