Cardinals drop another series. This time to the Reds

The Cardinals have dropped their 3rd straight series as the Reds took 2 out of 3 over the weekend in Great American Ballpark. The Cardinals were able to salvage game 3 behind a masterful pitching job by newly acquired Jon Lester.

In game 2 of the series, the Cardinals were shutout and only had one hit as Amir Garrett was masterful for 8 innings. Dylan Floro closed it out.

The Cardinals are off Monday and then will head to Pittsburgh to close out the month of July and kick off August. Being 10 1/2 back already, a sweep and the door is cracked for the Cardinals to get back into the race. Getting swept means the door will be locked. Anything else and the door just remains shut.

    What a frustrating season.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Well the session didn't go as I had hoped yesterday and I ended up dropping the first 2 games of the series against the Reds. Lost one game 5-4 in 10 innings and then got blown out 6-2 in the second game. At this point, I feel it's as close to over for me as it can get, but I'm still playing for pride.

I'm about to fire up the stream, not sure if I'm going to play 2 games or just one today. Long day for me the last two days at work, but we'll see. Come stop in!

        MountUrCastle's San Francisco Giants Rebuild

        June 18: Games
        keep rollin rollin rollin

The Bay Bombers kept rolling through the season throughout June going 15-13 throughout the draft month, finishing with a 48-36 record giving them a tie with the Dodgers for first in the NL West. This month had only 2 wins where your Giants scored less than 5 runs, showing how dominant the Giants offense has been throughout the season so far. This was encapsulated in a 14-2 win against the Miami Marlins which saw a balanced effort from all of the Giants bats, with Steve Duggar leading the way with 2 hits and 4 RBI's.

All of Posey, Longoria, and Belt have kept up their scorching-hot offense. Each player is hitting above .310, with Belt hitting a ridiculous .345 84 games into the season. He also has 20 HRs with 64 RBI's on top of his insane average.

However, this success may not stop the Giants from moving some assets at the deadline. Word from the top is they are afraid they won't have enough payroll to resign their ace Madison Bumgarner when is contract is up at the end of the season, and with most of the Giants success coming from their big 3 bats this season coupled with their lack of high end prospects in their pool outside of Perez, Bart and Ramos, they may explore some creative options at the deadline to move him to another competitor while bringing in both win now and future assets.

Rumors of such deals as a three way between the Giants, Mariners, and a 3rd team where the Giants would acquire James Paxton and the contract of Nelson Cruz, which the Giants in turn would move James Paxton to the mystery third team for a prospect, while some other popular rumors circulating involves the Giants moving MadBum to the wildcard-hopeful Texas Rangers for the contracts of Adrian Beltre and Shin-Soo Choo while acquiring either prospect Cole Winn or Hans Crouse as a result of the move, or the Giants moving Bumgarner to the Yankes alongside Tyler Beede for McCutchen, Happ, and Justus Sheffield.

          2019 Texas Rangers Fantasy Franchise

July 1: We started the 6 game road trip by sweeping 3 games in DET outscoring them 20-7 in the process. Then we went to Tampa and dropped the first two games of the series by 1 run each. Our middle relief blew the first game after a strong start from Morton and then game 2 we just didn’t get the bats going and lost 3-2. We salvaged the final game of the series, winning 7-3 behind 8 innings of 1 R ball by Darvish. Trout and Carpenter each homered and knocked in 5 of the 7 runs.

Carpenter HR counter- 36 through 84 games

We are now 56-28 on the year and have a 7.0 game lead over 2nd place Oakland in the West. Just 7 games left before the All-Star break and we should be well represented there. We have 4 vs the 3rd place Angels(47-38) in Arlington and then we have 3 games @MIN leading us into the break.

MLB the Show 19 - Baltimore Orioles Franchise

            July 15, 2019

            Team Record: 40-54 (4th, 22.0 GB)

We come out of the All-Star break to suffer a 3-game home sweep to the red-hot second-place Rays. Kevin Kiermaier is just killing me this season. At a season-low 14 games under, its time to get ready to move some pieces before the deadline. The following players are officially on the block:

RHP Randall Delgado: Signed as a minor league free agent during Spring Training, Delgado ascended all the way from AAA to 8th inning set-up man. He is 4-1 with a 3.08 ERA in 52.2 IP, racking 13 holds and whiffing 53.

1B Logan Morrison: Another ST signing. He is hitting .283/.346/.484 with 11 HR in just 59 games. The fact he can play a capable first base and a passable outfield corner adds to his value, and at the very least he can be an extra bat for a playoff team looking to add depth.

DH Mark Trumbo: At times has been the hottest hitter in the league since coming off the IL. Hitting .298/.351/.544 with a team-leading 16 HR and 49 RBI. He is limited to DH but has been hitting well enough to add enough value there.

LHP Jason Vargas: I will shop him, but he may not be tradeable. His numbers are iffy on the season: 7-7, 4.30 ERA, 1.40 WHIP in 18 starts. He is 36 and certainly not being signed next year so i will take what I can get for him.

OF Chris Coghlan: Another very hot hitter - .302/.364/.503 with 15 HR. Can play all 3 outfield spots and would be murder against righties in a platoon split.

I’m opting not to trade Jonathan Villar or Brandon Cumpton, who are having great seasons, as they are controllable next year and could be assets. Mat Latos and Ryan Madson are not tradeable due to poor performance.

Here are some interesting trades from around the league:

Yankees trade Paxton to Atlanta for Foltynewicz and AJ Minter. This was wonky but I let it slide, both starters were having bad seasons but have pitched like aces since the trade which actually occurred in early June. The Braves have fallen completely out of the race unfortunately, and the Yankees are treading water 1 game out of the wild card.

The Yanks also traded Happ to Texas for Elvis Andrus. This functioned mostly as a payroll swap and the Yankees appear to be prepared to move on from Didi who has not hit well since coming off the IL.

Red Sox traded Sam Travis to Atlanta for Tyler Flowers and Jonny Venters. They are all in for a repeat and needed to sure up the bullpen. They also traded a minor leaguer to the Mets for Justin Wilson.

Not to be outdone, the Yankees went on to trade 2 minor leaguers to Atlanta as well, for Adam Duvall. They also acquired Luke Maile from Toronto for Antonio Cabello, a decent 18-year old prospect.

Cardinals traded Edmundo Sosa to Miami for Marlins closer Drew Steckenrider. In Steckenrider’s first appearance for the Cards he broke his forearm and will be out for 2 months.

Indians trade Jordan Luplow to the last place Rangers for Delino DeShields.

Here is a MEGA blockbuster. Dodgers acquire Josh Hader from Milwaukee for Dustin May and Keibert Ruiz. Hader has had a bad season for a bad Brewers team, and May and Ruiz are big time prospects so this is a huge gamble. Dodgers are all-in though for 2019 and may end up in a wild card game with the Rockies giving them a serious run for the division.

Athletics trade Jorge Mateo and Mikey White to the White Sox for Kelvin Herrera.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

I played a ton of games today and I have to say that MLB 19 is, by far, the most frustrating baseball game I might have ever played. I have never, ever had this many losing streaks playing this game. I told myself that I was going to play until I broke my latest losing streak but it's now past midnight and I just can't do it. My current losing streak sits at six games and I've lost seven of my last eight. What makes matters even worse is that I've blown my three game division lead and now trail the Cardinals by a half game. I'm 45-39 on the year now after being 11 games over .500. I cannot win.

My last game was the worst of all. I got down 5-0 in the first inning to the Reds in Cincinnati after Matt Kemp belted a grand slam in the first inning. I fought back to make it 5-4... then Scooter Gennet hit a two run shot to give them a 7-4 lead. But low and behold I tied it in the eighth at 7-7. Then miraculously in the top of the ninth I took the lead, 8-7... First batter in the ninth strikes out, I'm thinking okay, finally! Next batter, Joey Votto single... followed by a Eugenio Suarez two run, walk-off homer to complete the sweep.

I almost broke my second controller of this season on that one. It's ridiculous. This is my second six game losing streak and I might just make it seven. This year's game has seriously made me more angry it seems than ever before.

                    july jam
After a big draft and a strong June, the Giants faltered down the stretch in July. A day before the deadline, they are currently at 56-52 and in their last 21 games have gone 8-13, putting them out of the playoff race, 4 games back of the Diamondbacks for a wild-card spot and 6.5 games back of the Dodgers for the top of their division. What once looked like a renaissance for the Giants org as a competitor is now a season in peril of another postseason-exempt finish.

Not everything is bad news, however. 1B Brandon Belt was named to the All-Star game and raked, putting up 2 home runs for the NL squad, which unfortunately fell to the AL. Belt is also still hitting above .300, however, the other 2 heads of the batting hydra in Posey and Longoria have plummetted below the .300 mark for the first time all season.

The turn of events within the Giants season only fuels the Bumgarner trade rumors more. Do the Giants feel like they can go on a tear and get back into the postseason, or might they fold and move Bumgarner to another team in contention? We will find out soon, as the deadline is just a day away.

Cardinals are sellers at deadline. Send Tulo & Pham to Dodgers and Miller to Blue Jays

The Cardinals are officially sellers at the deadline. After dropping the opening game of their pivotal series with the Pirates, the Cardinals found themselves 11 1/2 games out of first and 6 games out of the wildcard. They made the decision to be sellers the morning of July 31st (trade deadline)

The first deal sent Troy Tulowitzki and Tommy Pham to the Dodgers for pitching prospects and SS Errol Robinson. Tulo is currently injured but the Dodgers were still willing to add him to a roster in desperate need at SS. The Padres and Cardinals were in serious talks prior to Tulo's injury, but when it occurred the Padres backed out. The Dodgers were also interested in Pham to upgrade right field. Alex Verdugo has done a serviceable job, but Pham is a definite upgrade.

The second deal sent Andrew Miller up north to Toronto. The Cardinals received highly touted pitching prospect Harvey Hoyt in return. Miller will add veteran leadership and consistency to a struggling bullpen for the Jays. Hoyt gives the Cardinals the more pieces to repair a "broken" relief pitching core.

I don't expect the Cardinals to make any more deals, but you never know. Jon Singleton's name has been thrown around, but I don't expect him to be traded. Dean Kiekhefer is highly sought after, but again I don't think the Cards part with him. They still have a chance to make the playoffs and a chance to be really good next year. This isn't a rebuilding phase, just a parting with pieces likely not returning in 2023.

                      Stay tuned

                        Game 1:
                        Genesis Cabrera vs Jose Marte

Memphis would go right back to young left hander Cabrera after his first inning blowup in game 4 of the Dodger series, in a show of confidence, and it would pay off! Cabrera didn’t necessarily pitch a gem, but certainly did his job well enough and kept his team in the game. Sacramento doesn’t have the big name seasoned players like the Dodgers in their lineup, but are loaded with young potential future stars, and more balanced left right handed! Totally different looking lineups depending on the pitcher, so very versatile!

                        IMG_0273.jpg

Edmundo Sosa would put the Redbirds on the board first with a solo shot in the bottom of the opening frame!

                        IMG_0274.jpg

The Cats would get it back with a sac fly in the 3rd, then a 2 run bomb by Bauers in the 4th, making it 3-1 Sacramento!

                        IMG_0275.jpg

Cabrera would get through his 5 innings but be relieved by Whitley in the 6th. Memphis would pull to within 1 on another solo shot, this time by DeJong making it 3-2 headed to the 7th!

                        IMG_0277.jpg

Arozarena would hit yet another solo HR in the bottom of the 7th to tie things up at 3-3 for Memphis!

                        IMG_0278.jpg

That’s how it would stay through 9 as both bullpens would look sharp heading to extra innings, and continue until the bottom of the 11th frame! (Shreve and Mendoza both looked fantastic yet again for Memphis!) Edmundo Sosa (not really known for his power) would get the barrel on a Ty Blach fastball in the bottom of the 11th frame with 2 outs, for his 2nd solo HR of the game! This time for the walkoff win sending the entire Redbirds bench racing to meet him at home plate! Alvaro Seijas (the aa Springfield call up) was the pitcher in the top of the 13th, (looking great again) making him the winning pitcher of record! Another exciting finish for this team, City and organization as a whole!

Next up is Wacha scheduled to start against Suarez for game 2 in Memphis then a day off before heading to Sacramento to finish the series. The Redbirds have said all starts are subject to change though so we shall see if Wacha does indeed start game 2 or if they hold him for a road game!

                            Stay tuned
Look like sound trades to me! Hope they pan out for you! Pulling the trigger on playing the long game can be tough, but definitely necessary sometimes!

                              Current Record: 63-72
Hang in there bro! My August collapse almost killed the game for me lol. But I’ve definitely pulled out and am on an incredible run at the moment. Just still don’t think it’s enough which sucks 😢

I know it doesn’t feel like it when you can play a weeks worth of games in a couple hours, but there’s a lot of baseball in 2 months. Head up bro! Keep plugging 🤨
