    End of Season - 2021

As the season went on it became pretty clear we weren't going to be doing much so I ended up simming the majority of the 2nd half. We fought hard but ultimately fell short as we finished the season at 81-81. We were 41-33 in the 2nd half and went 30-15 over the last 45 games. We finished 2nd in the Central and 6th overall in the AL as only 6 teams finished .500 or above. The Astros lead the Majors with 108 wins while the Reds topped the NL with 103. Seattle will have the first pick in next years draft after losing 102 games.

    Standings
    Spoiler

The offense was pretty damn similar to last year. We hit .253/.320/.421 (18th/20th/13th) with 689 Runs (14th), 269 Doubles (11th), 39 Triples (3rd), 194 Home Runs (11th), 124 Stolen Bases (T-6th), .667 Stolen Base % (T-13th), 521 Walks (22nd) and 1303 Strikeouts (14th). I did expect to be better but with the number of injuries we had even being as good as last year was a surprise.

After a terrible start to the season, Adalberto Mondesi bounced back and performed about as well as we expected. Had he not struggled through the first month his numbers would have looked a lot like his numbers the last couple seasons.

Ryan O'Hearn was our best player this season putting up 5.4 WAR and setting the team record for Home Runs with 40 while winning his first Silver Slugger. He is still pretty bad against lefties with only 4 of his Homers being hit off of them. But he hit .241 and isn't totally useless.

Jackie Bradley Jr was much like Modnesi. Struggled to start the season before turning it around. Unfortunately, that turn around happened after missing over a month which limited him to 120 games.

Khalil Lee made his MLB debut after JBJ went down and he filled in well. .274/.354/.409 with 10 HR and 15 Steals in 86 games. The first of our young prospect to come up and give us a glimpse of the future.

Whit Merrifield put up the highest OPS of his career. Unfortunately, it came in a season where he missed 2 months with an injury. Had he been healthy at the break we more than likely would have traded him for some prospects.

Salvy did about as well as we could expect. Missed over a month with an injury but still put up 18 HR while getting his OBP over .300 for the first time since 2013. He is a free agent and he wants to get paid. So he more than likely won't be here come next season.

Jorge Soler was pretty disappointing after putting up the best season of his career in 2020. He did hit 27 homers but hit just .238 with a .312 OBP. He is also a free agent this offseason and I have no idea what to do with him.

Most surprising player this year had to be Michael Gigliotti. After winning the LF spot during the spring he went on to hit 19 homers with good defense in left. It wasnt all pretty as his OBP was just .291. But I expect him to get better and at worst seems like he could be a good 4th OF.

    Offensive Stats
    Spoiler

    The pitching was a major let down. We finished with a 4.20 ERA (21st), 1 Complete Game, 9 Shutouts (T-19th), 200 Home Runs Allowed (20th), 453 Walks (3rd) and 1159 Strikeouts (30th).

The only starters with an ERA under 4 were Foster Griffin and Jake Kalish. They combined to make just 10 starts. Jake Junis and Anthony Desclafani both had their worst seasons since 2018. Brad Keller started out good but fell off as the season went on. Still much better than his last couple years. Jorge Lopez went from trash to good and right back to trash. Before tearing his Rotator Cuff in September. Brady Singer made his MLB debut. Had his ups and downs but looked promising overall and then got hurt. Danny Duffy was. Less than good and most likely wont return next season. The bullpen was pretty good though. McCarthy, Warren and Skoglund all had ERAs under 3 with Kyle Zimmer and Zach McAllister under 4.

Salvy, Soler, Duffy and Anthony Desclafani are free agents while Zach McAllister has a team option. With Desclafani possibly leaving and the performance of the other starters that seems to be the biggest need in the offseason. But Salvy will most likely be gone as well and im not sure Viloria is ready to take over just yet. We are now in the window of when I expected to compete. Some of the pieces are here. Some are close. Time to start making win now moves.

      Cardinals Designate Mikolas for Assignment

The Cardinals have designated Miles Mikolas for assignment. The 34 year old had a brief stint with the Cardinals due to injuries, but was optioned back to Memphis once Michael Wacha returned. In his 2 starts since being optioned Mikolas has allowed 11 earned runs over 9 innings of work, including 3 homeruns.

The Cardinals will spend the next 10 days evaluating the market for Mikolas.

No additional roster move was mentioned in reference to the open 40 man slot created by DFA'ing Mikolas

Cardinals take 2 of 3 from Cubs. Dodgers next

The Cardinals took 2 games of the 3 game series against the Cubs, as they have climbed to within 7 games of Pirates in the Central Division. This is the 2nd series the Cardinals have won since the break as they are 4-2 in the 2nd half of the season.

The Cardinals got another stellar start from Michael Wacha in the series finale as he went 7 strong innings giving up one earned run on 5 hits. He only fanned 3 and issued 3 walks. Wacha earned his second win in as many starts since returning from the IL over the break.

Patrick Wisdom continues to be a concern as his average has dipped to .233 after this series. The power numbers are there, but the strikeouts and lack of base hits needs to turn around.

The Cardinals get an off day Thursday before hosting the Dodgers for the weekend. Carlos Martinez, Jack Flaherty, and Luke Weaver are the scheduled starters for the Cardinals.

I'm almost through May, and I'm still hitting over .300 as a team and leading MLB in most major categories. These Braves may be the greatest offensive team in MLB history.

As much as I hate tweaking sliders, I've decided to experiment a bit. I'm staying on All-Star, but putting human timing at 0 and CPU timing at 10. I'm hoping that gives me something between AS and HOF. We'll see how it goes.

Cardinals trade Miles Mikolas to Rangers for prospects

The Cardinals have made another trade in an effort to re-build the depth of the relief pitching. Miles Mikolas, who was designated for assignment 3 days ago, has been traded to the Rangers for relief pitching prosepcts CD Pelham and Sean Rodriguez.

Mikolas was designated after being optioned back to Memphis where he absolutely struggled. Mikolas will look to get a fresh start in Texas, as his chances of reaching the big leagues again with St.Louis were slim at best.

The Cardinals are getting a pair of flame throwing young arms in return. CD Pelham (LHP) is 24 years old and Sean Rodriguez is 20 years of age. The Cardinals will hope this helps re-build a relief pitching core that has been below average all season long.

MLB the Show 19 Baltimore Orioles Franchise

              June 5, 2019

              Team Record: 25-37 (4th, 16.0 GB)

Through the early part of the season and we have a decidedly lower-tier team, as expected. We hovered around .500 through early May, then a horrid stretch against some good teams basically showed me where this team was really at. I haven’t hesitated to demote struggling players - Trey Mancini and Dylan Bundy each spent the month of May in AAA.

My best starters have been Brandon Cumpton and Mat Latos, both signed as cast-off free agents after Spring Training and both sporting ERA’s around 4.20. Ryan Madson has been servicable as the closer, locking down 13/15 saves. I replaced him with Mychal Givens however, as he is declining considerably with age (38). Paul Fry and Randall Delgado have been my best relievers otherwise. Richard Bleier and Noe Ramirez were both traded for lower-tier prospects due to underperformance.

My lineup has been up and down. Pedro Severino has a hold on the starting catcher job right now as he throws out almost anyone trying to steal, and is batting above his scouting report (.248/.331/.327). Logan Morrison has been a monster since getting the call from AAA, slashing .324/.381/.528. Trumbo also came off the IL red-hot, batting over .300 and leading the team with 33 RBI’s. Chris Davis is hanging in there, he leads the team with 13 home runs and is currently the every day 3rd baseman. Villar has been a solid contributor leading off and holding down center field.

Spring training acquisitions Brandon Drury and Hernan Perez are both currently benched and haven’t been able to get the bats going this year. I’ve also cycled through 3 shortstops - Tim Locastro, Drew Jackson, and Richie Martin. Neither of them have hit. I did acquire Eric Thames from Milwaukee, in an attempt to keep us somewhat competent through the trade deadline. The Brewers aren’t doing well and were willing to flip him for a mid-tier infield prospect. I also swapped bad contracts with the Mets, shipping Andrew Cashner and a minor leaguer for Jason Vargas.

The Sox and Rays are duking it out for the division, with the Yankees 5.5 out. We are 6 games better than the hapless Jays for 4th place. No real surprises around the rest of the league, Cleveland and Houston lead their divisions.

The Nats and Braves are duking it out in the NL east, and the surprise Reds have a 3.5 game lead over STL in the central. The red-hot Rockies are 41-20 and lead the Dodgers by 2.5. They called up Brendan Rodgers who is hitting over .300 and slugging over .500.

MLB the Show 19 - Baltimore Orioles Franchise

                2019 First Year Player Draft

I have to break immersion for a minute to say I had an INSANELY good draft. The best one I’ve ever had in the show. Of my 7 picks, 6 of them have potential ratings of 85 and above. My first 3 picks are all above 90. Sheesh. Here they are:

                2B Antone Peralta
                Age 19, 6’0” 198
                Venezuela
This draft lacked a clear-cut #1 overall prospect, but I think I made the right choice here. Peralta projects as a future perennial .300+ hitter with near-elite grades for contact, plate vision, and plate discipline. He also has plus speed and the instincts to steal bases, with a plus arm that would allow him to play anywhere in the infield. He projects for just average power, and needs to improve his defense a bit, but he could easily start the 2020 season in the majors. His complete toolset will draw comparisons to Roberto Alomar if it all comes together.

                RHP Maxwell Kaiser
                Age 20, 6’4” 202
                Texas
Kaiser would have been a top-10 pick if not for a fastball that averages 89 mph. He has a deep repertoire however, backing it up with a change, slider, and big 12-6 curve. The lack of premium stuff will stop him from racking up K’s, but he consistently pounds the zone and keeps the ball on the ground. His lack of a present-day comparison is troubling due to the sub-par velocity, but his results are hard to argue with and he has the mound presence of a future ace.

                RF Demetrius Dugan
                Age 21, 5’8” 198
                Dominican Republic
Dugan is similar to Peralta, projecting as a future .300 hitter who can steal bases albeit with a lesser power profile. His glove needs tremendous work. He likely won’t be more than an average defender but his bat will make him and major-league regular regardless.

                RHP Solomon Hernandez
                Age 22, 6’1” 179
                Iowa
Hernandez attacks with premium velocity, including a cutter that averages 95 mph. He pairs two fastballs with a devastating change up that will rack up K’s when it is on. His lack of a breaking ball and his power fastball-change up combo has drawn comparisons to Fernando Rodney. He has premium stamina however, and if he can keep his walks in check he profiles as a #2 starter.

                CF Reynaldo Cabral
                Age 19, 6’3” 187
Cabral boasts big physical tools, with plus speed and a double-plus arm that will make him a premium centerfielder in the vein of Lorenzo Cain if his bat develops.

                RHP Tom Leggett
                Age 18, 6’5” 203
                Kentucky
Leggett presents the standard 4-pitch repertoire fronted by a fastball that averages 94 mph. He is alarmingly advanced for an 18-year old and should rocket through the minors. He won’t rack up K’s, but will keep the ball on the ground and profiles as a #3 or #4 starter on a good team.

                RHP Bryant Sargent
                Age 18, 6’3” 208
                California
Like Leggett, Sargent is very advanced for a teenager and may make the majors before his 20th birthday. He too has a 4-pitch mix and a well-rounded scouting report, though his lack of stamina and durability likely forecast a move to the bullpen in the future.

Last 2 games I've lost 12-2 and 14-5 to the Phillies (Year 3 of my Mets carryover Franchise in Year 2020). I'll have to keep an eye on things because it seemed like everything the CPU hit was super-charged, like Ian Kinsler crushing a near in the dirt curveball 424 feet.

Have you ever thought of playing on dynamic difficulty and once you get to AS+ you can lock it on that? That’s what I’ve done for hitting because HOF was a little too easy and Legend was a little too tough. I’m locked on HOF+ now and enjoying it.

                      Cards drop series to Dodgers

The Cardinals dropped their first season post All-Star break losing 2 of 3 to the Dodgers. The Cardinals are now 5-4 in the 2nd half of the season.

The bullpen was inefficient in the two losses as well as the fact that the Cardinals struggled to drive runners home when in scoring position. The bullpen blew leads in all 3 games, 2 of those times resulting in losses.

A bright note is the fact that Patrick Wisdom seemed to find his stroke against Dodger pitching going 4 for 7 in the series with a homerun and 2 doubles. He drove in 4.

The Cardinals will now take to the road for a 9 game road trip beginning in San Diego against the NL West leading Padres.

After letting Shildt go, the Cards dominated their first game against the Reds, winning 10-1! But then proceeded to lose the last 2 games of the series, remaining in their funk heading towards a 4 game series against the Wildcard leading San Francisco Giants! One of the best teams in the league! But the Cards were determined to show they can compete in this league, and pulled off a rare 4 game sweep in an absolute fantastic series! They remain 8 1/2 games out of the Wildcard and not optimistic about making that up, but having signed most key players to extensions earlier in the year, are very excited about their future in this league!

Memphis starts their series next against the OKC Dodgers! This should be a fun series, as both teams are loaded with big name players!

Well guys, I'm finally starting to play again more regularly. I've been extremely busy with work and vacation the last few weeks.

Currently on a 8 game losing streak at the worst time to have it. With 34 games left in the season I'm 9.5 back of the Wild Card. It's starting to look grim on making the post season, but I've still got some hope left. First things first, get a win and snap this long losing skid. How about a winning streak to go along with it!?

I'm about to boot up the stream and try and snap this losing streak right now against the Rockies.

                            Good luck!

Wow, that's awesome. I wasn't even able to get a single A potential prospect. I did score three B potential players (two pitchers and an outfielder) but I was really hoping to get a big time prospect.

                                Game 1:
                                Kenta Maeda vs Michael Wacha

Wacha was absolutely dominant! Throwing 8 full innings of 3 hit shutout baseball while striking out 8! Maeda would get chased out in the fifth by the Redbirds bats that sprung to life scoring 5 runs! Wong hit a solo HR in the 7th making it 6-0. Chasen Shreve would relieve Wacha in the 9th to finish the game! Very clean first win for the Redbirds! Next will be Wainright vs Ryu for game 2 in Memphis again, then off to Oklahoma!
