Cards drop opening day game to Reds 5-3

Stop if you've heard this one before. The Cardinals bullpen blew the game. Up 3-1 in the 8th inning, Roberto Osuna proceeded to give up 3 runs all coming off an Alex Jackson 3 run homerun that would put the Reds up 4-3. They would add one in the 9th off of Rosenthal to earn the 5-3 victory.

Michael Wacha wasn't dominant, but was good going 6 innings allowing one run on 5 hits. He struck out 5 and walked one. But as was the case last year, the bullpen couldn't hold on to that lead and the offense couldn't extend it, as the offense left 12 men on base. Brendan McKay had just a downright awful day going 0 for 5 with 5 strikeouts. Jo Adell was good going 2 for 4 but was robbed of an extra base hit in the 4th. Juan Fabregas would smack his first homerun of the season in the 2nd to open the scoring.

This was just a deflating loss to a team that saw this act far too often last year. And for it to rear its ugly head on Opening Day, just puts a sour feeling in your stomach.

The teams are off tomorrow, but will resume the series Saturday afternoon with Carlos Martinez squaring off against Luis Castillo.

      DREAMS DON’T COME EASY

This league was born as a celebration of baseball and it’s history and heroes! But these 2 teams participating in its first World Series, as far as championships are concerned, have very little in the books about them at all! Most modern day players on each team recently enjoyed being a part of their beloved franchises finally winning and ending the painfully long drought without one in just the last few years. But both dugouts have multiple legends that devoted most or all of their careers to the city and team they loved, trying to bring home a championship but never did. This is a rare opportunity to try one last time and both are so close! Yet only one can win, so some will feel that familiar burn one more time instead. But I believe that nothing will be left on the table trying!

Cubs would strike 1st again in Game 2.

Bottom of the first, after Sandberg ground out to start, Bryant grounded against the shift to the right for a single.

      IMG_0983.jpg

      IMG_0984.jpg

Williams then singled to left advancing Bryant to 3rd.

      IMG_0985.jpg

      IMG_0986.jpg

Then Banks would hit a fly ball to center scoring Bryant.

      IMG_0987.jpg

Then the zeros would start flying again

      IMG_0988.jpg

Top of the 8th inning, with Lee Smith on the mound for the Cubs, Bagwell would lead off crushing one into the right field corner that bounced over the wall for a ground rule double.

      IMG_0989.jpg

      IMG_0990.jpg

      IMG_0991.jpg

Correa would immediately follow with a single into the left field corner scoring Bagwell to tie the game 1-1!

      IMG_0992.jpg

      IMG_0993.jpg

      IMG_0994.jpg

      IMG_0995.jpg

      IMG_0996.jpg

Then Smith would get Bregman to ground into a 3-6-3 DP and strike Springer out on a splitter low and away to end the inning.

Bottom of the 9th still 1-1, Astros would bring Peacock in to face Banks. (Remember, Banks homered off Peacock to walk off game 1 last night).

      IMG_0997.jpg

Banks would ground to left for a single, and the Cubs would put Baez in to pinch run for Banks

      IMG_0999.jpg

      IMG_1001.jpg

      IMG_1002.jpg

      Baez would promptly steal 2nd

      IMG_1003.jpg

Then Sanchez would ground out to Altuve moving Baez to 3rd with only 1 out and Haniger up

      IMG_1004.jpg

Haniger hits a fly ball to Marisnick in shallow right and Baez breaks for the plate. Strong throw by Marisnick but Baez sneaks in for the game winning run!

      IMG_1005.jpg

      IMG_1006.jpg

      IMG_1007.jpg

      IMG_1008.jpg

      IMG_1009.jpg

2-1 Cubs win and lead the series 2-0 now! The series will shift to Houston now where the Astros hope to tap back into that home dominance after having played 5 straight on the road (losing 3 of those), and they find themselves in a position unlike anything they’ve experienced so far this postseason.

            COLE’S POSTSEASON STRUGGLES CONTINUE

After 2 hard fought close games in Chicago to start the series, the Astros find themselves in a semi must win situation down 2-0 already, and couldn’t be happier the series now shifts to Houston. The Astros have not lost a game at Minute Maid yet this postseason.

But they would have their hands full going up against the Cubs ace, red hot Mark Prior, while their starter Gerrit Cole is coming off a start where Boston completely lit him up scoring 8 runs and chasing him out after just 3 innings.

Again the Cubs would strike first and seemingly sensed the fact they had a pitcher not at his best. Something they haven’t had the pleasure of seeing much this postseason.

Chicago blasted two 3 run HRs right out of the gates! The first by Williams after walking both Sandberg and Bryant to start the game.

            IMG_1023.jpg

The second would be hit by Mitch Haniger who has not done much this entire postseason with the bat and was certainly due! 6-0 Cubs

            IMG_1024.jpg

Minute Maid was shell shocked and silent! Cole would register only 1 out before being replaced by Colin McHugh who would get them out of the inning.

            IMG_1025.jpg

Prior on the other hand looked just as sharp out of the gates as he’s been throughout this postseason up to this point. The Cubs would add another run on a Sanchez solo HR to lead off the 3rd pushing Chicago’s lead to 7-0 as fans started heading for the exits!

            IMG_1026.jpg

Houston would finally push a run across in the bottom of the 5th when Springer doubled to center scoring Correa making it 7-1 Cubs

Then with 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th, Correa would hit a 3 run jack to left cutting the Cubs lead to 7-4

            IMG_1027.jpg

            IMG_1028.jpg

Then in the bottom of the 8th, Morrow would take the mound for the Cubs

            IMG_1029.jpg

Morrow struck out the first 2 batters he faced, Altuve and Jackson. But then walked the next 2, Bagwell and Correa, putting runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. Bregman then singled to center scoring Bagwell and moving Correa to 2nd. Cubs lead was now 7-5 with 2 on and 2 out

            IMG_1030.jpg

            IMG_1031.jpg

            Lee Smith would replace Morrow

            IMG_1032.jpg

Diaz then grounded to left for a single scoring Correa and moving Bregman up to 2nd. Still 2 on and 2 out with the score now 7-6 Cubs!

            IMG_1033.jpg

Springer would keep the line moving with a bloop hit to shallow right just out of the reach of Sanbergs diving glove. The uncertainty of whether it would drop or not did keep Bregman from scoring, so the bases were now loaded with 2 outs for Reddick

            IMG_1034.jpg

            IMG_1035.jpg

Reddick would crush a double to deep left center scoring everyone and putting Houston on top now 9-7 still 2 outs with a man on 2nd

            IMG_1036.jpg

            IMG_1037.jpg

            IMG_1038.jpg

            IMG_1039.jpg

After Smith walked Chirinos putting men on 1st and 2nd again Chicago would bring in Cishek who then struck out Altuve to finally end the frame!

            IMG_1040.jpg

Top of the 9th Houston would bring their closer Billy Wagner in for his first appearance in the series but 4th save opportunity

            IMG_1041.jpg

Wagner would strike out Sanchez and Baez, then Haniger hit a line drive right at Bagwell for the final out! Houston pulls off the dramatic comeback victory winning 9-7 and now only trail in the series by a game 2- 1!

AAA Charlotte Knights finished 81-59 winning their Division

              AAA Standouts

#1 overall prospect SP Andre Simons finished the season 16-6 with a 1.96 ERA, 170 K's in 197.1 IP. At 19 years old he looks like one of the best phenom SP the league has seen but question is will the Sox call him up when Charlotte finishes the playoffs or will they wait til Spring to give him a look being so young and no need to rush him to the MLB?

Sox #2 and #5 overall prospect DH/OF Javier Estrada had a .310 average with 9 HR, 27 RBI in 207 ABs since his call up to AAA in July.

3B Pedro Rivera hit .325 with 4 HR and 25 RBI in 117 ABs since his call up

C Seby Zavala hit .296 with 20 HR and 60 RBI in 388 ABs.

AA Birmingham Barons finished the second half 38-32 finishing 2nd in division

AA Standout was LF Beau Armstrong who hit .285 with 14 HR and 42 RBI in 267 AB

The Mets enter June 2020 with a 44-16 record. No World Series hangover for the defending champs, who hold an 8.5-game lead over the Phillies in the NL East.

While the Mets have been hot, they're not the only team, as the Cubs hold an identical record and are up 12 games on their Central division foes.

Does anyone else's schedule not change from year-to-year? I'm in 2022 season with Minnesota and I have played the same Interleague division every year (NL East).

You wouldn't think it would be that difficult to get the schedule right..even complete interleague randomization would work. Just so you don't play the same teams every year.

                        SERIES RESET

Again this Astro team just refuses to go away. Game 4 was all Houston! After 3 dramatic and unforgettable World Series games that will be talked about for quite some time, the details of game 4 will most likely be forgotten before the series is over, except for the fact that Houston won. McCullers pitched masterfully yet again, winning his 3rd game this postseason (every game he started). Putting both his postseason ERA and WHIP under 1.00. He now has better numbers than any of the other fantastic pitchers that we’ve seen in this pitching dominant postseason so far. Lance McCullers! If nothing else is remembered, remember that name!

This time the Astros would strike first in the bottom of the 2nd inning with a Bregman solo shot to left.

                        IMG_1053.jpg

                        IMG_1054.jpg

Then in the bottom of the 3rd Houston would get 2 more solo shots from Altuve and Jackson back to back! 3-0 Astros

                        IMG_1055.jpg

                        IMG_1056.jpg

                        IMG_1057.jpg

Then in the bottom of the 4th Chirinos would hit a 3 run bomb to right center chasing Lester from the game as the Cubs brought in Jenkins. 6-0 Astros

                        IMG_1058.jpg

                        IMG_1059.jpg

                        IMG_1060.jpg

                        IMG_1061.jpg

Correa would add 2 more in the bottom of the 7th with a 2 run blast hit over the tracks in left!

                        IMG_1062.jpg

                        IMG_1063.jpg

Jenkins would finish the game saving the Cubs bullpen from extra work, the only bright side for them. Houston would win by a score of 8-0 tying the series back up at 2-2. This is now a brand new 3 game series with 1 more at Minute Maid (where the Astros still haven’t lost this postseason), before going back to Wrigley for the others.

MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Well almost 3 weeks away from game led me to the same results I’ve been getting:

Angels take a 3-1 lead over the Dodgers in the 2019 World Series. Game 4 was a close one with a 3-2 score, but the Dodgers stranded 13 on the bases and struggled to score.

A rain delay in the middle of the 3rd saw Urias pulled after 1 batter in the bottom 1/2 of the inning and replaced by LHP Scott Alexander.

Yusmerio Petit earned the W in relief for the Angels and Carlos Martinez earned the Save. Scott Alexander took the L for the Dodgers pitching 3 innings and giving up 1 run off 3 hits.

Game 5 will be in Anaheim, and hopefully will return to Dodgers Stadium for Game 6 with a win. Game 5 will see Clayton Kershaw (2-0, 1.16 in postseason play) vs Parker Bidwell ( 1-0, 2.92).

Well, took a break during All-Star week. 30 team control, went thru and made sure all teams rosters are current. Ready to roll for the 2nd half. 5-5 Julio Teheran vs. 7-3 Joey Lucchesi in San Diego. 5 1/2 behind the first place Phils. Playball.
