      CHICAGO PUNCHES FIRST CS TICKET

Hellickson pitched 8 innings of masterful baseball! Lester only lasted 5 but worked out of some major trouble a couple times! 13 innings of chilly wet Chicago weather before Washington would find themselves in a position all to familiar to many other teams this season. Cubs had men on 2nd and 3rd with NL MVP Williams at the plate and Banks on deck. Washington would of course walk Williams, and Banks would again make someone pay for doing so and walk off the win with a hit in the gap to left center! Chicago nails down their claim as one of the top 4 teams in this historic season! Well done!

Royals sign Matt Chapman and Blake Snell on back to back days

It's not difficult to determine who is currently winning the offseason this year, as the Royals just signed 2 all-stars in back to back days.

First the Royals signed 3B Matt Chapman to a 7 year $217MM contract. Chapman will take over everyday 3rd base duties moving Mike Moustaskas to DH.

The very next day the Royals signed SP Blake Snell to a 6 year $165.60MM contact. Snell will become the ace of a rotation that includes Jake Arrieta, Yordano Ventura, James Paxton, and youngster and top prospect Logan Webb.

The Royals missed winning the AL Central last year by losing a tiebreaker game to the Indians, but still reached the postseason as a wildcard team. You've got to think that this easily makes them the favorite right now to win the AL Central as the Indians and Twins have been quiet this offseason though its early. If the Royals can land a solid left fielder and one more bullpen arm, they could easily be the American League favorites when Spring Training opens in 3 months.

Astros sign Gary Sanchez to 4 year/$44.80MM deal

The Astros have started their rebuilding/reloading process by landing the top catcher in free agency in Gary Sanchez. Sanchez signed a 4 year $44.80MM contract after spending the last 2 years in Tampa Bay. Sanchez will look to help ignite an offense that became very lackluster after losing the likes of Carlos Correa and George Springer.

        Blue Jays land Tyler Glasnow

The Blue Jays signed Tyler Glasnow to a 6 year $165.52MM contract thus bolstering a rotation that includes Marcus Stroman, Jacob deGrom, Elvis Luciano, and Jose Quintana. The Blue Jays also have some of the better starting pitching prospects in baseball.

The Blue Jays won the AL East last year and could be the favorites to do it again, although right now catcher, left fielder, and a few bullpen arms are needed.

Astros sign Jake Thompson to 6 year $184.80MM deal

The Astros have struck again this offseason, this time landing 2022 AL Cy Young award winner Jake Thompson. The Astros signed him to a 6 year $184.80MM deal.

Thompson won the AL Cy Young award last year after posting a 16-7 record with a 3.33 ERA with the Orioles. He pitched 227 1/3 innings and struck out a major league leading 264 batters.

Thompson becomes the ace of a rotation that has Sonny Gray, Dallas Keuchel, and top prospects Forrest Whitley and Francis Martes.

A's sign Alex Blandino to 7 year $217MM contract

The A's may have lost Matt Chapman, but they made up for it signing Alex Blandino. They sign Blandino to a 7 year $217MM deal. Blandino was a top 5 free agent this year. The 30 year old Blandino hit .281 with 27 homeruns and 85 RBI for the Reds last year and was part of the nucleus that led the Reds to the postseason as a wild card team. Big blow for the Reds, but a great pick up for the A's. Not sure where the A's will play Blandino, but expectations are that he will take over at the hot corner with Chapman going to Kansas City.

            IMG_0620.jpg

            NOT SO FAST

This was a very well pitched ballgame from both sides for the majority of the game! The Dodgers would grab a 1-0 lead in the first but then both sides struggled to do anything against the opposing starters.

Until the top of the 7th:
Derek Law would take the mound for SF!

            IMG_0621.jpg

Eddie Murray pinch hitting for Buehler gets hbp! Robinson would walk! (Runners at First and Second). Reese flies out to Mays. (1 out). SF brings in Rob Nen to face Snider.

            IMG_0622.jpg

Snider gets hbp to load the bases with 1 out and Piazza up. Nen strikes out Piazza. (2 out Kemp up). Kemp singles to center scoring Murray and Robinson giving the Dodgers a seemingly insurmountable 3-0 lead.

            IMG_0623.jpg

            Bottom 8th:
LA seems to start the countdown and brings Kenley Jansen in.

            IMG_0624.jpg

Newly entered SF catcher Vogt works a long quality AB that results in a single up the middle.

            IMG_0625.jpg

            IMG_0626.jpg

Irvin flies out to Bellinger. Pence strikes out on a slider, then Mays singles to right. (Runners at first and second with 2 out).

            IMG_0627.jpg

            IMG_0628.jpg

LA brings in Pedro Baez with McCovey up.

            IMG_0629.jpg

Baez walks McCovey loading the bases

            IMG_0630.jpg

            IMG_0631.jpg

Then hits Cepeda with a pitch (which even the announcers called retaliation from the 2 Dodgers hbp in the 7th lol) scoring the first run for SF. LA brings in lefty Caleb Ferguson to face lefty Brandon Crawford.

            IMG_0632.jpg

Crawford smacks a Grand Slam over the short porch in right giving SF the late lead 5-3!

            IMG_0633.jpg

            IMG_0634.jpg

            IMG_0635.jpg

SF would bring Christy Mathewson in for the ninth, ( only his second opportunity this postseason, striking out the side in his first).

            IMG_0636.jpg

It would only take him 7 pitches to secure the win and send this series back to LA for a decisive Game 5! This Giants team has felt like they’ve been playing catch up all year, but they remain in the race at the moment and only one win away from the NLCS. Game 5 should be fun!

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

With just about six weeks to go in the season the A's have clinched the AL West. Also, we continue to extend our record-breaking win streak.

For those that didn't know or had forgotten in my first year of this franchise, Khris Davis broke Barry Bonds single season home run record. He hit 75 that season. As it stands right now in the season he is on pace to equal or beat his own record from a year ago.

however, there was a newcomer to our team that was touted with 30 home run power. that player is Roughned Odor. He is also on pace to either tie or breaks Davis's record from the previous season.

Going into the final week of August Odor has 69 home runs and Davis has 67 home runs.

The Main races in the divisions are pretty much locked up. that is unless we have some history type of collapses coming in the coming weeks. However, the Wild card races are getting more, and more interesting every day that passes.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

I've been kinda slow finishing the 2025 regular season....I still have one day left and I stand at 98-63. Jarod Feller got his final start of the season and won improving his record to 22-4 with a 3.26 era, 254 K's in 234 innings. He backed up his 2024 nicely (15-5, 2.25 era, 200K's in 180 innings). Even though the era is a full run higher, he really did feel more electric this year given the offensive explosion my league felt in 2025. So it looks like I got an 89 rated A potential 24 year old ace on my hands.

It really is fun because I traded for him when he was a 66 rated 18 year old prospect. I fast tracked him because of his 98+ mph fastball....he worked a year out of the pen and has started for the last 4 years. His first 2 years were 4+ era seasons but he stilled filled my 4th and 5th spots in the rotation.

Also he just looks real cool....Think the Doors Jim Morrison circa the LA Woman era (long hair and a big blown out bushy beard)

                  Seattle Mariners Franchise: Year One

                  MLB(R) The Show(TM) 19_1.jpg

                  April Recap: (14-18)
After starting the season 10-5 things went down hill going 4-13 to finish the month. Got swept twice once by Houston on the road and then the Angels at home. Also experienced two 5 game losing streaks.

                  ***Staff Changes***
Mid may fired pitching coach Chris Kopotic. The pitch staff was blowing late game leads and giving up far to many home runs. When we lost we lost bad. Despite the recent poor run of form since joing the team new coach Rob Moin has boosted morale and the runs against have dropped.

                  ***Roster Moves***
Signed free agent SS Scott Pike to a one year deal to the Double-A team.

Edwin Encarnacion, Mike Leake and Tim Beckham have all been placed on the trading block.

Tim Beckham along with minor league player 2B Rueben Hamilton were traded to the Blue Jays for SS Freddy Galvis.

                  ***The Numbers***

                  Batting Average | .246
                  Slugging | .365

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

After the first two games of the series vs the Brewers, and two wins, I'm feeling a little better about the early season.

A walk off win in the 9th by Jarrod Dyson to send the Brewers home with a loss was the finish of game one. And then after just 3 hits in the ball game, but one big one by Matt Carpenter for a Grand Slam, I beat the Brewers 5-0 in game two.

I'm about to fire up the stream for at least one more game, possibly two. I'm enjoying this early part of the year so far.

Current Record: 6-5 (Above .500 YEAH!)

For the first time this series, there was no doubt who a certain game belonged to! NY started in the first and never let Boston even threaten any kind of real comeback! The only bright spot for the Redsox was that David Price pitched 5 innings in relief not allowing the Yankees to add anymore to their already sizable lead, at one point retiring 10 straight! This series will now be decided by a huge Game 5, played at none other than the Cathedral of Baseball itself! The House that Ruth built, the original Yankee Stadium!

I'm going to have to up my details more. I tried to do the Dynasty thing in my profile but I don't have enough points for it yet.

However, I just started a new drafted dynasty. Yes, I sat through all 90 rounds. The drafting was crazy though with 8 closers going through the first 3 rounds? All the top prospects were gone by the 10th round too. My first few picks looked like this; Reaches I know but I had to because everyone was getting picked so early.

                        1st- Francisco Lindor
                        2nd- Max Scherzer
                        3rd- George Springer
                        4th- Lance McCullers Jr.
                        5th- Bo Bichette
                        6th- Forest Whitley

Cards get Jo Adell from Red Sox for 3 players

The Cardinals and Red Sox agreed to a trade that will send Jo Adell from Boston to St.Louis for 3 players. The trade:

                          Boston Gets:

                          C - Francisco Alvarez - 20 years old (Top 50 prospect)

SP - Andrew Morales - 30 years old (Red Sox need SP depth)

2B/IF - Edmundo Sosa - 27 years old (Red Sox needed bench player for MLB)

                          Cardinals Get:

OF - Jo Adell - 24 years old (Expected to be everyday RF)

The Red Sox have been trying to trade Adell for quite some time now as things didn't work for him in Boston, after they acquired him from the Angels 2 years ago. He never could fit into the starting lineup and was signed to a team friendly deal of $6.3MM per year to buyout his renewable and arbitration years.

Adell is a player that hits for power, can run, and is an outstanding defensive player. If the Cardinals and hitting coach Dave Magadan can get him to make more contact and swing for the gaps instead of the fences, Adell could have a remarkable career. He's only 24 years old, so the Cardinals will have him thru his development years and are expecting him to be the everyday right fielder to coincide with Bader (28 years old) and Fabregas (27 years old) to form a dangerous outfield that is all signed thru the 2025 season (next 3 seasons)

The Cardinals went into the offseason looking to revamp their bullpen and re-balance their roster where they felt they were hanging onto prospects and creating long jams, and this is the first of what is expected to be a few moves to rectify that situation.

Cardinals trade Corey Ray to Brewers for cash

In a move that is corresponding to the Adell deal, the Cardinals have traded Corey Ray to the Brewers for cash. The 28 year old really doesn't have the arm to the everyday right fielder and is better served either in left or center, but the Cardinals have those spots occupied by Fabregas in left and Bader in center. Ray will be a focal point of the rebuild taking place in Milwaukee. He has 3 years left on his contract and the Brewers are working their way to being competitive in 2024 (next season) and beyond.

Ray didn't want to be a bench player, so the Cardinals after acquiring Adell from Boston, felt the best option was to move Ray and relived themselves of his money to spend elsewhere.

***Before someone freaks out you can't trade for cash in the game. What I do is trade a player for the lowest rated, lowest salaried player and then release this player, pay the 50% of his contract and go on. I know its not really trading for cash, but this is what I equate it to because in this case, Ray was making $2.8MM per year and the guy I traded for was only making 50K. So I paid $30K or whatever it was and then have $2.5MM free from Ray contract to spend on free agents.***

Cardinals sign Pedro Baez and Andrew Miller to 1 year deals

The Cardinals continue to add depth to their relief pitching staff as they have signed both Pedro Baez ($1.5MM) and Andrew Miller($3.5MM) to 1 year deals.

The 35 year old Baez was 3-5 with 36 saves and a 3.98 ERA for the Cubs last year. Baez will head into spring competing for a role in the bullpen.

The 37 year old Miller was with the Cardinals last year before being dealt to the Blue Jays at the deadline. Miller didn't want to re-sign in Toronto and jumped at the opportunity to re-sign in St.Louis. Miller will most likely be in the bullpen when the 25 man rosters are set at the end of March.

The Cardinals were fully committed to revamping their bullpen and they are doing just that, going for established arms to try and let the younger arms develop at a more deliberate pace.

Cardinals bring back Joe Kelly and Sam Freeman on one year deals

The Cardinals continue to add depth to the bullpen as they have signed Joe Kelly ($600K) and Sam Freeman ($1.0MM) to one year deals.

Kelly pitched extremely well for the Cardinals in 2021 when he went 3-1 with 2 saves and a 2.06 ERA. He didn't re-sign in St.Louis last year electing to go the Blue Jays where he wasn't bad, going 7-1 with 4.64 ERA. He did blow 6 saves in Toronto. Kelly will compete for a job out of Spring Training but its expected he'll be in Memphis when camp breaks.

Same for Freeman who pitched well for the Cardinals in 2021 (4-1 with 2.17 ERA) but he elected not to re-sign in St.Louis and made his way to the Dodgers where he had an abysmal 2022 season where his ERA ballooned to 5.07. Still the Cardinals are hoping that Freeman will return to the form he's shown in several stints with the Cardinals. While he will compete for a job out of camp, its likely he'll be in Memphis when the season starts.

Cleveland on the other hand made some major moves attempting to push for the ultimate prize leading up to the playoffs, but their offense went ice cold at the wrong time! Young McCullers pitched brilliantly in the biggest game of his career so far! Houston will now wait and see who wins the Yankee vs Redsox Game 5 to find out who and where they play next!

                                Start of Season - 2021

So we ended up making just 1 addition in free agency. Bringing in Kike Hernandez just before spring training. He was pretty bad in 2020 hitting .203/.315/.352 in 310 AB. Brought him in for some insurance in case someone got hurt so he will start the year down in AAA and hopefully he can have a bounce back year. We also picked up RP Yacksel Rios in the Rule 5 draft from the Phillies. Didn't play in the majors at all in 2020. But had 65 innings back in 2019 and was pretty good with a 3.02 ERA. Aside from that there really wasn't anyone available that we wanted so we decided to save the money for next year. Our 65 Million in payroll for the season is 3rd lowest in the league. Nothing compared to the 46 Million Baltimore is spending and the 43 Million for Miami.

There were quite a few roster spots up for grabs in Spring Training with about 13 guys locked in. On the pitching side, we had 1 spot in the rotation open and 4 spots in the Bull Pen. For the position players we had 4 or 5 different spots in the lineup open and all backup spots were up for grabs.

6 guys were fighting for the last spot in the rotation and it wasnt all that good of a spring for anyone. Heath Fillymyer ended up with the spot. He joins Jake Junis, Brad Keller, Danny Duffy and Brady Singer. Fillmyer had a 3.98 ERA and 1.87 WHIP. The next best was Jackson Kowar with a 4.98 ERA. Because of that, we decided to carry a 4th middle reliever instead of having a 6th starter be a long reliever. Chad Sobotka, Richard Lovelady, Scott Barlow and Ben Lively were the 4 guys that earned spots in the pen. They joined Tim Hill, Josh Staumont and Yacksel Rios.

Over on the offensive side, Salvy will be the everyday Catcher. Dozier earned the job 1B job with Ryan O'Hearn starting at DH. Mondesi starts at 2b with Erick Mejia starting at SS. Kelvin Guttierez starts at 3B. Brandon Marsh and Drew Waters both earned spots with them splitting time in LF. Starling will start in CF and Bonifacio rounds out the starters in RF. Humberto Artega and Nicky Lopez will be our backup infielders with Cam Gallagher returning as backup catcher after spending most of the last 2 years down in AAA.

Our top prospect and #3 overall Dennis Keisler will start the year down in AA. He put up a 2.62 ERA with 105 Strikeouts in 99.2 IP down there last year. Gonna give him a couple starts to get back into things and then move him up to AAA if it all goes well. If we are in the playoff race late in the season he could make his MLB debut to help put us over the top.

Joining him down in AA is our #2 prospect and the #1 overall pick in last years draft Kurt Bowles. I think he has the bat to advance quickly through the system and with Salvy being a free agent after this season I would really like for him to succeed quickly. But with how our other catching prospect have developed I don't want to rush him.

Like our top guys, our #3 prospect Dylan Morrow will also be starting down in AA. We considered him with the first pick last year. But didnt feel like a Reliever was worth it. Luckily he fell to our 2nd pick and he could be moving extremely fast if things go well. Will probably spend a month or 2 down in AA before moving up to AAA. Another couple of months there and he could be on his way to the big leagues.

Our highest prospect in AAA is #4 Carlos Torres. He dominated AA last year with a 1.64 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 126.1 IP. Moved up to AAA and struggled a bit with a 4.28 ERA in 27.1 IP. I dont think he is quite as ready as Keisler is so I would expect him to spend the entire season down in AAA but if he goes out and puts up a season like he did last year he might just force our hand.

Rounding out the top 5 is Daniel Lynch joining Torres in AAA. He wasn't quite as good as Torres was in AA last year putting up a 3.59 ERA in 133 IP. But when he moved up to AAA he was much better with a 2.32 ERA in 31 IP. He had a shot to make the major league team out of spring training but got lit up. I would expect him to debut at some point this year. Around the All Star break most likely.

We start the season on the road in Cleveland before heading to Minnesota for 2 games. Our home Opener is April first against the Los Angeles Angels who will be without Mike Trout after he tore his Groin in Spring Training. He will be out for another 6-8 weeks. Overall we have 32 games before May. 17 at home and 25 games against teams that were .500 or better last season so things could go really bad really fast if we struggle.
