The excitement and anticipation when a new MVP Baseball game is announced will be flat out off the f*ck*** charts. As it should be.
If EA brought back MVP it would take the same path that Live has taken and treat franchise mode as an afterthought, the Live franchise mode is bare bones at best.

Two very simple ways that SDS can make franchise mode relevant to a bigger audience apart from actually improving the mode by adding more features.

For the online crowd, bring back online franchise os they can play against the friends or other players.

For the DD crowd, let them sign those legend card players as free agents, or draft their equivalent rookies and throw in rewards for accomplishing goals.

Damage control and a bad one at that. Speaking of a way to alienate your hardcore players, is to include them in the same sentences with casual gamer. The article sound like they closed many doors on franchise mode, and just offers a -casual- feature here and there. And the total lack of resolving a bug in 18 franchise (club option) isn't a great stamp of any dedication, in my view.

Contract extension was requested, not only for the players but the coaches. It's a nice addition. I hope it includes the coaches.

They didn't mention that they fixes the off-season horrible UI (FA signing) and the club option mess. I won't buy a broken product, simple as that.

It’s also arguably the best pure representation of its sport in a video game. For whatever that’s worth.

Without wishing to derail this thread, Pro Evolution argues otherwise

There was actually a version at some stage that let you play 90 minute games but the final scores were ridiculous.

FIFA? Really? Couldn't disagree more, it's turned into a cartoon arcade game and isn't remotely representative of an actual game of football. Graphically it's impressive, but gameplay wise it's miles off and not really even trying to be realistic.

It's the old self fulfilling prophecy. Neglect a mode for years that is already lacking---then cite the fact that not enough people play it to warrant an upgrade. We've seen this playbook before.

I don't understand SDS adversarial relationship with "franchise mode" Arguments are too complex, daunting, ect... and their answer has always been "FASTER" everything is fast, it started with fast forward and now we're at March to October" as a means to complete the story in record breaking time, it's always "fast".

                    Fast Ways to Play

                    Fast Forward
                    Critical Situations
                    Player Lock
                    Quick Manage
                    Quick Counts
                    Simming
                    March to October

If running day to day task in the franchise is too much for a player, you have "auto" features to handle those tasks. If playing the game takes too long for you and you want to experience each out and at bat, you have an "In-Game Save" feature as well as a system suspend and resume feature.

News Flash!!! Running a multi-billion company is daunting, it is complex and there are no quick fixes. If you want to simulate a franchise you are not going to get it done in a month or a year, it is a multi year process and a lot of luck and it is grueling and you must have patience.

I have not once seen the argument from SDS or the features to say lets make it compelling, lets make them want to play Franchise. I don't want a segregated experience make it play franchise baseball with the vision of not making hardcore or casual make it play the business of baseball. NBA 2K franchise mode is all about a compelling experience. SDS, should not concern themselves with this "it's hard, tedious, daunting, and takes a lot of time" mantra. Just make the game and stop relying on data of people simming or not getting through a season of franchise, that should not be your concern. That is all on the gamer and not the company.

I don't know how many of you play Gran Turismo Sport, but they have a genius system to teach drivers how to drive on the circuits by way of a YouTube video in-game tutorials. SDS, should take this approach of teaching the gamer these rules and task and how to execute them. Reading them is one thing and reading it is somewhat overwhelming, but if you had a video guide on how to, it would be more engaging.

I am a big franchise player but over the past couple years I got into DD and have more hours spent in DD than franchise. However, the reason I play more DD than franchise now is because franchise mode has gotten stale. I would love to play strictly franchise. So while their stats are showing more people are playing DD than franchise, how much of that is due from the lack of upgrades that people have wanted in franchise and are just bored with it and wont play it?

With respect to other Franchise modes in games, I've found NHL 19 to be particularly well done, the caveat being that I'm not as in tune with the inner workings of free agency and general knowledge of the players as I am with baseball.

I especially like the GM goals and trade feedback. The trade system seems to be pretty spot on, and has options to retain/take on money, feedback from CPU owners as to not wanting to take on a specific player/salary, etc. The GM goals take into effect market size, etc. These are things that the show needs to add to round out the budget/FA/trade logic.

That's all I really want, expansion, etc. would be nice, but......I'm good with just having proper finances and team logic.

I may pick up in the summer when the roster drops but I doubt I will still be interested by then. This makes doing rebuilds completely pointless and just kills the immersion for me.

I would like to get into OOTP but if I can't play the games then I just can't see myself getting into it. I will however be spending the money I was going to spend on the show on OOTP even if I don't play it to support Ridin for all of the enjoyment he has given me out of this game over the years.

I really had fun going back and forth and participating in these forums this year. Even the guys who I didn't necessarily agree with it has been real. It's a sad day, this will be the first time the show is not a day one pick up for me since David wright was on the cover and this may be the first time I actually skip completely. Good luck to everybody this year, and for those of you sticking with it, I hope you enjoy it. See you guys in the madden forums in August.

I’m in the same boat. Without full minors and without any significant improvements to franchise mode I am definitely going to wait to buy, and very well may skip altogether.

I haven’t missed a pre-order since switching from Xbox to PS3 specifically for The Show in 2009.

I just ordered NHL 19 to try to fill my gaming void that is created by waiting/skipping The Show.

I don't even know that it's something that's done intentionally, I just think it's something that's bound to happen.

The same thing happened with the EA NHL series. Offline modes weren't as popular as their online stuff, and also didn't have the added bonus of making them money on top of the purchase price.

So naturally EA started to gravitate towards things that improved the online side of things. That in itself didn't both me, but when the offline Be a GM mode became an obvious afterthought, I no longer had any reason to play the game, or purchase it at all. I haven't bought an NHL game in 3 years now, just because that's how stale the offline gameplay became.

I could rant on it for hours, but I think at some point a studio has to commit to changing/improving something even if it's hard to justify financially. Otherwise that feature and it's users are going to vanish altogether. I love hockey more than any other sport. Play it in real life, watch it on a near-constant basis...and I would kill for a hockey game. But EA's offering just hasn't been good enough for me to even justify spending $20 should it go on sale, much less the $70 they think it's worth at launch.

I would note this franchise thread has 200+ posts and 12,000 views. The March to October has 40 posts and 3,000 views.

Might be time for the developers to start listening to someone else in determining what to focus on.
