Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Someone talk me off the ledge: I just finished my 6th game of my franchise and I think maybe I didn’t let the dynamic difficulty level out enough (I played ~8-10 games beforehand) bc I’m 5-1 and crushing the ball, already 5 HRs with Harper and not being tested all that much on the mound either except with my lower end pitchers. Should I ride it out?

I had the same thing sorta happen. Won my first 4 games of the season then the wheels kinda came off, lost 4 in a row before finally hanging on to a win. I would let it ride for a bit.

Started a new game and I’m already up 5-0 in the 1st and hit another bomb with Harper. I can power through until the DD catches up but I’m worried about throwing that stats off

            Detroit Tigers Franchise - 2019:
            Draft Day:

The Tigers come into draft day holding a record of 29-32 which puts us 2 games behind the Chicago White Sox who lead the division with a 32-31 record. Who would have thought the Tigers would be in this position throughout the season? We are well and truly exceeding expectations in a division that is very much up for grabs.

But we are all here to view the Tigers draft day process. We had a simple philosophy on the day and that was:
            A) Draft the best player available
            B) Draft based on need / potential
With that in mind, lets take a closer look at the Tigers 6 selections.

            1. Robby McManus (CP)
Robby, is currently a 75 overall talent with an A grading for potential which could see him grow into a 93 overall. He has three pitches in his repertoire which include the 4-seam fastball, slurve and curveball.

            2. Parker Waylock (CF)
Our second round pick is 18 year old Parker Waylock, who will join the team as a 71 overall. Unfortunately he is currently projected to hit a ceiling of 70 overall with his potential rounding out at C. Off the bat, it appears Parker has some raw ability which will help him succeed in the minors, with good contact and decent power against both left and right handed pitchers.

            3. Adrian Cardona (SS)
Our fist international prospect was taken off the board with our third round selection here in short stop Adrian Cardona. Cardona is an exciting prospect out of the Dominican Republic who is projected to start out as a 61 overall with B potential allowing him to grow into an 86 overall. The beauty of this pick, is the fact Cardona is just 18 years of age and has great contact against both right handed and left handed pitchers with ratings of 75 and 74, whilst he has low power at the moment it is something that we are hoping to see some growth in. Outside of that, Cardona possesses 71 speed and 87 stealing, so he can be a threat once he reaches the bases.

            4. William Kuwata (C)
William Kuwata is a catcher out of Japan who quite frankly will need a lot of time to develop his trade. Kuwata comes in as a 67 overall with D potential. On the positive side, Kuwata does posses some raw power, with gradings of 60 against right handed pitching and 54 against lefties.

            5. Claudio Fuentes (SP)
Starting Pitcher, Fuentes could be the steal of the draft. The 19 year old comes in as a 64 overall with A potential allowing him to reach a ceiling of 94 overall. Fuentes has great arm talent with a velocity rating of 99 and 89 break, we will allow him to grow in the minors as the only concern is around his control at the mound with a rating of 35. Fuentes has an arsenal of pitches which include a 4-seam fastball, circle change, sinker, curveball and 2-seam fastball.

            6. Julian Casilla (1B)
Julian Casilla is the second player in the draft we picked up out of the Dominican Republic. The first basemen comes to us as a 53 overall with D potential, which with some time could see him grow to a 64 overall. Off the bat this appears to be more of a depth option through the minors, as all of our picks we are of course hoping to develop the prospect in hopes of one day playing in the major league. If anything Casilla can be counted on playing a whole lot of games with 96 durability and could be a handy bat against left handed pitchers with a contact rating of 65 and a vision rating of 72.

I can't wait to see the emergence of Robby McManus, Adrian Cardona and Claudio Fuentes who look to be potential cornerstones of the Tigers franchise for years to come and to think this is to be added to some already exciting talent in the team. The future is looking bright in the Motor City!

Cardinals designate Mike Leake for assignment. Place Carson Kelly on 10 Day IL

The Cardinals have designated Mike Leake for assignment. Leake is 0-4 this year with a 10+ ERA, a 2+ WHIP, and he never got thru 5 innings in any of his 4 starts this year. Leake had an unbelievable year last year going 13-5 with a 3.52 ERA.

The Cardinals recalled LHP Drew Harrington from Memphis to take his spot in the rotation. Harrington was acquired from the Blue Jays in the Elizer Alvarez trade. Harrington was lost to the Blue Jays in the Rule 5 draft after a front office error.

The Cardinals also placed Carson Kelly back on the 10 Day IL after suffering a forearm strain in Saturday's game against the Giants. Kelly was removed in the 1st inning after coming up lame attempting to throw out Lorenzo Cain during a steal attempt. This is Kelly's 2nd stint on the IL this year. He was just activated not a week ago.

The Cardinals recalled Andrew Knizer from Memphis to take his roster spot. Francisco Pena will be the primary backstop until Kelly returns.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Ended up restarting my Yankees franchise with OSFM/FM19. The ‘best OSFM ever’ stuff kinda got me lol. Guess if I plan to carry it over in the future it makes sense to have the best minors roster. Thought about replaying all the games but I decided to ‘cheat’ a bit on the play every game thing and just quick manage back to where I was, April 16th. At least I was still controlling all player usage. Roster is basically the same. Only difference is I traded Gio Gonzales to the Pirates and signed Keuchel to be our #5 instead. Was fair and took the worst player in their organization I could find in return. We ended up having to give him 11M to avoid committing to him beyond 1 season.

At April 22nd now, record is 15-6. Swept the 2 game series vs Boston and split a 4 game set with KC. That’s good for 1st place in the AL East, with Tampa trailing by 3.5 and Boston in 3rd 5.5 behind. Next up is a road trip out west to face the Angels, Giants, and Diamondbacks.

                  Stories From Around The League:
Angels Off To Blazing Hot Start
Angels are off to a 17-6 start, already amassing a 5 game lead in the AL West.

Ronald Acuna Jr Out For Season
Young Braves Star Ronald Acuna’s second season is already over as he tore his Achilles tendon. Crushing news for Braves fans, who won’t see their rookie of the year award winner back until 2020.

                  Braves Season In Danger Early?
The Braves season could not have started much worse, as they have dug themselves a massive hole to get out of with a record of 3-19. A lot of baseball left to play, but you have to wonder if they’ll ever be able to recover if they don’t turn it around fast. They already sit 13.5 games out of first in the NL East.

Pulled even again at 16-16. Split the series with San Diego.

                    SD 0 3 0
                    ATL. 1 4 0

Kiki Tran, just up from AAA, knocked in the game winning run. Marvin King got sent down. Newcomb went to 3-3 striking out 7 and walking 1. With Arodys Vizcaino having season ending surgery it’s closer by committee, Minter, Blocker, Venters. Minter picked up his 2 save. On the road to Miami. They’ve assured me they are a piece of cake. I don’t like to fly so I’ll be going Uber.

MLB the Show 19 - Baltimore Orioles Franchise

                      July 1, 2019

We end the month of June on a positive note, winning 3 of our last 5 heading into July. The O’s welcomed Manny Machado back to Baltimore on the 25th. His welcome was lukewarm from a weak crowd of 15,000, but he drew a raucous cheer when he grounded into a double play to end the first inning. He is having a terrible first year for the Pads, slashing ~.200/.280/.320. Their record isn’t as bad as ours, but they were hapless in our short 2 game series, which we swept. Dillon Tate would take a shutout into the 9th in Game 1. He has electrified the pitching staff since getting the call from AAA, posting a 2.08 ERA in 21.2 IP over his first 3 major league starts. We’d win game 2 by a score of 12-4.

Indians came to town next - we’d win Game 1 to post our second 3-game winning streak in 2 weeks but fall in games 2 and 3. Dylan Bundy was torched for 7 runs in game 3, failing to escape the first inning. I am unsure how Bundy fits into our future plans at this point. He’s still 2+ years from free agency, but his trade value is practically nonexistant. He does me no good in the minors and honestly, we have noone better to replace him. He is a placeholder for now, but I’ll cross my fingers that he can somehow turn it around next season.

We are 6 days from the all-star break, and Jonathan Villar is locked in a virtual tie with Royals hit king Whit Merrifield for votes among AL second basemen. Villar continues to have a career year at age 27, batting .301/.369/.443 with 8 dingers and leading the league in stolen bases by a considerable margin. Altuve had been anointed as the starter, but he broke his shin in June and has been on the shelf since.

Villar’s breakout forces us into an awkward position. Trade him or not? At this point we’d get a considerable haul. He’s one of the top second baseman in the league, a switch hitter batting over .300, can play all 4 infield positions plus centerfield, and his speed is absolutely deadly. He’d be valuable to a playoff team as a starter or a super utility man. On top of that, he’d be under team control through 2020. With Kimbrel, Trumbo, and Cashner all having down years they’d net me weak returns (if anything at all). Villar is my best chance to land a really good prospect or two.

The other option is extending him. Villar would fit easily into our future plans and is still just 27. Signing him to an extension would lock down my middle infield with him and Richie Martin, who is neck and neck with Vlad Jr for AL ROY consideration and looks like he could develop into a gold-glove SS with 20 HR pop. Despite the Chris Davis and Cobb contracts I have adequate budget to make this happen (the majority of my roster is comprised of pre-arb players making < $1 M). Its a good position to be in, but a difficult decision. Trading Villar feels like a step backwards for a team that is starved for major league talent as it is.

We plan to discuss the asking price on a 5-year extension with him after the all-star break before making a decision.

                        Cardinals outright release Mike Leake

Just one day after designating him for assignment, the Cardinals have outright released SP Mike Leake. Leake was 0-4 thru 4 starts this year with a 10+ ERA and a 2+ WHIP. He hadn't pitched past the 5th inning in any start this year.

Leake was re-signed in the offseason after going 13-5 last year with a 3.18 ERA. The Cardinals were hoping he would be a solid/reliable arm in the rotation, but that didn't happen.

The Cardinals looked at the trade market for Leake, but there was nothing there of significance. Leake will now be free to choose to a team to sign with, should he receive any offers.

Yeah he struggled in Spring Training as well, but I held on hoping he could find his form from last year, but it never happened.

Trade market was weak so I just let him go. Hopefully he gets picked up so I don't have to pay $2.2M to him.

My 2025 Cubs avoided an opening series sweep at the hand of the Brewers by putting together a 4 run 9th inning and winning the game 6-5. We trailed the entire game after giving up 3 in the first.

We now sit at 1-3 in 2025 after dropping a 4-3 decision to Cincy in extra innings. Kris Bryant is currently 1 for 17 on the young season with 6 k's. I'm ready for the statistical correction for Kris. Someone is gonna pay and Kris will have a ridiculous 10 for 15 series to get to his career norms

There are some positives despite the 1-3 slow start. Rolando Higgins (Basically my Kenny Lofton/Vince Coleman clone) has had a bounce back start after struggling to the tune of .a 254/.347/.274 slash in 2024. He did have 80 steals despite the struggles at the plate. From 2019-2023, he was my sparkplug lead off guy that usually hit over .300 and was on base over .400. He has also led the league in steals each year and had an incredible 125 steal season in 2020. It got so bad in 2024 that I had to take him out vs Lefties and bat him 9th. Currently his is hitting .500 after 4 games and already has 5 steals.
