Cardinals looking for trade partner for either Paul DeJong or Yairo Munoz

The Cardinals are searching the market for a trade partner for either Paul DeJong or Yairo Munoz. The Cardinals have a bit of a cluster in MLB ready infielders, and have a good crop of guys on the cusp of being MLB ready and prospects infielders in the pipeline. The Cardinals have been evaluating both Munoz and DeJong during the Spring to see which one would emerge as the likely back up infielder alongside Greg Garcia, who is expected to break camp as the other bench player, primarily because he hits from the left side.

The Cardinals are more interested in trading Munoz over DeJong for a couple of reasons, the biggest of which being that DeJong has produced at the big league level whereas Munoz has struggled, and that DeJong is an option at first base.

Still, the Cardinals are looking for the best return for either player. Cardinals are simply looking for the best prospect they could get at any position.

Cardinals and Braves working on deal for Yairo Munoz

The Cardinals and Braves have started discussing a deal that will sent Yairo Munoz to the Braves. The Cardinals target is Floyd East, a 19 year old SS the Braves drafted a year ago. East is currently with the Braves single A squad. He has the glove, arm, and footwork that you want in a SS, but his bat needs to catch up.

It's expected that the Braves are wanting more than just Munoz for East, so we will see whom else the Cardinals may include in this deal, if anyone, and if done at all.

            BOSTON OUTLASTS RIVAL YANKS

This was an outstanding game, and the final score does not properly represent that fact. The Yankees jumped on top 3-0 in the opening frame and it appeared they would repeat the no doubt performance from game 4. But Sale would settle in and proceed to start mowing down Yankee hitters without issue for 6 innings striking out 12!

            IMG_0715.jpg

They finally got to the Yankee bullpen that had another late meltdown like game 3! Only the main culprits were surprisingly their top arms like Chapman and Guidry! Chapman loaded the bases and allowed a Grand Slam to Jimmy Foxx in the 9th which was the ultimate back breaker!

            IMG_0720.jpg

Despite the Yankees epic 114 win regular season there was no doubt that Boston would not go quietly. A tribute to how dominant that division is! Boston will travel to Houston now to begin the ALCS! A rematch from 2018 but certainly not the same clubs. Should be interesting!

              IMG_0727.jpg

              PITCHING PROWESS

Both starters were on fire this evening! Prior got 26 outs before allowing his first hit and finally getting pulled. All though he did surrender a fair share of walks, including loading the bases in the 7th. Unfortunately Hershiser only allowed 2 hits himself before getting pulled in the 8th. It was a 0-0 game in the ninth and beyond. Finally in the bottom of the 10th LA would get a little momentum with Bellinger singling up the middle!

              IMG_0728.jpg

              IMG_0729.jpg

Freese would strike out then with Robinson at the plate and 1 out, Bellinger swiped second!

              IMG_0730.jpg

              IMG_0731.jpg

Robinson hit a long flyball to right center that just dropped in for a single, but stayed up long enough to freeze Bellinger and only allow him third instead of scoring!

              IMG_0732.jpg

              IMG_0733.jpg

That would bring up the NLDS Game 5 walk off hero Pee Wee Reese to the plate with runners at the corner and only 1 out! He would do it again! But instead of the long ball he would win it with a walkoff BUNT!

                ASTROS KEEP ROLLING

Another extremely well pitched game in these exciting playoffs! Mike Scott’s splitter is as nasty as it gets in both games he’s pitched so far. Cy has to pitch out of some major trouble a couple times but did so with seemingly nothing to worry about in the first place.

Scoring would start in the top of the 2nd inning when Jimmy Foxx would take one of Scott’s only bad pitches over the train tracks for a solo HR! 1-0 Boston

                IMG_0747.jpg

Bottom of the 3rd, Jackson would get a single

                IMG_0748.jpg

                IMG_0749.jpg

Followed by a Bagwell single moving Jackson to 3rd

                IMG_0750.jpg

                IMG_0751.jpg

Then Correa would single to left scoring Jackson and moving Bagwell to 3rd

                IMG_0752.jpg

                IMG_0753.jpg

                IMG_0754.jpg

Then in the bottom of the 6th, Boston would bring Price in and Springer would promptly put a solo shot of his own over the tracks! Giving Houston a 2-1 lead!

                IMG_0755.jpg

                IMG_0756.jpg

Price would settle down and allow no more, but it was still 2-1 heading to the 9th! The Astros bring in recently promoted Wagner for the save with Williams, Foxx and Martinez due up!

                IMG_0757.jpg

Springer made a diving catch to rob Williams of a hit. Foxx grounded out to 3rd. Then Martinez got a full count single, but Wagner would get Damon to pop up harmlessly to first! Astros lead series 1-0!

Cardinals place Samuel Franco on 60 Day IL

The Cardinals have placed SS Samuel Franco on the 60 Day IL after the 24 year old suffered a broken arm attempting a diving stop on a ground ball in a game against the Mets. Franco was giving Matheny and the front office something to think about as he was playing well during the Spring. Franco will head to the IL holding a .600 average with 1 homerun and 5 RBI's. His glove was extremely impressive.

The Cardinals are now at 38 men on the 40 man roster with this move and Jabari Blash being outrighted. No corresponding move has been decided upon at this time.

Just curious if I’m bugging anybody with my lengthy detailed posts updating my playoffs. I know not everyone is following but I want to give as clear and colorful of a picture as possible of how the games play out for the couple that maybe are interested. Be honest, I just want to be aware if I’m at all being a nuisance! Thanks 😜

PITCHERS CONTINUE TO HOG THE SPOTLIGHT

Pitching has been the story in both Championship Series so far, and that would continue in this matchup. Sutton and Hendricks would both hang a bunch of zeros and last deep into the game.

The Dodgers would strike first in the bottom of the 2nd when Kemp would smash an absolute no doubt (448 foot), 2 run bomb to center! Giving the Dodgers an early 2-0 lead!

                      IMG_0769.jpg

                      IMG_0770.jpg

Then in the top half of the 4th frame, the Cubs would get on the board when Bryant would catch a Sutton mistake and send a solo shot out to center as well!

                      IMG_0771.jpg

                      IMG_0772.jpg

                      IMG_0773.jpg

Then Williams would float a blooper into left for a single, followed by another monster 2 run shot to center, this time by the red hot Banks who has been absolutely on fire so far this postseason! 3-2 Cubs!

                      IMG_0774.jpg

                      IMG_0775.jpg

                      IMG_0776.jpg

That’s how the score would stay going into the 9th! Cubs bring Sutter in for the save.

                      IMG_0777.jpg

After shutting down Reese and Snider, Piazza would rip a 2 out double to left.

                      IMG_0778.jpg

                      IMG_0779.jpg

Then Sutter would walk Kemp but get Garvey to ground out and end the game, 3-2 Cubs final score, tying the series at 1-1 heading to Chicago!

After dropping 2 straight at Fenway, the Yankees would take the last 2 by scores of 10-8 and 9-5 to force a split as Boston let’s a big opportunity slip away. Then Arizona would cone to town and be swept in 2. Record is now 80-36. Division lead is now up to 19.5.

The trade deadline was surprisingly quiet, only one more significant deal was made. The A’s acquired Alex Wood from the Reds for Jorge Mateo and Dustin Fowler. Wood has a 2.88 ERA and 1.21 WHIP. The A’s were in need of a big arm with Manaea struggling to a 4.05 ERA so far They are currently trying to chase down the LAA being only 2.5 games behind while also trying to fight off Houston for the top WC spot.

To kick off August we dealt another blow to the Sox taking 2 of 3 from them in the Bronx. Following that we took 3 of 4 from Baltimore. We are currently one game into a series @ Toronto. The schedule is about to get tougher quick, with the 78-38 Indians coming to town for 4 games, then hitting the road for 3 vs the 66-51 A’s, and 3 vs the 67-51 Dodgers.

Since joining us at the Deadline MadBum has been as dominant as ever. He has yet to lose a single game as a Yankee or have a bad outing. His first game, he held Tampa to 2 runs while tossing a complete game. In game 2, he held the Twins to 1 unearned run through 7. Game 3, he held the Red Sox to 1 run through 6. Then, facing Boston again, he went 6.1 innings allowing only 1 run. In his latest outing vs Toronto he put up another 6 innings of 1 run ball game. With Bumgarner on the mound, we’ve been unbeatable so far. His ERA is now 2.69 with a 1.24 WHIP.

Yankees 80-36 Vs Indians 78-38 Playoff Preview
All eyes will be on this matchup a week from now as the sport’s top teams face off in the Bronx. Back in June the Indians took 2 of 3 against the Yankees in decisive fashion. While still exciting, unfortunately this won’t be a chance to truly evaluate the two with several major injuries between both teams. For the Yanks, a big bat in Encarnacion remains out for the next 3-4 weeks. For Cleveland, Kluber and Clevinger are both several weeks away from returning.

                        The Fall Of Dellin Betances
Betances is by far having the worst year of his career as currently owns a 4.84 ERA and 1.61 WHIP, both way up from his usual standard. At age 31 with an expiring contract, he will most likely be looking for a new team come Free Agency. With many arms at AAA dominating, his spot on the postseason roster is far from guaranteed if he fails to turn it around.

I don't watch streams of others, but I read thru all the postings in this thread and follow along.

Cardinals decide not to trade Munoz to the Braves

The Cardinals and Braves were involved in discussions about a trade that would send Yairo Munoz to the Braves and get back prospect SS Floyd East. Those talks have, for at least now, have ended, as the Cardinals re-evaluate their roster depth now that Samuel Franco has been placed on the 60 Day IL and isn't expected to return until around mid-May at the earliest.

Franco was expected to be the starting SS in Memphis when camp broke, if he didn't make the 25 man roster. Now that he will not be available for a while, the Cardinals could opt to have either Munoz or Paul DeJong start the season in Memphis. If this were to happen, the likely scenario is that DeJong will be placed in Memphis as he is struggling both at the plate and defensively this Spring. Munoz has come on strong now hitting over .400 and is responsible for some outstanding plays.

The Cardinals could re-engage in talks with Atlanta, or any team, according the front office, once they get a better idea of what their plans are for the 25 man roster once camp breaks in a little over a week.

Kyle Funkhouser to be on Opening Day roster

Kyle Funkhouser was notified after his latest outing that he will be part of the Opening Day roster, as either the 4th or 5th starter in the rotation.

Funkhouser has been working his way through the minors and pitched in Memphis each of the past two seasons serving as the ace of that staff. Now Funkhouser will make the move to the big leagues when camp breaks, for the first time in his career.

Funkhouser has a record of 1-1 this spring with an ERA just over 4 (4.01) in 22 innings of work and has struck out a whopping 31 hitters in those 22 innings. He has been prone to the long ball this spring giving up 5 homeruns during his outings, but the Cardinals are confident that he will be able to curb that trend once the regular season gets going and he's working primarily with Carson Kelly behind the plate.

Funkhouser is the 4th known rotation piece for Opening Day roster, joining Michael Wacha, Carlos Martinez, and Jack Flaherty.

The 5th starter will be decided upon in the next few days and is between Austin Gomber and Drew Harrington. Luke Weaver who was great last year, and a bit of surprise, has struggled this spring and even missed a chance to start due to a mild elbow strain. Weaver is likely to start the season in Memphis and be one of the first call ups should a need arise.
