Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

    2019 Texas Rangers Fantasy Franchise

August 1: Quick update. The final 2 games of July were a short series vs division rival SEA. Our hitters were not messing around. We took both games, scoring 9 runs in each(9-2, 9-8). We homered a total of 9 times, including 2 in game 1 by Nelson Cruz for career homers #400 and #401(41 on the year). In game 2 we trailed 8-6 going into the 8th. Pederson hit a solo shot to make it 8-7. That would be the score heading into the bottom of the 9th. After Mondesi flew out, Trout hustled out an Infield 1B. Carpenter followed it up with a game tying double smoked deep into the gap. Cruz reaches on an error, Olson works a walk and then Springer rips a single back up the middle scoring Carpenter for the walkoff win! We are now 68-41 on the year.

So now the real reason for the update. We pulled the trigger last minute on a big deal to
Land an absolute ACE to lead our staff towards the playoffs. We sent 3 prospects( A, B, B) to the last place Pirates for none other than Justin Verlander! On the year he is 7-3 with a 3.02 ERA despite pitching on a losing team. He immediately steps into the #1 role on our staff and combined with Morton, Darvish and the recent hot pitching from Archer makes our staff very dangerous. Hopefully the bullpen will step up to match.

Verlander is set to make his Rangers debut on Saturday in game 2 of the series vs DET vs Carlos Martinez.

I actually had a good offensive performance last night against Strausberg. And Miles Mikolas pitched really well. Won the ball game 8-2. Even though it doesn't mean anything for my team at the moment, it still feels good to get a win.

Stream is going up, and I'll probably be streaming for a several hours today. I plan on playing Franchise and Diamond Dynasty today.

Current Record: 69-82 (11 games left in the regular season)

        2019 Texas Rangers Fantasy Franchise

Aug 15: After taking 2 of 3 from DET at home, which included Verlander’s debut(4-1 W, 8 IP, 1 ER) we set out on the road for a 9 game trip(CLE, MIL, TOR). It started off horribly. We dropped the first 4 games on the trip, including two via blown saves by Jeremy Jeffress who has just gone ice cold(ERA ballooned up to 4.46). One of those blown saves ruined Verlander’s 2nd great start(7.0 IP, 2 ER, 9 K).

After that we decided to remove him from his closer role and moved Ryne Stanek into the position. He’s been having a great year for us being used at all different times, often for multiple innings and he’s maintained a sub-1.00 WHIP and a 2.85 ERA. The next 3 games he was given 3 save opportunities and locked down all 3 games.

After losing game 2 in TOR to even the series, we had Verlander on the mound for the rubber game. He surrendered a few long balls early and our offense got nothing going for him. A lone Carpenter solo shot was out only run heading into the 7th and we trailed 4-1. With 1 out and nobody on Josh Phegley worked back from down 0-2 to even the count at 2-2. He then drove a ball deep into the right center field gap for a double. This opened the flood gates to the biggest inning I have ever had in all my years playing the SHOW. We sent 18 men to the plate in the inning! We scored 14 runs on 12 hits, 3 BB and 1 error. 10 XBH including 5 HR in the inning. Absolute insanity. Final score was 17-4. Strong finish to a 4-5 road trip.

With the poor record on the trip we are now 74-47 on the year with LAA and OAK both tied for 2nd at 72-51(3.0 GB). We now come home for 7 games(4 vs MIN/ 3 vs LAA). Big series vs the Angels. We only play them 2 more games the rest of the way after this and we have 6 games remaining vs OAK.

First Year Player Draft - 2020

The 2020 draft has come and gone and it looks like it could go down as one of the best in Royals history.

          Spoiler

Update on the players selected in last years draft.

          Spoiler

As for the big league team we sit at 22-38. Still last in the Central and barely on pace to lose 100 games. But not the worst team in the league. That belongs to the Baltimore Orioles at 18-45. Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers sitting at 42-21 have the best record in the league.

While taking a 4-0 win in Oakland (66-78) the Dodgers (96-50) lose Chris Taylor (Strained Tricep) and Austin Barnes (Bruised Finger) to the 10 Day IL. After being swept in the 2 game series in Aug the Dodgers are happy with the win and just relieved the injuries are not for extend periods of time as the playoffs are only a few weeks away.

Dodgers call up Catcher Will Smith from AAA OKC. Smith is expected to be one of catchers that break camp with LA in 2020, as Suzuki is viewed as a 1 year rental, so this is an opportunity for him to show he is ready. The margin of error is small for the young backstop as there are plenty of hungry young catchers in the system waiting their turn.

Got about 8 games left in the season. Going to try and get in at least 4 franchise games today and maybe some diamond dynasty as well.

I know this is a Franchise discussion thread, but much appreciated is the support I've gotten on my stream. I just got affiliated yesterday on Twitch. So thanks again!

                2019 Texas Rangers Fantasy Franchise

Aug 22: Just wrapped up a disappointing 3-4 Homestand with a heartbreaking 13 inning loss to the Angels. We came back from down 7-3 with 2 in the 7th and 2 more in the 8th. Our bullpen was great, putting up zeroes from the 7th inning on. Stanek kept his pitch count down and went 4.0 innings of 1 hit ball from the 9th thru the 12th. We had a few shots to score the winning run, but a few hard hit balls hit right at guys, some bad base running and a few strikeouts in bad spots and we cost ourselves. Tough, tough loss in a pennant race.

We now sit at 77-51 on the year and hold just a 0.5 game lead on red hot OAK(76-51) and just 2.0 game lead over LAA(76-54) after they took 2 of 3 from us.

With ~5.5 weeks left in the reg season, Matt Carpenter is the current favorite to win MVP. He’s sitting at .298(16th), 48 HR(1st) and 110 RBI(1st). Trout has some massive all around numbers including a .337 AVG(2nd), 36 HR(T-4th), 106 RBI(T-3rd), 114 Runs(1st), 175 hits(1st), 35 SB(4th). He’s also been a stud in CF when I needed him to be since my corner OF defense has been very poor. I think if he had a few more HR he’d be the fav from MVP since the game seems to put an emphasis on the long ball. We’ll see how they finish.

We head out in the road for a 4 game set vs CWS and then out to Anaheim for the last two of the year vs LAA. Darvish will kick things off vs Odorizzi and we need a big start out of him after we just burned up our bullpen!

                  Gm contacts franchise

Hey guys was just wondering if any of you played with gm mode on where you have a 3 year window? Seems like a lot of you are invested in your teams. I am doing a franchise with the redsox doing gm contracts on because I like the accountability but at the same time run the chance that if I don't win within that window I start with another team. Was just wondering how you guys feel about that and if anyone is doing that with their franchise? I'm open to all feedback.

                  Thank you!! Mpm9

I leave the 3 year window on because I like the option of switching teams after that time. You can save before the off-season or w/e when you chose the new team. And if your current team isn't an option just back out and re-load until it is. I think eventually your current team will pop up.

Texas Rangers Season Update MOM : Season 2

What a terrible season it has turned out to be. After a really nice April and a 14-10 record we had allot of hope going forward, then it started. The losing, 3 wins in May, Yes 3. Right now with 30 games left in the season we sit at 54-78. Pitching especially my bullpen has been awful. Here is a run down on players. By the way the Dodgers have already won 96 games and still have 30 to play, incredible

C- No production what so ever. Jose Trevino was hurt most of the season so Jett Bandy took over. After hitting 265 his first year he has been around the Mendoza line this year

1B- Patrick Wisdom- 15 HR's with 30 games left but is hitting only 215. Signed him to a 5 year extension in the off-season, based on his A ability.

2B- Roughned Odor- Solid Season hitting 285 with 15 HR's

SS- Elvis Andrus- Terrible April and May saw him hit under 200 for 2 months. He is now up to 280 with only 5 HR's. Big disappointment overall. Started hitting way to late

3B- My big acquisition in the off-season was Anthony Rendon. 10 Year contract and he has not disappointed. Currently 3rd in AL in hitting. 336 with 23 HR's and 80 RBI's

LF- A mess. Found a young 20 year old named Fernando Salazar. Showed flashes, but hit a wall

CF- Another mess. Jose Pirela is a 250 hitter and Aaron Altehr is hitting under 220. Where is Gallo, Deshields, Traded last season by the computer without my say so

RF- Horrible season for the 210 hitting Nomar Mazara

DH- Ronald Torreyes. 280 hitter, Solid little player.

So you can see why I am having trouble. Rendon is a 1 man show with a little help from Odor. Elvis started hitting way to late and Mazara has been awful all season

                      Pitching
                      1. Minor- signed 5 year extension. Only starter having a good season 3.4 ERA

                      2. Smyley- Following a 17 win season he has struggled. 4.5 ERA

                      3. Volquez- Old vet with a mid 4 ERA

                      4. Casey Coleman- Aquired in a July Trade

                      5. Lance Lynn- Nothing special

Bullpen has over a 5 ERA. Leclerc has a 5 ERA and Vizcaino a guy I gave a 8 year contract to is over 7.

Bottom line is heading in to end of season I have to find

                      1. Center Fielder with speed
                      2. Bullpen Help
                      3. A quality starter. Got Roark in offseason. He was so bad I traded him in July for a back up OF in Kevin Pillar

                      Build around Rendon, Odor.

Hey man thanks a lot for that info...I thought once they fired you that was it. I've see this screen once with a past franchise but didn't know you could just keep reloading. I like to be honest with myself but at the same time putting in all that work to build and then lose the franchise kinda sucks.

Cardinals getting hot...cut wildcard deficit to 6 games

The Cardinals are getting hot at a good time, although possibly too late, but the Cardinals have won their 4th in row and now 6 of their last 8 after defeating the Marlins last night. The Cardinals have cut their deficit in the wildcard to 6 games behind the Cubs with about 3 weeks left in the regular season.

The Cardinals are making one last effort to reach their 7th straight postseason, although it will have to be as a wildcard team, as the task of making up 15 games to the Pirates in the last 20 or so games, is nearly impossible. But if this team can somehow find its way into the postseason, they do have the capability of getting back to the World Series. This team has survived the turmoil and is playing team baseball the last few weeks.

Ozzie Albies.."I want to be in St.Louis"

A few weeks ago Albies was telling the Cardinals front office to trade him if he doesn't fit in response to Matheny's statements in response to the front office's statements.

Last night, Albies had a different tone saying that he looks forward to being a Cardinal next year and beyond. Albies, "I want to be in St.Louis next year. I want to be a Cardinal until I decide to stop playing this game, or the game tells me I need to stop playing. This fanbase is incredible. This organization is incredible. Yes, some things were said out of frustration. Yes, I felt like the scapegoat. But Mike (Matheny) and I talked. I know now, that he wasn't purposely singling me out, but rather using me as an example in a point he was trying to make. He apologized and said that he should've never mentioned a player by name. We good. I look forward to these next few weeks and returning to the playoffs. I look forward to next year making a run at the division. (in response to long term deal) I want to be a Cardinal...period. I like it here. Scratch that...I love it here. If we do the long term deal this offseason or wait until next offseason, that is fine by me. I understand the business side of things. If its in the best interest of the club to do arbitration this year and then negotiate next year that's what I want to do. If they will have me, I would love to retire a Cardinal."

Judging from the fans Ozzie, I think its safe to say they want you.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

6 Games to play boys! Two three game sets left in the regular season. As much as I'm tempted to watch a few post season games, I'm more than likely going to be just simulating the entire post season to see who the winner is, and get a move on to year 2.

Stream is going up shortly. I'm only playing Franchise today.

Hey all! Don't know who will care, but I've decided to start a brand new New York Mets Franchise. They're my favorite team [feel bad for me please] so I usually try to make them compete and contenders every time I boot them up. They perform so much better on paper/in the Show then in real life, it's a legit curse. So this time, I decided that I want to rebuild them. Sorry Brodie, but I got a lot of moves to counter. I've yet to start it, but these are the moves I'm planning on doing; I will update once it's started! Feel free to follow along

                              DFA/Release:
                              Robinson Cano
                              Todd Frazier
                              Gregor Blanco
                              Luis Avilan
                              Hector Santiago
                              Rajai Davis

                              Planning to Trade:
                              Jacob deGrom

                              Planning to Build Around:
                              Brandon Nimmo
                              Michael Conforto
                              Pete Alonso
                              Jeff McNeil
                              Steven Matz
                              Seth Lugo
                              Brett Baty
                              Amed Rosario/Andres Gimenez

I'm sorry but I just don't want Cano on this team and I don't think anyone else in their right mind will take him, and I like to play somewhat realistically [even if DFA'ing him is pretty unrealistic]. Same with Frazier, don't care for him. The others are just stopgap veterans who I don't care to have.

I'm planning to overhaul my rotation and bullpen almost completely. deGoat deserves better and I'm over Thor to be perfectly honest, and I never cared for the Diaz trade. I don't believe in trading highly touted prospects for a job that literally anyone can fill - relievers are the most inconsistent players in baseball and it seems like every year a new "elite" closer emerges just to fall off again afterwards. [Obviously they're great athletes and way better than I am, I just am sad to see Kelenic go haha].

Nimmo always 100% of the time develops into a freaking stud when I play with the Mets, and Alonso is actually a god so I'm planning on keeping them as long term Mets. The others, I'm going to be hit or miss with. I am a personal fan of Conforto but he sometimes stinks in the game, though usually he's pretty good. Same with McNeil, who I don't think has accurate attributes yet, dude can flat out rake. Matz is always consistent for me in the mid 3.00 ERA range so I will look to keep him for a while and I think Lugo will serve as my short term closer for now, though I may just do closer by committee. As for the SS scenario, whoever performs better, they're both really hard to gauge in The Show. Also if Smith is what he is irl, then I might make him my everyday OF, otherwise he's riding the bench until free agency.

Probably going to look at some veteran FA pickups as stopgaps, such as the Hecch and Gomez deals, but looking forward to actually having some bad years with the Mets in game. I enjoy picking apart a team and putting it back together, so I'm looking to turn this around quickly.

2019 Dodgers (99-51) take the mid September series at home against the Mariners (83-66) 2 games to 1 by scores of 5-9, 2-1, and 2-1. Julio Urias and Ross Stripling pick up a win a piece, Jansen notches 2 saves and Kenta Maeda takes the lone L.

3 games left in the homestand against the Padres. Kershaw, Stern, and Buehler are the projected starters for LA as they look for win 100 on the season.

In AA action the Tulsa Drillers sweep the Midland RockHounds for the Texas League Championship. Dennis Santana, Daniel Corcino, and Andrew Sopko all earned wins.
