MLB the Show 19 - Baltimore Orioles Franchise

Devastating news out of Norfolk as preseason #13 Prospect RHP Luis Ortiz suffers a skull fracture after being struck with a comebacker in the 3rd inning of his start against the Durham Bulls in the first game after the all-star break. He will be out for the remainder of the season and has been placed on the 60-day IL.

Ortiz was the centerpiece in the trade that sent Jonathan Schoop to Milwaukee last season. He was a September call-up in 2018, and after a strong start to 2019 in AAA that saw him pitch to an ERA under 1.00 he was called up to Baltimore where he showed some promise in 7 starts and was able to record his first major league win. He would prove to be overmatched eventually, so he was sent back to Norfolk for more seasoning and had posted an ERA around 2.45 in 50+ innings prior to the injury. He seemed likely to challenge for a rotation spot out of Spring Training in 2020, but now his return is uncertain due to the catastrophic injury. We are hoping for a full and speedy recovery.

Yeah pretty gruesome. Hopefully that dude doesn’t stumble across this thread after googling himself in real life. We’re praying for virtual Luis to make a full recovery!

Huge blow for the Padres as starting Catcher Francisco Mejia (.309, 5 HR, 26 RBI) suffered a fractured leg last game and has been placed on the 60 day IL. C Austin Allen has been promoted from AAA El Paso. This is his first taste of the big leagues. Will split with Austin Hedges who is having a miserable season hitting .178.

The Orioles congratulate Jonathan Villar, who breaks the franchise single-season record for stolen bases with his 55th. The record of 54 was set by Hall of Famer Luis Aparicio in 1964. As it is still mid-July, Villar has the chance to establish his own franchise record by a wide margin.

That is, if he remains with the team. Villar is one of the hottest commodities on the trade market as the deadline approaches. The Indians, Rockies, and Red Sox have all been rumored to be interested, and the O’s have confirmed preliminary trade talks with Cleveland have progressed over the past several days.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

So I've made it through 21 games in my Braves franchise. This is the longest I've stuck with a team in quite some time. Anyways, we're playing pretty good baseball. We're coming off 3 straight losses, but stand at 14-7 which is good enough for first place in the East by 2 games.

Statistically, we have the best starting pitching in the Major leagues. Foltynewicz has won 2 games in a row after starting 0-3, and has gotten his ERA down to 5.28. That's still not good but it was much worse before his hot streak. Every other starter's ERA is well below 3. Max Fried has been the standout at 1-1 and a 0.86 ERA. Just like the real life Atlanta Braves, we have bullpen problems. Vizcaino, Biddle, and Toussaint have ERAs above 7. Minter, my closer is sitting at a 5.40 and has 2 blown saves. I'm trying to resist signing Kimbrel. I might just trade for some help.

On the offensive side, Nick Markakis has been a monster. He's currently batting .421 with 5 homers and 13 RBI. Josh Donaldson is hitting .403 with 4 homers and 20 RBI. Acuna has 6 homers and 17 RBI, batting at a solid .290 clip. We lost Tyler Flowers for 1-2 months with a Shoulder tear. I brought Evan Gattis back to Atlanta on a 2 year, 8 million dollar deal. 2nd year is a club option. He's been a decent platoon mate with Brian McCann. His average isn't the greatest, but he's proving a lot of power (3 HR) in the 7th spot.

I like how we're playing overall, but we can't allow this little losing streak to become a problem. It doesn't get any easier with Corey Kluber taking the mound for Cleveland, looking to complete the sweep. Kluber has been dominant to say the least. He has a 3-0 record, a 1.99 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP through 4 starts. Should be fun.

                Cubs @ Braves

Game 1: On a rainy night in Georgia, the Braves pitching was dominating the Cubs as Atlanta took a slim 1-0 lead into the 8th. David Bote drove in a pair of runs on a single in the top of the 8th and helped the Cubs escape with the win 2-1

Game 2: Alec Mills making the start for the injured Yu Darvish. Braves jump all over Mills, getting 3 in the 1st and adding another in the 4th. Down 4-0 in the 5th, the Cubs bring in Tyler Chatwood. Braves pound him for 5 runs in the 5th and would go on to cruise to a 9-3 victory.

Game 3: Cubs give Atlanta a taste of their own medicine jumping on Braves pitching for 4 runs in the top of the first! Braves would strike for 2 in the 3rd. Cubs up 5-3 in the bottom of the 9th, Brandon Morrow on for the save and he implodes! Braves tie it with 2 out in the bottom of the 9th and go on to win it in the 10th, 6-5!

Game 3 Note: Brad Brach took a line drive off the noggin and was showing signs of a concussion. He has been placed on the 10 day IL. Newly signed Santiago Casilla will get the call sooner than expected and will be promoted from Iowa.

                Cubs @ Brewers

Game 1: Cubs bats fall flat as the Brew Crew shut them out 3-0 Behind Freddy Peralta. Peralta goes 5.2 with 5k's to get his first win of the season.

Game 2: Cubs up 2-0 going into the 7th behind Cole Hamels. The Cubs pen crumbles again as the Brewers get 1 in the 7th and 1 in the 8th to tie it 2-2. The Brewers would go on to win it in 10, 3-2. Hamels goes 7IP, with 4k's and 1BB, Brandon Kintzler gets tagged with the loss.

Game 3: Jose Quintana pitches 6 shutout innings and Brandon Morrow picks up his 4th save in a 3-0 win over the Brewers. Cubs snap a 4 game skid.

                Pirates @ Cubs

Game 1:Alec Mills does a 360 and dominates the Bucs going 8.1 innings in a 3-1 victory! Brandon Kintzler gets his first save of the season.

Game 2: Solid pitching seems to be contagious as Jon Lester goes 7 innings to get his 2nd win of the season(2-0) Cubs win 2-0, Brandon Morrow picks up save #5. Win streak at 3

Game 3:Chris Archer solid as Pirates salvage last game of the series with a 3-1 win.

Only just played the 2nd game of spring training. The Dodgers are 1-1. Both games my bullpen has given up more runs than with what I’m comfortable. Also with all the depth we have spots 3-5 are open in the rotation. Definitely want to see how all the guys throw. Will probably have to look for some help during the trade deadline in the bullpen.

Cardinals finish April 17-11. 1/2 game behind Pirates

Cardinals have finished the month of April 17-11 which is best for sole possession of 2nd place in the NL Central. The Cardinals trail the Pirates (18-11) by 1/2 game.

The Cardinals closed out the month having won 10 of their last 13 games which consisted of a sweep of the Braves, 2 series wins over the Giants, a series win against the Rockies, and winning the first of 2 against the defending World Series champions, Oakland A's.

The Cardinals aren't without their faults thus far as they still have starting pitching concerns and may be close to making a decision on what to do with Tommy Pham. The Cardinals are said to have been in contact with the Red Sox regarding a trade of Tommy Pham. We know the Red Sox are openly shopping Jackie Bradley Jr, who the Cardinals were interested in last year, but there is no indication that is who the Cardinals would seek in return. JBJ is making 3 times what Pham is making and re-signed with the BoSox to a 2 year deal in the offseason. I doubt the Cardinals are looking for a trade that brings in a player with more than a year left on their contract to play right field, especially when the Cardinals have in house options of Corey Ray, Oscar Mercado, Kyle Waldrop, and Jeremy Hazelbaker.

The Cardinals could be looking to get back some of Boston's relief pitching depth as the Cardinals throughout the organization have a shaky bullpen at best. I don't believe the BoSox would be willing to part with any top starting pitching talent for just Pham.

Patrick Wisdom leads the National League with 14 homeruns. He is tied with Chris Davis (BAL) for the most homeruns in the majors.

Wisdom also leads the National League in RBI's with 28. Austin Hays (BAL) leads the majors with 34.

Harrison Bader (10) and Juan Fabregas (9) are 2nd and 3rd respectively in the National League in stolen bases.

Kolten Wong leads the National League with 20 free passes thus far.

Patrick Wisdom leads in SLUG % (.736) and OPS (1.143)

Carlos Martinez is tied with 4 others for the major league lead in wins at 5 thus far.

Well, what has been the preeminent dynasty of the last 10 years is off to its worst start since 2014.....my 2025 Cubs are currently sitting at 4-10 with a .210 team batting ave and an era of 4.50. Still a lot of baseball to be played but we are currently in last place. If our 10 year division streak in jeopardy?

MLB the Show 19 - Baltimore Orioles Franchise

The O’s have made their first major trade in the weeks leading up to the deadline. Closer Craig Kimbrel gets shipped west to Anaheim for two minor league pitchers. Kimbrel struggled in his time in Baltimore, but showed flashes at times of being the shutdown bullpen arm he was for Boston the past several years. I thought I’d have a difficult time getting a return for him, but the Angels were rather aggressive in making an offer less than a week from the all-star game and we were able to work out a satisfactory deal rather quickly:

                        ANGELS RECEIVE: RHP CRAIG KIMBREL

Kimbrel has been one of the top closers in the game since he broke into the league for good in 2011, and was surprisingly left without a contract as spring training began. He surprised the industry when he agreed to a 1-year deal with the rebuilding O’s in February, with the eventual deal to a contender seeming inevitable. He’s had a down year in Baltimore, blowing 5 saves and posting an even 4.00 ERA, though the Angels bullpen has been worse and he offers an immediate upgrade if he can find some rejuvenation in a playoff race. The Halos sit at 49-45 and are 3.5 games out of a wildcard spot at the moment. Important to note that Trout was NOT signed to his mega extension in my franchise as I began chronologically before 2019 spring training. The Angels have long been criticized for failing to put a winning team around the best player in the game, but they have a window in 2019 and this trade addresses their biggest need.

                        ORIOLES RECEIVE: RHP CHRIS RODRIGUEZ

The 20-year-old Rodriguez was a 4th-Round pick of the Angels out of a Miami-area high school in 2016. After spending all of 2018 in extended spring training due to a stress reaction in his lower back, Rodriguez put that behind him in 2019 reaching High-A where he has stayed all season. He has a 4-pitch mix highlighted by a power 2-seamer that he can run up as high as 97 mph. Rodriguez projects as a # 3 or 4 starter and will likely see AA in 2020, if not down the stretch in 2019.

                        LHP ADRIAN ALMEIDA

Originally signed by the Mets out of Venezuela in 2012, Almeida struggled with his health and control in the low minors for years before he was selected in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 draft by the Angels after the 2016 season. After reaching AA in 2018, Almeida has experienced a breakout in 2019, posting a 2.01 ERA and striking out more than a batter per inning for AAA Salt Lake. His slight frame, lack of durability, and questionable secondary offerings likely pidgeon-hole him as a lefty specialist in the majors, where he should land rather quickly in a thin Orioles bullpen.

The Orioles have announced that Mychal Givens will be named the closer with Kimbrel gone. We’ve also purchased the contract of AAA veteran reliever Gregory Infante, who was solid in Norfolk recording 12/13 saves after taking over closer duties in May.

First 20 games of the 2020 season sees the defending World Series Champion New York Mets off to a 15-5 start.

The new bullpen acquisitions have yet to allow a run, the starters are racking up quality starts and the offense is doing its usual of blasting baseballs over the fence.

Game 1: Cubs up 2-0 going into the 9th. Cole Hamels, 8IP,6k's,0BB. Brandon Morrow in for the save (stop me if you heard this before) Implodes again! Homerun by Mike Trout ties it at 2 and Hamels gets a no decision, just like his last outing. Onto the 12th inning, Javy Baez sends the Wrigley faithful home happy with a 3 run Homerun! Cubs win 5-2! When asked about his no decision's the past 2 outings Hamels replied, " If I can keep pitching this well and give us a chance to win, that's all that matters."

Game 2: Shohei Ohtani on the bump for Los Angeles. The angels give him a 5-0 lead into the 6th, Daniel DeScalso crushes a 3 run Homerun to get the Cubs within 2. That's as close as they get and the Angels win it 5-2. Ohtani now 4-0 on the season.

News & Notes: Yu Darvish and Brad Brach both reinstated from the IL. Tyler Chatwood and Alec Mills were both optioned to AAA Iowa.

Game 3: Yu Darvish made his season debut and pitched a great game, 7IP, 9k's,2BB. But Tyler Skaggs was a little better, no hitting the Cubs into the 7th and the Angels up 1-0, the Cubs exploded for 5 runs! The big blow was a bases clearing double by Albert Almora to give the Cubs and Darvish the win, 5-1!

                            Breaking News:
Ken Rosenthal of the MLB Network is reporting that the Kansas City Royals have signed FA Closer Craig Kimbrel to a 1 yr, 4.0m deal. "From what I'm hearing, the Royals will start him out in the minors to get him some live action before calling him up. He did miss the entire Spring and the first two plus weeks of the season." When asked why such a low salary, Rosenthal stated " I talked to Kimbrel's agent, he said he just wanted to get back in the game and pitch, he's looking to have a standout year and is basically betting on himself for a possible extension or a bigger payday this coming offseason"

I'm 54-32, playing a division rival in San Francisco and my attendance last game was 8,600. What the heck.

Anyways, big series before the All-Star break.

I'm 54-32 and the Dodgers are right behind me at 50-38 and we have a 4 game series in LA. Last 4 games of the first half

                              Game 1: Garrett Richards (10-2, 3.18) vs Rich Hill (8-4, 3.53)
                              Game 2: Joey Lucchesi (4-5, 4.79) vs Clayton Kershaw (6-6, 2.48)
                              Game 3: Eric Lauer (5-2, 3.68) vs Walker Buehler (5-6, 3.06)
                              Game 4: Chris Paddack (7-3, 2.95) vs Kenta Maeda (7-2, 3.08)

MLB the Show 19 - Baltimore Orioles Franchise

The Orioles sit at 27-67 on July 15th, and are in clear position to sell at the deadline as the rebuild continues. Having already dealt closer Craig Kimbrel to the Angels, let’s take a look at who else is on the block and what our possible return could be:

2B Jonathan Villar - Our best player is also our most tradeable piece. Villar was an All-Star for the first time this season and is enjoying a breakout, batting over .300 and leading the majors in stolen bases. A switch hitter with lightning speed who can play 5 different positions, Villar can fill a role in virtually any team in the race. He’s been linked most often to the Red Sox, Rockies, and Indians, and we’ve engaged in serious talks with Cleveland though they’ve fizzled a bit after gaining some traction initially. We’ve also discussed an extension with Villar: he’s seeking something in the neighborhood of 5 years for $40 million. Thats reasonable and fits within our budget space, and would take the pressure off the development of some of our infield prospects. Though he’s not a gamebreaker on his own, his versatility would make him incredibly easy to build around should we go that route.

DH Mark Trumbo - He’s not the fearsome power hitter he once was, hitting just 8 HR this year and slugging .371. If we are able to trade him, it’ll be for a low-end prospect. Houston seems the most likely trade partner as they’ve struggled to find a regular DH all season

SP Andrew Cashner - He’s been downright terrible for us since signing for 2-years prior to the 2018 season. However, he’s surprisingly turned it on lately with a 2.38 ERA in his last 34 IP. That won’t be enough to get us a good return - we’re likely looking at an organizational-depth type piece in exchange. He still has good stuff, so a team that needs a spot starter / long reliever down the stretch may take him off our hands for cheap.
