      Cardinals take series against Rockies

The Cardinals got a big series win, taking 2 of 3 games against the NL West leading Rockies. The Cardinals won the bookend games, with the series finale being an epic comeback in which the Cardinals scored 7 runs in the 7th inning to turn a 6-1 deficit into an 8-6 lead. The Cardinals would score 2 more runs in the 8th to go on to win 10-6.

Both Michael Wacha and Tim Lincecum struggled in their respective starts, as they each only survived 4 innings before being lifted, which means the bullpen took a beating in the series. Thankfully the Cardinals are off on Thursday to give the bullpen arms a rest.

The Cardinals will now head out on a 10 game road trip starting with 3 in Cincinnati against the pesky Reds over the weekend.

The Cardinals currently lead the NL Central Division by 5 1/2 games over the Pirates.

Cardinals recall Edmundo Sosa from Memphis. Send down Tommy Edman

The Cardinals have recalled IF Edmundo Sosa from Memphis and have optioned Tommy Edman back down to Memphis.

The 27 year old Edmundo Sosa was re-acquired by the Cardinals this year after he was traded to the A's last year, where he saw limited action with the A's. Sosa has been playing well down in Memphis and with Edman struggling at the plate, the Cardinals are looking to get a more balanced bench option in the infield to coincide with Kiki Hernandez.

28 year old Tommy Edman was optioned back down to Memphis after struggling at the plate in St.Louis. Edman was just 1 for 18 at the plate in limited games with 9 strikeouts. He just continuously looked overmatched.

With September call ups about 10 days away, both players are expected to be on 40 man active September roster.

This was a first for me and a fun moment. A little disappointed at the lack of excitement from the commentary team, the clip cuts off but the only thing they mention is that the lead has increased to 1. On his next appearance they don't even mention it. Apparently they find in the park home runs boring.

                  Cardinals outright Austin Gomber

The Cardinals have outrighted LHP Austin Gomber. The 29 year old is now on irrevocable waivers, and if he clears will be outrighted to Memphis. Gomber has been part of the 40 man roster since making the roster out of Spring Training, but struggled in his time at the big league level and even more concerning, is struggling at the AAA level pitching to a 1-7 record with an ERA near 7 and a WHIP over 2.

With just about 10 days left in the regular season for Memphis, its expected that if Gomber clears waivers, the Cardinals will retain him in the organization and possibly use him as a trade piece in the offseason.

Help! I'm 1 for 15 in steal attempts. It doesn't help that the Giants fastest player is a 78 and nobody had a good steal rating. But I've rendered this weapon useless. How do you guys get successful at stealing bags?
