Re: After 250 games, MLB The Show '18 feels as new as it did on launch day

I just played an epic 2-1 game against the Angels. After losing the first two I was determined not to get swept. Trout scored a solo HR to put them 1-0 up. I responded with a solo Turner HR and a Puig RBI to go ahead 2-1 in the fourth. From that point it was all pitching but in the top of the 8th I put two Angel's on base and they called on Pujols to pinch hit. Then a banner pops up telling me he's chasing his 3000th hit, currently on 2999. Damn, the pressure increased ten fold. After a tense 8 pitch AB I finally got him to swing at one inside and up. Literally, I jumped up throwing punches in the air like an idiot. So much fun though.

And they won the WS last year and made the WC play-in game in mine.

Don't mean to sound stupid but what actually makes 18 such a better ga me than 17?

I have 17 and kinda am getting a little bored of the routine been there done that feel of this game over the last several years....I'm really looking for a good reason to pick up 18 but don't want to be sorry again

If you're looking for a drastically different experience from within franchise mode, not really any difference except 18 has phases to help keep track of whats ahead on the calendar. but as far as between the chalklines on the field, the ball physics changed considerably. probably owes a lot to do with making each game have a unique feel

I only played '17 for about a month before putting it on the shelf and going back to '16, so I can't say how much different '18 is than '17 because I didn't play it very much and didn't play enough games after patches (after a patch I might have played a game) to give a fair assessment.

What I can say about '18 is that it is a hell of a baseball game. The ball physics (which out of the box in '17 I thought were "off/unbalanced") feel absolutely amazing. The fielding is the best it has been in the series I think and the I like the CPU using pitching matchups better. Also the presentation and commentary are good in '18.

While I agree that franchise mode still needs a lot of TLC, they did add a bit more than just PHASES to it this year, in regards to better roster management/building by CPU controlled teams and retirement logic.

Not to mention I think free agent signings, contracts, and trade logic are all good in '18.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Its been hard for me to both play and post a legit dynasty thread as I become too impatient inbetween games.

I also fall into the trap of buying some of the newer sports games but I somehow always come back to this one. Theres just something romantic about baseball.

Now after 200+ games you’d think I wouldn’t get psyched out by the random fan yelling swing as i chase another fastball over my head

The gameplay is just completely better. Less unrealistic just late hits. Fielding is less automatic. Pitching is harder, things just seem more high leverage in general.

Also the presentation package is greatly improved imo.

But then again season mode was removed and I haven't play 18 in a few months. It depends on what matters to you.
