Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

I like reading all the summaries. It's interesting to read the storylines people come up with and also the way other people play their franchises.

I don't watch the streams though only because I play every game in my franchise so I don't have enough time.

OSWAT MAKES UP FOR HORRIBLE OUTING AGAINST CLEVELAND

Oswalt silenced all doubts stemming from his very short outing in game 2 of the ALDS against Cleveland with a very strong start here vs Boston. And Houston’s offense seems to always have an answer when they are needed. Meanwhile Boston has struggled to string anything together in this series so far. Bagwell is flat out unstoppable hitting another HR in this one. Springer and Altuve each logged another as well. Boston could only scratch 1 across in this one losing by a final of 6-1, and now trail in the series 2-0 heading to Fenway. You have to think game 3 is a must win for the Redsox as going down 3-0 would seem like certain doom.

          SERIES SHIFTS TO CHICAGO

Kershaw would now be given his chance to rebound from the beating he took at the hands of the Giants in Game 3 of the NLDS. Sandburg would take him deep as the first batter he faced putting the Cubs up early 1-0!

          IMG_0802.jpg

          IMG_0803.jpg

After that he would settle down and throw 7 strong innings allowing only 4 total hits! In the top of the 2nd the Dodgers would respond with a 2 run shot to left by Turner who’s having a fantastic postseason so far as well!

          IMG_0804.jpg

That would be all for the scoring until the top of the 6th inning. Darvish would walk Reese with one out, then get Snider to ground to Bryant at third for what appeared to be a sure DP to end the inning, but Bryant couldn’t field it cleanly and was late even with the throw to first. Then Piazza would work a walk loading the bases for Matt Kemp with 1 out! Chicago would bring in Jenkins for Darvish.

          IMG_0805.jpg

          IMG_0806.jpg

          IMG_0807.jpg

Kemp hit a long fly ball to the track in deep right allowing Reese to score easily! Dodgers now lead 3-1!

          IMG_0808.jpg

Garvey would ground out to end the inning.

          IMG_0809.jpg

Happ would get his first hit of the postseason with a single to start the bottom of the 8th.

          IMG_0810.jpg

          IMG_0811.jpg

That would be all for Kershaw as Jansen would come in as relief. Javy Baez pinch hit for Jenkins.

Jansen struck out both Baez and Descalso on nasty sliders, but walked Sandberg. Runners at 1st and 2nd with 2 outs and Bryant up! Bryant singles to left center scoring Happ!

          IMG_0813.jpg

          IMG_0814.jpg

3-2 Dodgers, runners on 1st and 2nd still 2 outs with NL MVP/ Triple Crown winner Williams up! LA brings in Pedro Baez

          IMG_0815.jpg

Williams hit it hard but lined out to Snider in Center ending the rally! Cishek would shut down LA in order in the 9th. Then Gagne would finally get his first save opportunity of this postseason!

          IMG_0816.jpg

He would get Banks to ground out to Robinson at second, strike Sanchez out on a high fastball then Haniger to fly out to Snider to end it! Dodgers win 3-2 and take a 2-1 series lead!

            Seattle Mariners Franchise: Year One

            MLB(R) The Show(TM) 19_2.jpg

            ***May Recap***
            • 28-32 (14-14 in May)
            • 4th in AL West
            • 3.5 games out of Wild Card

May started much like April ended with the Mariners going 3-7. It's no coincidence that lead off man Dee Gordon suffered a foot injury and was out during this 10 game stretch. After hiring pitching coach Rob Moin the teams HRs allowed dropped off significantly. Unfortunately the bats went cold leading to many low scoring close games. Especially with Encarnacion struggling the lack of power and home run ability was significant. Manager Scott Servais switched to playing small ball and a reshuffle of the batting order the team appears to have at least steadied the ship
            • Mariners current concerns are around Encarnacions future with the club and the ability of their bullpen.
            • It appears the move to acquire SS Freddy Galvis from the Blue Jays in April was a wise decision both at the plate and on the field.

            ***Roster Moves***
            • The draft is 4 days away and the Mariners are excited about the available prospects that could land at the club.
            • Signed free agent RP Sam Tuivalala to Tacoma (AAA)
            • Due to lackluster performance RP Chasen Bradford was sent down to build confidence for a spell with the AAA affiliate.
            • Rookie RP Brandon Brennan was brought up for a 5 game stint pitching 9 innings recording 12 strikeouts and had an ERA of 5.19
            • Sources close to the Mariners say that the push to move the struggling Edwin Encarnacion has ramped up. It's said that the most likely scenario would involve the Yankees as the two teams are looking for a third partner as Encarncion's $20 million contract is making negotiations increasingly difficult. The Mariners would be looking to bolster the bullpen and find a power hitter to replace Encarnacion as DH. One potential trade partner is the Minnesota Twins with the Mariners possibly bringing back fan favorite Nelson Cruz as DH for the remainder of the season. However barring something unexpected no move is expected until the trade deadline draws closer

            ***The Numbers***

              NO PLACE LIKE HOME

With their backs against the wall down 2-0 in the series, Boston would hand the ball to 20 year old rookie Ruth for the first game at Fenway. With a smile on his face and an aura of absolute confidence, he strolled out to the mound winking at Foxx when he passed him as if to say “We got this!”, similar to a batter calling his shot. Ruth would pitch a solid 7 2/3 innings allowing only 3 runs on 5 hits and walking 2. Certainly far from the best pitching performance of this high caliber postseason, but exactly the kind of quality start the Redsox needed! And his confidence seemed to bleed into everyone else as Boston’s offense exploded collectively for the first time in the series tallying 12 runs on 16 hits!

Cole got chased out early only lasting 3 innings giving up 8 ER on 9 hits, and this red hot Astros offense was certainly humbled to a degree. Bagwell did get another dinger though, continuing his postseason tear, giving him a league leading 5 total so far! When asked about his success so far in these playoffs, he humbly replied, “Its not about me. I got plenty of individual performance awards, but never got to experience the ultimate team prize of a championship! And my biggest regret was not being able to give the city of Houston that joy as well. It would probably be the best feeling ever if we could do that in such a historic setting as this season. Especially since it seems like nobody even thought we’d have a chance!” Reddick would also get a 3 run shot in the 9th making the final score look slightly less brutal at 12-6.

Betts had a huge game winding up just a triple short of hitting for the cycle, and Foxx would get another HR himself putting him at 4 total. Exciting game that keeps this series interesting heading to Game 4 with Houston still up 2-1!

                  WHAT THE PLUNK JUST HAPPENED?!

Yes, this was yet again another fantastically pitched ballgame! That seems to be the theme here in this NLCS! Buehler and Lester were the ones locked in battle this time! Both lasting 6 innings and both only giving up 1 earned run, Lester allowed 4 hits to Buehler’s 2.

The Dodgers got their run early in the top of the 2nd, when Lester would walk the first 2 batters of the inning (Kemp then Turner). Kemp advanced to 3rd on a long flyout to deep left center by Pham. Then Garvey would drive a ball over Haniger’s head to the deep part of right for a double scoring Kemp. 1-0 Dodgers

                  IMG_0843.jpg

                  IMG_0844.jpg

The Cubs would get their run later in the 6th inning when Banks would strike again in this series with a solo shot into the left field bleachers tying the game at 1-1!

                  IMG_0845.jpg

                  IMG_0846.jpg

After that both teams would turn to the bullpens for the 7th inning onward.

                  IMG_0847.jpg

Cishek would put himself in a jam during the top part of the 9th, with runners at the corners and only 1 out, but got Garvey to fly out to Hanniger in very short right, then Bellinger to ground out harmlessly right back to the mound.

Dodgers brought in lefty Caleb Ferguson for the ninth. With Gagne and Jansen warming in the bullpen.

                  IMG_0848.jpg

Ferguson walked Williams to start the frame, but then struck out Banks. Then proceeded to walk Sanchez putting men at 1st and 2nd with 1 out. Haniger hit one on the ground right up the middle over second base but Reese was able to dive and just knock it down to keep it in the infield keeping Williams from trying to score.

                  IMG_0849.jpg

Then Javy Baez would pinch hit for Happ but strike out leaving the bases loaded with 2 outs now!

                  IMG_0850.jpg

Wilson Contreras would get the call to pinch hit for Cishek and Ferguson would stun everyone as he hit Contreras with a pitch for the walkoff HBP!

                  IMG_0851.jpg

                  IMG_0852.jpg

Cubs win 2-1 and tie the series back up 2-2, guarantying a trip back to LA which I’m sure Ferguson is not to excited about. But first one more game at Wrigley! Every game has been decided by a single run in this series so far! What a battle!

2023 White Sox Franchise - End of July

Sox continue to lead baseball with a .291 average as a team, 4th in runs scored at 501 and 21st in Homers with 107

Pitching continues to lead baseball with a 2.62 ERA, also 1st in runs allowed with 300, T-5th in Homers allowed with 101 and Tied for last in strikeouts with 720

RP Archie Bradley tore his shoulder and will be out til September so we called up 23 Yr old RP Ken Iwamura to take his place

With the trade deadline has now passed the Sox didn't make any moves, but there was some trades within the division though as most of the division is trying to stay in the wild card race.

                      Cardinals outright Andrew Miller

The Cardinals have outrighted 37 year old Andrew Miller just days before the start of the regular season. Miller was signed to a one year deal for $3.5MM in the offseason, returning him to St.Louis after the Cardinals traded him to Toronto at last year's deadline.

Miller has absolutely struggled this Spring pitching to a 7+ ERA with a WHIP near 2. The Cardinals waited as long as they felt they could for him to find his old form, but it doesn't appear to be coming. The market for trading him was extremely weak as well, so its possible he will clear waivers, but its more likely someone will claim him on the hope of him bouncing back once the regular season starts.

This will mean that Sam Freeman, Ryan Sherriff, and Corey Littrell will be battling for the 2nd left hander role in the bullpen.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

                            WINTER IS COMING

Game time temperature for Game 4 was a brisk 39 degrees with rain and 10mph winds blowing in from center. Definitely not ideal baseball weather. But the game must be played and it’s a harsh reminder that one way or another this season will end soon. Only 4 teams are left at this point still fighting for the ultimate prize, and tonight the Astros would yet again put the league on notice that they are not to be ignored, and more to the point, that if anyone else wants that prize they’d have to get through them first!

One day after getting beat pretty good by Boston in Game 3 ( only their 2nd loss of the postseason), they would come out swinging and completely dominate the Redsox at Fenway in every aspect of the game! McCullers pitched great! Springer went absolutely nuts at the plate hitting 2 HR! Defense was diving, jumping, throwing behind backs, completely going off! Boston on the other hand went back to not being able to string anything together. Porcello got chased by the 3rd inning. Dropping balls. Foxx did manage to stay hot at the plate however hitting another HR and a double off the monster. Damon is finally showing signs of life, but collectively the team stumbled hard! The Astros would win by a final of 10-2 taking a commanding 3-1 series lead! 1 win away from clinching a trip to the World Series! Boston is out of coupons and now must fight their way through 3 straight wins or this season is over. One more game at Fenway, and if they can pull out a win, then who knows what might happen in Houston! But it’s now or never, and this Astro team looks very determined!

Random ?: I've just completed the draft. Do you guys sign your draft picks right away or do you wait. Does it even make a difference when they get signed?

The amount it takes to sign them is almost irrelevant so the difference is almost irrelevant as far as when you sign them, but you must sign them before the season ends or you lose them. I personally operate under the rule of keep your money in your budget as long as possible, so I’ll wait till late in the season. But honestly just personal preference really.
