By that logic “Backyard Baseball” and “MLB 18 The Show” are the same. Love “The Show” but it’s becoming like Madden where after a few weeks I feel like I should have just updated rosters. You can’t tell me this game has enough improvements to wow you.

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
For me there is a lot to like about this year's game. Sure there isn't that big flashy new feature/addition that screams, "LOOK AT ME!!!"(I guess Batting Stance Creator??), but there is enough under the hood type fixes that make this game stand apart from any of its predecessors.
It may not be enough for you and others, but for myself and others, it is.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Can I tell you this game has enough improvements to wow me? Because I keep finding myself saying, "Wow!" like I'm Owen Wilson...METS. NY FOOTBALL GIANTS. PENGUINS. HURRICANE FOOTBALL. LEBRON.

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
The next big thing for me is the increased hit variety and improved air friction. Both of these things are always on the top of my list when it comes to a baseball game, and both have been wonky for a long time. I can actually get fisted and it can now fall in for a hit. This game has never allowed that before. Too many fair balls down the line right now, but I'll take the trade-off for now. There is still much more the developers have to do with positioning of the defense (more so the outfield than the infield).
Finally, I'm playing a Braves franchise, so the SunTrust Park updates are massive for me. And all of this was obtained myself for the low price of seven dollars and change.
Am I wowed? Meh, I think we as gamers are too spoiled to be wowed these days. Even Uncharted 4 didn't wow me visually (probably because no 60 FPS). I mean it was impressive, but I didn't go numb over the experience or anything. This game warranted a purchase, though. And I don't touch DD, RttS, Conquest Mode, or Shohei Ohtani.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

It has enough updates for me to put down '17, specifically regarding overall responsiveness. The game registers your input commands much faster. Plus, the PCI moves after contact.

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
I can definitely see why guys might say “same ol’ thing,” but I really do think they finally nailed hitting. It’s like “this is how it was supposed to be all along” kind of good. That plus the coat of paint in terms of graphics, colors and lighting have me pretty happy.
One thing I will complain about though: feel like I was sold a bill of goods on the dynamic attendance stuff. While distribution is much better, there’s still way too many people at most games imo. Those cold-weather April games on a Monday or Wednesday at DET or CWS should be damn-near empty. 35-45% capacity would look great. Meanwhile I’m seeing 80 and 85% capacity and it just looks and feels ridiculous. Weekends, fine, but come on. This feature was one of the only thing franchise players got and it seems half-baked.

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
After going back and forth so many times I did eventually pull the plug on buying (getting the game for over 50% discount also helped). I am glad I did as I feel like hitting is the best its been for me personally as I did NOT like how it felt last year even after all the patches. Blzer points on hitting are how I feel and seeing ball die in the outfield look more realistic this year.

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
Depends on what you mean by that. If a batter swings and misses on a low pitch, it will happen... no matter which video game or real life game you play.
Are you asking if the CPU swings and misses at a lot of pitches in the dirt? Are you asking if the batter-runner successfully reaches far too often? Are you asking if there should just be more tags by the catcher in those situations instead of actually making a throw?
Just so you know, I won't have a good answer for you on any of those (except the last one, this game rarely just has an "automatic tag" scenario because the batter-runner always goes).Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Now this year I'll be shocked if they draw 2 million. They are going to take a HUGE revenue hit from the decreased ticket sales, lack of parking fees, concession revenue, and far fewer merchandise sales. The dark side of rebuilding that people don't talk about when they wax poetic about the Astros and Sixers.Comment
