Another strong season for the Jays. Went 96-66 and yet again had to play for the Wild Card game. The Yankees continue to win 100+ games with ease.

All Star selections: Jose Abreu, Cody Allen

    Highlights: 3B Vlad Jr .351avg, 40hr, 117rbi
    LF Cespedes .296, 21hr, 79 RBI
SP Nate Pearson, 13-6, 2.74ERA (First Full season 24 yr old)
SP Bob Massey, 7-2, 3.76ERA (Top Prospect)
SP Ryan Borucki 12-10, 2.86 ERA
    1B Elmer Gonzales .294AVG, 7HR, 41RBI (# 3 prospect 21yr old)

Jake Arrieta was a bad acqusition for the team and hovered around a 5ERA all season long. Injuries piled up for the Jays. Abreu went down in early August missing the rest of the season. Ryan Borucki went down in late august also missing the rest of the season. These injuries allowed top prospects Gonzalez and Massey to come up and perform for the Jays.

Teoscar Hernandez also got hurt along with Randal Grichuk. This prompted the Jays to make a deadline move and acquire Ender Inciarte from the Braves who were out of the playoff hunt. Inciarte was a rental.

In return the Braves got Seiji Uebayshi RF (B potential 74ovr, 25yr old), and 28 yr old LF Johnathan Davis (B Potential 77Ovr).

Inciarte slotted into the leadoff spot for the Jays. A spot they needed to fill desperately with all the injuries.

They did not miss a beat and made the wildcard game.

The Jays would win the WC game vs Kansas city in an epic fashion. Winning in the 9th on a walk off hr by Vlad Jr.

The Jays would go on to face the NYY and struggle mightily. The pitching could not cool down the Yankees bats. The Jays went down fairly easily in 4 games. Missing out on a return trip to the ALCS.

The Oakland A's would beat the Cubs in the World Series thanks to the A's newest free agent signing in Mookie Betts.

    Offseason next!
The 2021 offseason needed to be a turning point for the Jays. They had made the playoffs the last two years, but needed extra support to make it further.

They had enough money to go after some of the most prized free agents. Noah Syndegaard was on the radar, but the Jays liked there young staff and chose to improve the lineup.

Christian Yelich signed with the Jays for 5YRs, 120mill
Kyle Schwarber signed with the Jays for 5 years, 90 mill
Eduardo Escocar signed with the Jays for 1 year, 8 mill

Randall Grichuk was not happy with his soon to be platoon role, and was traded to Detroit for Starlyn Castillo a 21 yr old SP (B potential 60ovr)
The Jays went big in Free agency and hope it pays off in 2022.

    Starting Lineup
    RF Yelich
    SS Bichette
    3B Vlad JR
    C Schwarber
    DH Cespedes
    LF Hernandez
    2B Gurriel
1B Elmer Gonzalez (3rd round pick year 1)
CF Mcmahon (2nd round pick year 1, Rookie)

    Bench:
    Eduardo Escobar
    Brandon Drury
    Allen Hanson
    Elias Davis

    Rotation
    Bumgarner
    Stroman
    Borucki

The 2022 season was a fun one! Alot of young players I drafted are not apart of the core of the team, and the free agent acquisitions kept the Jays competitive.

The Jays would duplicate there 2021 record and yet again go 96-66 easily clinching the WC for a 3rd consecutive season. Missing out on the division by 5 games, to the yet again 100+ win Yankees.

Storyline: Bo Bichette and Elmer Gonzalez suffered big injuries that kept them out the first two months of the season. Both happening in the opening series. The Jays did not want to stand put. They had to put escobar at 1st, and did not have much in the farm system to replace the injured players. They did an uncommon early season trade.

The Jays traded Catcher Reese Mcguire (77 ovr B potential 27 yr old), RP David Phelps (77ovr, B potential, 35 yr old) and SS Santiago Espinal (75ovr C potential 27 yr old) for William Adames SS (77ovr, A potential, 26 yr old).

Adames was the everyday SS for TB in 2020-2021 but the Jays signed Jorge Polanco which caused Adames to lose his starting spot. And the heralded Prospect Wander Samuel Franco (21 yr old, A potential 76ovr) caused Adames to shockingly be sent to AAA. The Jays decided to strike.

The Jays were cruising by the AS break and had RF Yelich and CP Cody Allen represent the team in the AS game. Vlad JR snubbed again.

Mid July the Jays were in trade talks looking to acquire a front line starter. With Massey, Stroman and Pearson all hovering around a 4ERA the Jays felt they needed another dominant starter come playoff time. One with some control left before hitting the market.

Reds trade Luis Castillo SP (91 ovr, A Potential, 29 yr old) for SP Trent Thornton (B Potential, 81OVR, 28yr old), SS Isaac Paredes (71 ovr, B potential 22 yr old) and C Danny Jansen (81 ovr, A potential 26 yr old). All 3 would start for the Reds immediately.

      Highlights:
      Bumgarner 17-6, 3.60 ERA
      Vlad Jr, .299 AVG, 40HR, 101 RBI
      Bo Bichette, .282AVG, 17HR, 60RBI, Gold Glove
Justin McMahon .247AVG, 21HR, 72RBI, 28SB, Gold Glove, Rookie of the Year
      Teoscar Hernandez, .268AVH, 29hr, 79RBI
      Christian Yelich, .318AVG, 37HR, 87RBI, 16SB, Leadoff spot

The Jays would go on to face the Mariners in the one game playoff. There was a debate on who to start. Castillo or Bumgarner. Bumgarner had been the opening day starter 3 years running and was on the winning side of the last two Wild Card games, so they gave it to the vet.

The Jays went down early. 3-0 through 2 innings. Back to back HR's by McMahon and Hernandez brought the Jays within 1. But the Mariners kept on pounding Bumgarner. The Mariners led 5-2 through 4. Bumgarner was pulled in the 4th, visibly displeased with himself.

The Jays bullpen was fantastic. They did not allow another run the entire game. The Jays had a few opportunities to drive in runs. Including a bases loaded 2 out situation for Vlad, and a runners at 1st and second 2 out situation for Vlad. Both times he came up short. The Jays would tack on a run in the 7th to make it 5-3. But they could not rally anymore and heartbreakingly lost 5-3.

The Jays would not move on and despite a 96 win season, there fun season came to a screeching halt. Yet again the pitching in the postseason was lackluster. What will the Jays do in the offseason to improve it?

The Jays really liked there team heading into 2023. But the offseason is always a time to try and fix holes. The Jays had some money to go after some of the big fish, but decided to hold off and sign smaller but important pieces.

Jays Sign Wellington Castillo 1 yr 3.7 Mill
Jays Sign Andrew McCutchen 1 yr 8.7 mill
Jays Sign D.J Lemahieu 1 Yr 8.3 Mill
Jays sign David Price 1 yr 4.3 Mill

That was it for the Jays offseason. They liked what they had and wanted to add some veterans to the mix.

        Lineup
RF Hatton (1st year draft, round 4, 79ovr, A potential, 24 yr old, Rookie)
        SS Bichette
        3B Vlad Jr
        CF Yelich
        C Schwarber
        LF McMahon
        DH Hernandez
        2B Willy Adames
        1B Elmer Gonzalez

        Bench
        C Castillo (Starts Vs Lefties)
2B Gurriel JR (Starts Vs Lefties)
        McCutchen (Starts VS Lefties)
        DJ LeMahieu (Starts Vs Lefties)

This allows the Jays a ton of flexibility. Hatton is a top prospect who saw limited action in 2022 (92ABs, .359AVG, 1hr, 4bi, 7SB) and will look to cement himself into the leadoff spot. This also allows Yelich to drop to the cleanup spot. Yelich had 87 RBI's primarily out of the leadoff spot last year.

The Jays extended Luis Castillo in the offseason for 5yr 125 mill

        Rotation
        Bumgarner
        Castillo
        Pearson
        Stroman
        Massey

Sorry about all the back to back posts. Forgot to update! Need to be more on top of it. As you can see I have been playing a ton! I do one game a series on average and all playoff games. Year 5 coming up! Hoping to win a division and end the streak of wild card games.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

After losing 3 of 4 to the Rays, we rebounded by taking 2 of 3 from the Rockies. Another series of close games with scores of 4-5, 4-2, and 3-2, but this time they mostly went our way. After that we took 2 of 3 from the Twins on the road.

Over the last few days we agreed to an extension with Madison Bumgarner, making sure he’ll be in pinstripes for the next several years. He actually gave us a pretty good deal. We agreed to a front loaded 2 year 36.40M extension with a player option for a third year. In 2020 he’ll make 15.8M and in 2021 his salary drops to 13.6M.

The trade market has been surprisingly quiet. But one major swap has gone down...

In a shocking move that could have a significant effect on the MLB for years to come.... White Sox Trade OF Eloy Jimenez To Rockies For SS Brendan Rodgers.
Does this look crazy at first? Yes. But there’s actually some sense here. Rockies are in 1st place by 9 games at 67-37. White Sox are going nowhere at 49-53. Jimenez is having a pretty poor rookie season hitting 233, but he’s a talented quality young player that Colorado can use to help them win now.

Rodgers is an MLB ready player at this point but he’s blocked in Colorado. Arenado is locked in at 3B. Murphy at 1B on a pricey salary this year and next. 2B Garrett Hampson is a 24 year old with great potential, good defense, and is one of the fastest players in the game, and is hitting 290. Story is a high quality 26 year old SS, lefty killer, and can fly as well with 88 speed. Also controlled via arbitration for 2 years after 2019. Not to mention the presence of top 3B prospect Colten Welker at AAA. For Chicago, this could just be preference. Any quality young player is good for that team.

Next up for the Yankees is a 4 game set at Fenway with Boston.

          Stories From Around The League:

Yankees Injury News: Didi and Montgomery remain on IL into Boston series, day to day.

Yanks Tulo Finally Hits IL: With Urshela tired, Tulo was recalled to replace him until Didi returns. Tulo would end up leaving a game with a finger contusion. Out 1-2 weeks. Injured it swinging at a pitch and missing. Tulo: Injuries: I am Inevitable.

Crisis In Tampa Bay? Both Snell And Morton Down
Snell hit by the IL first with a broken hand. Morton soon followed with a separated shoulder. Both out 1-2 months. Really nothing scary about a rotation of Chirinos, Yarbrough, Faria, Beeks, and Glasnow. The Rays, 1.5 games behind Houston for the second WC spot and only ahead of Boston by 1.5 games, are suddenly vulnerable.

Critical Point In Red Sox’s Season?
To say their title defense season hasn’t exactly gone to plan is an understatement. They sit at 56-49. But a stretch that could make or break their season has arrived. 3 games at the Trop where they won 2 of 3. 4 at home vs us, 3 at home vs Tampa, then 3 vs us in the Bronx. At July 25th, the series with us could really help determine their deadline direction. They are well in the WC race, and a potential 4 game sweep could somewhat propel them back into striking distance in the East.

Pedroia and E-Rod are both on the IL. Both due back in 1-2 months. Pedroia was a key bat at the top of the lineup before injury, having a typical Pedroia season. 310/358/451/809 line. That’s a key late season reinforcement. Perhaps seeing his squad Do Damage against the 71-32 Yankees can convince DD to unload some prospects. Must win games for Boston.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

I hadn't updated because I have been doing some roster clean up after my season concluded, but here are the updates:

Cardinals finish season 81-81..miss the postseason

For the first time in 6 years, the Cardinals will not be playing October baseball. The Cardinals finished the season 81-81 on the season capping off what has been nothing short of a disappointing season. The Cardinals had high hopes for the 2022 season after getting to the World Series last year, but this year was filled with poor decisions, turmoil, and a team that never seemed to gel together with all the distractions going on. The Cardinals had a chance in September, but a devastating injury to Ozzie Albies, a Michael Wacha injury, and poor performance from their biggest stars, would prove to be far too much to overcome and get back to the postseason.

The Cardinals will now go to work this winter to try and rebuild a roster that ended on shaky ground. They will look to re-establish the Cardinal way, where they put a team together and only make moves out of necessity instead of knee jerk reactions.

Patrick Wisdom wins National League MVP award

Patrick Wisdom won the Most Valuable Player Award for the National League. Wisdom finished the season with a .261 average, 46 homeruns, and 107 RBI's. Wisdom all concluded the 2022 season with a 13 game hitting streak, and 4 times in those 13 games, had a perfect day at the plate.

Wisdom who is signed for the next 3 years will look to repeat as the National League MVP in 2023.

                  Tyler Lyons is retiring

Tyler Lyons has decided that the 2022 season will be his last. The 35 year old is calling it a career after 8 seasons in the majors, all in St.Louis.

Lyons only pitched in 49 games for the Cardinals this past season. He was 5-4 with 2 saves and a 3.07 ERA over 85 innings of work.

Lyons closes a career with a 49-23 record, 7 saves, 745.1 IP, 649 strikeouts, and an ERA of 3.09.

                  Very respectable career.

The Cardinals are going to have to fill the void that Lyons leaves behind, which is a veteran in the bullpen who could be relied upon in any situation.

Thank you Tyler for 8 amazing years. You'll forever be a Cardinal.

I posted this in the impressions thread but thought I’d share here too.

I finally saw a triple play! Too bad it was against me haha.

This was from my 2020 jays franchise. Bottom of 9th, 2 on, no outs. I hit a bullet to Jose Altuve, who started the triple play. Correa could have just tagged Guerrero but still, pretty cool!

Blake Snell hits the open market

Every GM/Owner in baseball looked at their balance sheet and grabbed their checkbook when it was announced on Wednesday that Blake Snell decided to test the open market instead of re-signing with the Rays during the exclusive negotiation period.

Snell is coming off a season in which he wasn't the most effective, finishing the year 11-12 with a 4.14 ERA. This is after posting a sub 3 ERA is 3 straight seasons. Snell's whip was 1.21 this year as well.

Still, the 30 year old Snell is expected to command a high price on the open market, pushing nearly $30MM a year.

Cardinals don't offer Singleton, letting him become free agent

If a unsurprising move, the Cardinals did not offer a contract to Jon Singleton during the exclusive negotiating period, thus allowing the 31 year old to become a free agent.

Singleton was brought in via trade with the Brewers a year ago when Matt Carpenter went down for the remainder of the regular season to a leg injury. Singleton served his purpose well and helped lead the Cardinals to the World Series. Singleton was retained this year to be the everyday first baseman as the Cardinals mulled the idea of bringing Carpenter back. But the plan/thought all along was that Singleton was just holding down the fort at first base until Brendan McKay was ready to be the everyday starter there in St.Louis, which appears to be the case.

The Cardinals will go into the 2023 Spring Training with the plan of McKay being the everyday first baseman.
