Re: MLB 18 The Show Trade Discussion

Any suggestions for a Kurt Suzuki/Keon Broxton trade? I found that I could make this trade:

    ATL
    C Kurt Suzuki
    1B 18 y/o-56 rating-A potential (name escapes me)

    MIL
    CF Keon Broxton

Is this a believable trade? Am I giving up too much/too little?

Yeah I probably need some clarification on Schwarbers actual value. His surplus is pretty low but again, I know Chicago values him much higher than a simple low value prospect.

        Any thoughts?
I would move flowers to 1B or RF. Freeman can also play third too so...

Looking to get Manny Machado to Chicago.... White Sox. Sox aren't in any position to contend, but looking to trade assets in hope to land Machado and hope to resign him in the off-season, build around him

            White sox:
SP Carson Fulmer 59 ovr 24 Age Pot A
SS Jose Rondon 60 ovr 24 Age Pot B
RF Eloy Jimenez 65 ovr 21 Age Pot A

            Orioles:
            Manny Machado

CPU says yes, is this enough, too much?
            Thanks

Well it kind of depends if you're trying to be realistic or not. Cause there is absolutely no way Chi-Sox give up Eloy, let alone for "hope" to resign Machado. I know when the Sox checked in on him during the off-season, the rumor was Baltimore wanted Giolito & Kopech, plus other prospects.

Re: MLB 18 The Show Trade Discussion

First time posting on OS. Actually signed up because of this thread. So I'm a Tribe fan but they aren't the most fun team to build in franchise. So I have a Pittsburgh Pirates franchise going and I'm looking to acquire some high level (AA or AAA) prospects that can debut in 2018-2020. So a couple of questions thoughts:

Move Josh Harrison: Game is suggesting Miguel Andujar but that seems like too good of a return.

Going big and looking at moving Felipe Romero to the Tribe for Francisco Mejia and Bobby Bradley? Am I getting enough? I think Cleveland Indians would do that considering the control of Romero after losing Allen and Miller.

General rule on 1 year rental reliever trades? C's and maybe A low "B" prospect?

                Appreciate any response and help.

I would like to keep it as real as possible. I'll do some more working see if I can't find another trade

Yeah the Cubs wouldn't even move him for Andrew Miller a few years back so I can't see them doing that deal. He's already at .9 WAR for the season. He has 4 more years of team control if I remember correctly. He's projected for 3 WAR so if we assume that's his true talent were looking at 4 years x 3 WAR x $10 per win. Which is $120 million on value prior to his salaries which shouldn't exceed more than say $40 million over the next 4 years. Ultimately I think his value is closer to roughly $70 million in surplus.

Yikes, yeah that is a bit too rich for me. I knew they valued him high but using Historic WAR, his value wasn't there. How are you getting Projected?

His current Fangraphs WAR and then adding rest of season STEAMER projection to it. Not sure how you came up with $2 million when he has .9 WAR after 109 PA. With a straight projection he's pushing like 4.5 with 500 PAs and even baking in regression gets him around 3.5+.

Maybe you used his 2017 season where he came back from a torn ALL to create his baseline but I don't see how that's any better than his 2015 where he had basically 2 WAR in just under half a season. His career average per 500 PA is 2.46 even with his roughish return from injury.

We've been using a very specific method to get surplus.

                          2017 WAR x 6
                          2016 WAR x 3
                          2015 WAR x 1
                          Total divided by 10.

EDIT: We've also been using 9WAR, as opposed to 10. So his numbers come out quite literally to this:
                          .1 x 9 x 4 = 3.6M

That is without subtracting any of his contract.

We've also been using Baseball-Reference as opposed to Fangraphs. We don't use anything from the current season as its just additional steps we have to try and teach people in the thread and it may not be realistic in terms of what said player is doing in their individual franchise.

I mean his ACL injury gives him a 0 for 2016 so that skews it pretty hard. I mean if you did Adam Eaton right now you'd get 2.4 + 18.3 +4 for an average of 2.47. Then based on age you would expect a decline from that number. However I don't think anyone would expect "only" 2.47 WAR or less each year going forward for Eaton.

Used him because of the ACL connection.

So now that I see the methodology, I don't necessarily disagree. I also see literally a 0% chance the Cubs view him in this light. So while the method may very well be right for this setting it isn't close to a number the Cubs accept.

So maybe split the difference between my first # and yours and land around 40ish million in surplus?
