      Start of Season - 2020

After restarting to use the draft rosters I decided to sim the 2019 season. It didnt go well as we ended up with the worst record at 59-103. It was a 1 game improvement over 2018 though. So that's good. I guess. The Braves and Yankees both won 104 games. Both would go on to lose in the Division series. The Rays and Cubs matched up in the World Series with the Cubs prevailing to win their 2nd World Series in the last 4 years and 4th overall.

Ned Yost was not given a new contract after the season. He finishes his Royals career with a 495-565. 22-9 in 2 playoff appearances and a World Series ring. We brought in Justin Snell to be the new skipper. We also brought in an entirely new coaching staff. Hitting Coach Bob Kalita, Pitching Coach Toby Steffan, 1st Base Coach Maury Hayek, 3rd Base Coach Brandon Francisco and Farm Director Chip Bentler. All received 3 year contracts.

We also chose to not bring back any of our 9 Free Agents. The toughest decision being Alex Gordon after he put up 22 Home Runs. Billy Hamilton, Jake Diekman, Martin Maldonado, Brad Boxberger, Drew Storen, Lucas Duda, Homer Bailey, and Wily Peralta were the others. The only additions we made in the offseason were to help with filling out the organization.

Going into Spring Traning the majority of the roster was set. There were 2 spots open in the rotation with Keller, Junis and Duffy being set. 4 spots in the pen were open (1 LR, 3 MR). Tim Hill, Ian Kennedy, and Kevin McCarthy were the only locks. On the offensive side, 7 of the 9 spots in the lineup were set with LF, RF and 2B being the spots up for grabs. Whit would take 2B or an OF spot depending on where everyone ended up. And all backups were up for grabs.

It was an 8 way battle for the last 2 rotation spots and the LR role. Heath Fillmyer and Jorge Lopez would end up winning the 2 starter spots with Jesse Hahn starting out in the bullpen as he returns for his first MLB appearance since June 2017. Kyle Zimmer, Jake Newberry, and Josh Staumont ended up winning the last 3 spots in the pen.

Nicky Lopez lead the team with a .326 AVG and won spot in the lineup at 2nd base. He struggled last year hitting .227/.289/.308. Jorge Bonifacio won the last spot in the lineup after putting up a .351 OBP. He will start in LF with Whit taking over in RF. Andrew Susac beat out Cam Gallagher to backup Salvy with Erick Mejia, Taylor Featherston and Cheslor Cuthbert filling out the roster as backups. Bubba Starling should have been sent down or released after hitting .118/.207/. 118 but there wasnt anyone that was overlly impressive so we are gonna be patient and let him get some time in CF. He hit .283 in 38 games last season. So with all that here is our the Major League team will look to start the 2020 season.

      Roster
      Spoiler

Hunter Dozier wasn't great this spring so he will split some time at 3rd with Taylor Featherston to start the year. And Cheslor Cuthbert will get the starts at 1st against lefties for awhile as well.

      Lineups
      Spoiler

Most of our minor league talent is spread pretty evenly between Double-A and Triple-A right now. Our #1 prospect is 19 year old Starter Dennis Keisler. We picked him up in the 2019 draft along with our #2 Prospect Bobby Witt Jr. Keisler will start the year in Single-A but should see plenty of time up in Double-A. Bobby Witt will start the year in Double-A and will most likely spend the majority of the season down there. Our #4 and #5 Prospects Brady Singer and Khalil Lee are up in Triple-A. Both looked good after being promoted up there last year and both had a fair bit of playing time during Spring Training. Singer has a much better shot of making his MLB debut this year than Lee does. But its not out of the realm of possibility if he plays well and we have an injury. #6 Kelvin Guttierez, #11 Richard Lovelady, #13 Michael Gigliotti, and #14 Samit Dunez round out our top 15 prospects that start the year in Triple-A with the 7 remaining prospects all starting in Double-A.

Top Prospects and Minor League Rosters
      Spoiler

Duffy and Whit could be on the trade block depending on how they and the team are doing as the season progresses. Obviously not expecting us to do a whole lot but even as we rebuild another 100 loss season would look pretty bad. At the end of the day, the younger guys progressing and getting experience is the ultimate goal. We open up the season at home against the White Sox on March 26th.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Last night I had probably my most ridiculous individual performance in this my 12th year of my Cubs Franchise. For those following, I have mentioned before that Morgan Duran is a second baseman that I drafted in 2015 and has been in the Majors since 2016 (I fast tracked him). As I have also said, he is my Ryne Sandberg clone because Ryno is my all-time favorite dude and I really wanted a power hitting 2B with speed. Anyways last night here was his performance:

        1st AB: RBI double
2nd AB: Fly out to Left
        3rd AB: 3-run HR
        4th AB: 3-run HR
        5th AB: Grand Slam

        4 for 5 with 3 Hrs and 11 Rbis

This brings his season totals up to .272 ave, 45 Hrs, 128 Rbis and 41 steals if you need it

Dodgers (89-44) take the late August series with the Rockies (77-54) 2 games to 1 by scores of: 6-7, 3-2, and 7-6. Buehler and Stern both picked up wins in games that were close only due to the struggles of the bullpens. Bellinger was the star of the series homering 3 times.

Lefty Rich Hill returned from the IL, leading to RF Andrew Toles being sent back to AAA OKC. Toles was having a good season playing in spells for LA but he’s too good to keep on the bench and the Dodgers want to keep Alexander in the pen and move forward with 2 southpaw options for the later innings in games.

Dodgers return to Chavez Ravine for 6 games starting with 2 against the A’s (61-70). Projected matchups:
          Game 1: R. Stripling (2.31, 11-6) vs T. Walker (5.39, 6-8)
          Game 2: J. Urias (3.20, 11-5) vs J. Luzardo (6.37, 3-13)

Not a big update here, just dwindling the season down now. 14 games under .500 and just trying to get it over with.

Stream is going up soon. I'm gonna play one or two Franchise games and then I'll probably hop into Diamond Dynasty for a little bit too.

            Current Record: 66-80

            DD Record: 4-0

              ***

MEMPHIS LOSES TO GWINNETT IN AAA CHAMPIONSHIP

The ride has officially came to an end for the aaa Redbirds! One game short of the top title at their level! Atlanta’s affiliate was loaded with top notch players unlike anything they had faced in the PCL tourney! Soroka was their starter, and position players like, Markakis, Donaldson, Inciarte, Duvall and Contreras! Plus Memphis was forced to finally give Oviedo his first start of the postseason, and field a completely different left side of the infield with Munoz at SS and Springfield call up Urius at 3rd. The Redbirds would also give Martinez the start at first in place of slumping Baker. A very different looking team than what got them this far!

But the “next man up” Cardinal way, would be represented with honor, as Oviedo was absolutely fantastic through 6 innings! Only a couple hiccups in the fifth inning but handed a 3-3 tie game to Whitley in the seventh who would finish the game! But not before Markakis would take him deep with 2 out in the bottom of the 8th for a solo HR, putting Gwinnett up 4-3 going to the ninth! Unfortunately, this time Memphis could not answer, concluding their thrilling postseason run!

Many would catch the first flight to Chicago to join their MLB Cardinal family, in desperate need of some fresh bodies. They’re on the tail end of a very long stretch without a day off and in the midst of a 5 game losing streak. Just got swept by Washington, and lost 2 of 3 to Milwaukee. Bader, Fowler, Munoz and Martinez would all find themselves in the starting lineup! With Reyes pitching out of his mind great, the Cardinals found themselves up by 1 in the bottom of the ninth with Miller on the mound! But.......potential (very likely) triple crown candidate Billy Williams up and almost just as good Ernie Banks right behind him, they would remind everyone about the year they’re having! Williams doubled, then Banks homered! Game over!

Lots of positive things happening near the end of an otherwise disappointing season. And there’s some very interesting rumors of possible big off season moves involving other former Cardinal family members that would fit obvious needs for 2020! But we’ll discuss those in a future installment!

Trevor Rosenthal removed from closer role

After blowing a 2 run lead and allowing the Cubs to walk off on a Jeimer Candlerio 3 run bomb in the 9th at Wrigley Field, Trevor Rosenthal was removed from the closer role. Roberto Osuna will replace him for the time being.

Rosenthal who leads the team with 27 saves, blew his 7th save last night and 5th since the All-Star break just a mere 4 weeks ago. Rosenthal only blew 4 saves all year in 2021 and only 2 in 2020. So to put that into perspective, he has blown more saves in 2022 than he did in 2020 and 2021 combined, and has blown more saves in 4 weeks than he did all of last year.

Roberto Osuna only has one save on the year, but he has easily been the most dependent arm in the bullpen this year for the Cardinals. Osuna is sporting a 5-0 record with the one save, 17 holds, and has blown 2 saves.

                  The turmoil and uncertainty continues...

Cardinals drop 3 of 4 to Cubs

In a pivotal 4 game series in mid-August, the Cardinals dropped 3 of 4 to the Cubs in Wrigley Field moving them to 6 1/2 games behind the Cubs for the 2nd wildcard spot, 9 games behind the Reds for the top wildcard spot, and 13 games behind the Pirates for the Central Division. The chances of the Cardinals getting to a 7th straight postseason continue to dwindle with each passing series.

If there is a bright spot its that the turmoil surrounding Ozzie Albies seems to have brought his bat alive. Albies went 6 for 10 in the series with a homerun, a triple, 2 doubles and 7 RBI's, all while hitting in the #6 spot in which Matheny said he doesn't fit.

The Cardinals will travel to New York to face the Mets for 3 games. Luke Weaver, Jon Lester, and Michael Wacha will be the starters for the series.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Now that the pitcher as DH bug has been fixed it is time for the White Sox to begin their World Series title defense. We will begin the 2023 season at Kansas City.

LF Richie Cortez will be our everyday LF, while making the club out of Spring for the first time. Unfortunately he lost his rookie status as a September call up the past 2 seasons. With him in left that pushes Yoenis Cespedes to a platoon DH with Kyle Seager.

Omar Navraez takes over as the back up catcher.

Peter Sierra will be our long reliever/6th starter after having a nice spring training.

No other changes to our team from the 2022 season so we should be in good shape for a title defense but the regression will likely hit what little power we have hard with most of our power is in aging vets Jose Abreu (36), Yoenis Cespedes (37), Kyle Seager (35). Also Ace Carlos Carrasco is in his age 36 season as well but we should have plenty of pitching to carry us, barring injury, if regression does hit him pretty hard.

Carlos Carrasco will make the Opening Day start vs. Kansas City's Trevor Oaks.

2023 White Sox Franchise - Opening Day

The White Sox travel to Kansas City to start the season with Carlos Carrasco on the mound against Kansas City's Trevor Oaks.

Carrasco would go 7 shutout for his first win of the season for the Sox and Oaks for KC would only make it 5 innings and suffered his first loss.

White Sox open scoring in the 2nd on a bloop RBI double by Charlie Tilson. 1-0 Sox

Kyle Seager would hit his first homer in the 5th with a solo shot to center. 2-0 Sox

Jeremy Ramirez sac fly in the 6th makes it 3-0 Sox.

Seager hits his second solo shot in the 9th to right field 4-0 Sox.

Sox closer Nate Jones would have to come on despite the 4 run lead after KC gets the first two batters on in the bottom 9th off of Sox reliever Jace Fry but Jones would make quick work getting a double play on his first pitch and a line out on his second pitch to complete a 3 out 2 pitch save for his first of the year.

I thought I remember you saying somewhere in this thread that you had to make minimal slider tweaks for 2019, If you did, what slider changes did you make?

I did at one point make a slight tweak to solid contact for both user and CPU where I lowered it by one, but I have since gone back to default.

We came out of the break strong, sweeping the Astros at home 4-0 out scoring them 30-11 in the process, including a CG SHO from Charlie Morton in game 1. Next up was a quick 2 game inter league series vs ARI and we decided to forget how to hit and field, losing both games by a score of 5-2.

So 4–2 on the Homestand and we now sit at 62-35, just 4.5 games up on red hot OAK and 6.0 games ahead of 3rd place LAA. We will now head on the road for 10 games vs division rivals HOU, SEA and OAK.

Cruz has caught Carpenter in the HR chase and now both are sitting at 37 for the year. Jeffress has two more saves and now has saved 30/33 on the year, including saving his last 20 straight since last blowing a save on May 18.

3 days past the All Star Break, after a 2 out of 3 series win against Toronto, the deal is done. News broke that the Yankees and Giants have agreed to potentially the biggest deal of this trade deadline. Madison Bumgarner will be joining the Yankees in exchange for OF Estevan Florial, SP Clarke Schmidt, and SP Albert Abreu.

MadBum currently owns a 3.06 ERA through 123 innings with a 1.24 WHIP. He gives us a proven frontline starter for October and comes with a reputation for playoff dominance. The addition of MadBum will bump J.A. Happ from the Yankees rotation into the bullpen. We’ll finally be moving back to a 3 man bench, Tulo has been optioned to AAA to open a bullpen spot for Happ, but will need to clear waivers. Slight possibility he gets picked up but he’s expected to make it through.

Happ’s Yankee tenure is likely coming to a close with the return of Jordan Montgomery looming only 1-2 weeks away. Plan is to move Happ for a light return. At 36 years old and making 17M next season, he was never in the plans for the 2020 season. Rather then risk that salary becoming unmovable, we’ll take whatever we can get now.

When Montgomery returns, he’ll take Happ’s roster and bullpen spot. Next up, a 4 game series with the Rays in the Bronx. Manager Aaron Boone has confirmed MadBum will be making his Yankees debut in either game 2 or game 3 of the series.
