MLB The Show 18 First Impressions

Since getting game Thursday 9pm I have played only 3 exhibitions full games. These are my impressions so far I will edit this as I go along but these are the things I like about the game so far. I’m playing on the Pro with Sony x900e 50 inch. It looks spectacular on HDR (sharper).

    1) Ball Physics (reminds me Japanese video game PYS)

    2) Graphics to stadiums, uniforms, colors are phenomenal.

    3) Gameplay feels organic all 5 baseball tools feel great.

    4) Player models new scans look breathtaking for example (Trout, Judge and even a player such as Blue Jays Teoscar Hernandez looks perfect).

    Things I dislike:

    1) Taking Season mode out is completely unacceptable.

    2) Some rookies that debuted last year didn’t get scan and are editable players.

    3) Shohei Ohtani being included as a pitcher and having outfield secondary position and having to take out a player on days he doesn’t pitch is ridiculous. When u select a pitcher other than him he should be available to be use in any position DH or outfield from lineup screen.

I love the momentum fielders have, well outfielders for sure, one wrong step on a fly ball in the gap and you can forget about it.

        I have two questions guys

Will OSFM rosters fix player salaries in order to reflect real life ones

and why when I start a franchise with the Red Sox their manager is not Alex Cora but some random dude and if that will ever change?

I have to say after a whole weekend playing i really love the game.

There is no big bug like we had last year early and it is super stable.

I really like hitting playing in all star and hof and the games runs very smoothly.

For me it is a huge improvement on gameplay regarding hitting the feedback now matchs the result. When you get good/good you usually have a good hit.

I did not have much fun playing 17 especially offline l, I really love and enjoy the nes opus

          So good job sd

Well, how ‘bout that? Normally I turn off the commentary, but playing a spring training game today, I turned it on......gasp.....it’s actually quite good.

Also was hoping for a different result, but the CPU has bunted 3 times on me, all rockets down the first base line. Obvious easy force at 2nd, possible double play, but I’m just going to have to take the out at first.

Loving the game so far, wondering why they made simple graphic changes though, that seem to be a step backwards.

                For example:

On MLB the Show 15 Milwaukee Brewers, Miller Park. Pitching you see the M on the mound, you also see the M behind home plate and it's clear, crisp.

MLB the Show 18 same team, same stadium and the M behind the mound and behind the plate is very pixelated. It looks like it has poor resolution.

                Why the step backwards?

I’m looking at it right now. I don’t see what you are seeing.

How is the base stealing this year?, not on balls that bounce away from catchers but just straight steals, is it like last year or before 17?(holding L2 then release to steal)

I use LS to point to runner then hit L2 to queue it up..

Never did use the hold then release.

It's weird. It's still not great, but if you time it right, you can get a really good jump and not get picked in the process. That way it seems to even out the stolen bases and the caught stealing's. Plus, a lot of times I'm banking on contact or an offspeed pitch when I'm sending them anyway.

Given the Dodgers have the anniversary patch on their sleeve, it's a real shame they don't have spring training patches. Just a small thing but it would really add something. I'm assuming they are a separate image added to the uniform and wouldn't need an entirely separate uniform version in which case it should be simple enough.

I'm also using pulse pitching for the first time and absolutely love it so far. I used the meter last year and found my accuracy was a bit too good most of the time so felt like a new challenge, but what I like about pulse pitching so far is the differentiation between each pitch and from pitcher to pitcher. I haven't found a way to change the speed of the pitch though like I could with the meter, unless I'm missing something.

The fluidity of this game is so damn good.

Fielding just feels so good in this game

While I am disappointed with the lack of additions to franchise mode I feel like we have to remember they have the best feature of any sports game with year to year saves. And they have cleaned up the offseason making 30 team control much easier.
