Re: Official MLB 19 the Show Trade Discussion

So, what can i get for Fulmer. Im in the first year of my tigers rebuild. He was injured for 2 months and pitched well when he came back. Im kinda looking for a young CF and a stopgap at SS. I drafted a beast SS who will be ready for the bigs in about a year and a half. Pitching wise i have enough prospects to choose from.

I was looking at Almora JR but dont know if a straight up swap for Almora/Russel - Fulmer is realistic

      @MrSerendipity

I'm going to have to agree that the Cubs probably aren't moving Hoerner for relievers. It just doesn't make a ton of sense for them.

Why not just do a straight swap of Happ for Givens? I feel like Baltimore has a much better opportunity to cash in if they split the assets anyway. Or, alternatively, Bleier for Happ + Lange?

Fine by me, at this point I'm just ready to do the trade and move on.

Hahaha, fair enough...who would have thought that a Rangers fan would get flack over a Cubs-Orioles trade!

You still thinking about waiving Russell? Trying to figure out what I want to do with him in my franchise, but if he were waived, I'd probably end up getting him, which would then seem a tad unfair. I'm 7-3 in my Marlins franchise (and 4-8 in my Jays ), so someone might claim him before I get the chance anyway.

I think waiving Russell makes the most sense. If Hoerner is staying, they don't need the insurance that Russell provides and I'm having a hard time finding a spot outside of Baltimore that he would fit in naturally. Miami does make sense so I don't think its unfair for you to waive him and claim him. I'm planning to do it after the season has concluded.

Sounds good. Might just send them a so/so reliever to make myself feel better.

What are your thoughts on Castro for Kipnis/Bradley/Hentges? The math worked out, and it fills a future hole at first for me (I've got Ben Paulsen/Prado splitting time there now), but Cleveland also adds an extra year of salary to Cleveland (Though they could trade him in 2020).

I think this is fine. I'm actually glad you brought up Cleveland because I think a discussion needs to be had there.

How are we feeling about Lindor? I've been thinking about setting up a trade for him given Dolan's comments. They can really maximize their return this upcoming off-season or next year. I'm just a bit intimidated by the notion of creating a trade as we're talking about 150M in surplus here.

                  Yes! Blockbuster time!!!

Gotta think that if anyone is going to pay that $150, my expectation is that there should probably be an extension involved. He's absolutely worth the $150, but it's hard to see a team trade what would amount to being their entire system if they have no intention to sign him long term.

Thinking about teams that could be in on him-

                  -Braves
                  -Phillies?
                  -Cards
-Rays would be an interesting dark horse? They don't have a ton of money, but they also could make for a neat buyer story line.
                  -Yankees
-Twins (Inter-division though, so that's probably a long shot)
-Dodgers (Justin Turner is 35 soon, and is off the books after 2020). One of Seager/Lindor shifts to 3rd, Turner shifts to 2nd or 1st, Bellinger back to left?

You'd need to find a team with a ML ready player with lots of control, worth like $60-80m to send back tbh, there is no amount of prospects that really makes up $150m! (especially not that any one would give up for a player)

So maybe the Braves send Swanson + 2-3 very good prospects, or the Rays send Adames + lots, something like that.

                      CLE
                      Lindor

                      ATL
                      Swanson ($60)
                      Soroka ($45.9)
                      Wright ($32.2)
                      Anderson ($32.2)

I'd be worried here that one of the Braves biggest needs is pitching, and they're giving up a lot of top notch arms. Makes some degree of sense though.

                      PHI
Looking at this, I don't think the Phillies have the prospects to make it happen after they gave up Sixto to get Realmuto. Medina looks like he could be a stud, but until he jumps up the prospect board, I think they're out.

                      STL
                      Bader ($111)
Reyes (I'm thinking he's probably still worth $40 ish?)
                      Gorman ($24.1)

I was about to say that Dejong is overrated, but then looked at his bbref page and nearly had a heart attack. Not sure how to work this infield.

                      Yankees
Doubt they want to move Torres, but it probably has to happen. Maybe this isn't the best move.

                      Rays
                      Wander ($65.6)
                      Honeywell ($32.2)
                      McKay ($35.2)
                      Hernandez ($20.2)

                      Dodgers
                      Verdugo ($37.6)
                      Ruiz ($37.6)
                      May ($19.7)
                      Urias (Maybe also $40?)
                      Another $40ish piece?

I agree, there is no way Lindor is getting traded without the team securing him to a long-term deal. I think you put together the most realistic list of teams. Narrowing it down, I think these teams pose the best return.

Atlanta - This deal would likely start with Swanson. He still has three years of control after the current season. He carries over a third of the value going back to Cleveland. He'll demand a good contract when he hits Free Agency but nothing like what Lindor will demand unless Swanson really turns the table.

Philadelphia - This makes sense. In my Franchise, Philadelphia just won the World Series. I'm thinking this deal likely centers around a starting core package of Kingery and Hernandez. I doubt Hernandez is truly thrilling to Cleveland in a Lindor trade but he's still on the right side of thirty and he's a great replacement for Kipnis at second. Kingery still has tons of control and he's a natural at short.

Tampa Bay - Tampa could make some sense if they're willing to roll out the Brinks truck. My only concern, this deal would have to start with Franco who is very clearly beloved by the Rays Organization and their fans. Who is to say Franco doesn't become the next Lindor? Adames is an option but he doesn't come close to bringing the kind of value needed in this situation. With that said, they just acquired Bumgarner in my Franchise and lost to Boston in the Wild Card. Maybe this gives them an insane push?

New York - I would throw New York in, simply because I don't think New York would allow themselves not to call Cleveland if Lindor became available. With that said, no deal gets done without Torres and I don't think New York benefits by trading him Gleyber. I think they just call and likely pass on the opportunity.

Los Angeles - I would mention Los Angeles for the same reason I mentioned New York. They wouldn't allow themselves to pass on calling at least. And you made a valid point, Seager or Lindor one could move to third to create a truly deadly left side of the infield in LA. With that said, I'm assuming Verdugo would be the center piece of this deal. I don't know if he's enough to get the job done. Taylor would bring back some value but I don't think Dolan would be particularly interested in a Verdugo/Taylor starting point.

I don’t think the Yankees would be in on Lindor. They’d probably call but I don’t see them paying a premium in young talent for a SS right now when they could’ve landed a different elite SS/3B only months ago when they only had to pay a premium in money. The Andujar injury probably makes it more likely that any package would have to start with Gleyber and talks would probably end fast after that point.

If Cleveland would take a package starting with Andujar instead then maybe. I don’t really see the Yankees parting with their top young talent for a position player. If the Yankees make a blockbuster trade it would likely be for the best starter on the trade market. Based on them signing Tulo and their lack of seriousness in pursuing Manny I think they expect Didi to be just fine when he returns. Kluber would be a much more realistic trade target for them in my opinion.

With that said, I'm assuming Verdugo would be the center piece of this deal. I don't know if he's enough to get the job done. Taylor would bring back some value but I don't think Dolan would be particularly interested in a Verdugo/Taylor starting point.
I wonder if Seattle would be in on something like this? Sheffield/Kelenic would be nice gets for Cleveland.

Potentially. Although I don't know how realistic it would be for them to give up Segura in 18 and then acquire Lindor in 20. Especially in my franchise, where they finished fourth in the division. The more I sit and mull over it, Atlanta seems to be the most qualified landing spot in terms of what they can provide in return.

                              ATL:
                              Francisco Lindor
                              Bradley Zimmer

                              CLE:
                              Dansby Swanson
                              Mike Soroka
                              Christian Pache
                              Bryse Wilson

That's a pretty sizable return without capsizing the farm. Thoughts?

What about swapping Zimmer with a reliever? Otero is obviously worth less, but moving Zimmer leaves you with an outfield of Martin, Naquin and Bauers, with not much behind them until Pache comes along. Or, alternatively, sending Martin. Martin gives the Braves an experienced OF option, who could take over for Matt Joyce.

I just see Zimmer as a guy with a ton of cheap control left, and a whole lot of upside.

Edit: Or, include Hand and get another arm back. Tough to give up a guy that you just traded Mejia for, but it might make some sense.
