Marlins sign both Alex Bregman and Austin Hays

The 2024 National League Champions aren't satisfied with just resting on their laurels and standing pat with the roster that won the National League last year, as the Marlins just landed 2 of the Top 10 free agents on market within days of each other.

First the Marlins inked RF Austin Hays to a 7 year $186.90MM deal. Hays is expected to play left field as Giancarlo Stanton mans right field, unless they trade Stanton.

Then two days later the Marlins signed 3B Alex Bregman to a 7 year $214.20MM contract to be their everyday 3rd baseman.

The 2025 Marlins are shaping up to the be the class of the National League and they don't appear to be done as they are now pursuing SS Rafael Devers.

Marlins sign Rafael Devers to 6 year deal

      The Marlins weren't done.

The reigning National League Champions just signed SS Rafael Devers to a 6 year $160.20MM deal. This is one day after signing Alex Bregman to a 7 year deal and 3 days after signing RF Austin Hays to a 7 year deal.

The Marlins have now signed 3 of the Top 10 available free agents on the market.

This Marlins lineup now consists of Giancarlo Stanton, Austin Hays, Nick Castellanos, Alex Bregman, Connor Scott, and Rafael Devers.

      And they probably aren't done.

      Wow!

Tigers sign Mackenzie Gore to 7 year deal

The Tigers continue their rebuild as they just signed left handed starting pitcher Mackenzie Gore to a 7 year $210.70MM deal.

The Tigers who acquired SS Ozzie Albies last year are looking to rebuild and get to the postseason. Albies and Gore are good starts along with other pieces they have in place.

This is why I love carry over franchise.

The Marlins are one of the better teams in the National League and their success has granted them the ability to have a ton of money to spend.

I am curious what they do with some of the players on their roster after making these big moves.

just curious, is Jose Fernandez still a Marlin, and did you rename him to his right name or let it ride with a new name in 17?

Orioles sign Ronald Acuna Jr to 6 year deal

The Orioles have signed CF Ronald Acuna Jr to a 6 year $176.40MM deal.

The Orioles lost Austin Hays in free agency but quickly replaced him with Acuna. Acuna who is 26 will join Luis Robert in the outfield, as Robert is still under team control for this final year.

The Orioles missed the playoffs last year by a couple of games, but are looking to bounce back and be contenders in both the American League East and the wildcard.

Cardinals and Brendan McKay agree to 4 year deal

The Cardinals and Brendan McKay have agreed to a 4 year $30MM deal that will buy out McKay's arbitration years.

McKay qualified as a Super 2 this season, so he had 4 years of arbitration years ahead. Both sides agreed to a deal that would bump the 29 year old's annual value from $850K last year to $7.5MM the next 4 seasons. Yes, if he continues his upward trek, then the Cardinals will have gotten a discount, but at 29 years old, McKay has the peace of mind that he has a home and a contract for the next 4 years or until he's 33, when he will be a free agent.

McKay will take his place in the 3 hole in the lineup hitting in front of Patrick Wisdom and Juan Fabregas.

Cardinals agree to deal with Jack Flaherty

The Cardinals and Jack Flaherty have finally agreed on a deal that will keep the 29 year old in St.Louis. The deal is 4 years for $66.0MM and includes a player option for the 4th year. The contract was also structured so that Flaherty earns less at the start of his contract and his annual value increases each year.

                  Flaherty will make:

                  $13.2M in 2025
                  $15.4M in 2026
                  $17.6M in 2027
                  $19.8M in 2028 (player option)

This allows the Cardinals to have more financial flexibility to spend this offseason to improve a team that disappointed last year going 82-80, although they suffered some significant injuries over the course of the year.

All in all, its great to have Flaherty locked up and he and Funkhouser will lead the charge as the next dynamic pitching duo for the Cardinals, as Wacha and Martinez fade into the sunset in the next couple of years.

It wasn't a sweep but the White Sox are headed to their third straight World Series. The Sox will face off against the NLDS winner, either the Cincinnati Reds or New York Mets. That series sits at 3-2 in favor of the Reds after the Mets held off elimination in gave five with a 11-7 win. Game six will see Noah Syndergard (31 YO 95 OVR) of the Mets face off against Kendrick Ruiz (28 YO 94 OVR) of the Reds.

Cardinals sign Joey Wentz to 1 year deal

The Cardinals have agreed to a one year $950K deal with LHP Joey Wentz. Wentz was added to the 40 man roster and will be at Spring Training.

Wentz has dealt with injuries in each of the past two seasons with the Braves only able to pitch in a total of 37 games those two seasons. The 27 year old was once considered one of the top prospects in the Braves organization, has never really taken off as they expected, and found himself on the open market looking for a deal.

The Cardinals who were looking to add left handed pitching to their organization, especially starters, agreed to give Wentz a chance this year to see how things go. He will likely start the season in Memphis, but with the Cardinals still pondering different roster moves, he may get a good shot at making the club out of Spring Training.

I still have Jose Fernandez in the game and he is a Pittsburgh Pirate and has been for a few seasons now.

I also have Oscar Tavares, Yordano Ventura, and Tyler Skaggs in the game. I don't remove players.

2026 White Sox Franchise - End of Regular Season

White Sox finish the season at 118-44 winning the AL Central and will face the winner of the Wild Card Game to start their quest for a 3rd World Championship in 5 years. Sox have the best line up they have had in years to lead their hopes of winning the Championship. Pitching still was one of the best in the league even after losing Michael Kopech in free agency in the past offseason to division rival Cleveland. Losing Kopech actually may have been a good thing as he struggled in Cleveland going 4-12 with a 6.61 ERA and 143 Ks in 42 Games and 15 starts for the Indians

Cardinals sign Kyle Wright and Jonny Venters to one year deals

The Cardinals continue to sign ex-Braves as they inked a deal with starting pitcher Kyle Wright, one year $1MM and LHP Jonny Venters, one year $850K.

Kyle Wright will help add depth to a pitching staff that lost Dakota Hudson in free agency (he signed with the Dodgers) and Jonny Venters will add depth to the bullpen, which was the biggest issue for the Cardinals last year, especially left handed relievers.

It is expected as well that the Cardinals are going to trade Trevor Rosenthal at some point this offseason due to him being frustrated with the fact that he's no longer the closer and was used in lesser and lesser roles last season. It was expected that he would compete with Jordan Hicks and Zack Burdi to be the setup man this year. And now with the addition of Venters, there is another arm to compete with.

Rosenthal has 2 years left on a contract that pays him $11.1MM annually.

                            Signings around the league

Haven't updated in a while so here are some of the bigger signings that took place over the last several weeks:

Red Sox signed SP Ian Hamilton to 3 year $3.30MM deal

Yankees signed OF Joc Pederson to a one year $8.68MM deal

White Sox signed OF Tim Locastro to a 6 year $109.80MM deal

Tigers signed OF Taylor Trammell to a 4 year $76.80MM deal

Angels signed SS Jorge Mateo to a 4 year $72.80MM deal - 3B Nick Senzel to a 4 year $60.40MM deal - 1B Mark Canha to a one year $10.90MM deal

Cubs signed SP Jordan Sheffield to a 3 year $3.60MM deal & C J.T. Realmuto to a one year $3.50MM deal

Reds signed OF Austin Beck to a 6 year $119.40MM deal & 2B Rougned Odor to a 4 year $46.00MM deal

Rockies signed SP Matt Moore to a one year $11.10MM deal

Dodgers signed LF Kyle Schwarber to a 2 year $11.32MM deal

As we spoke earlier...I did some more research.

You can now edit within franchise at any moment and players will still progress - MLB only.

I made edits to players on September 1 and ran a sim to end of season ant those players did progressed.

Any edits after May 31 will halt prospects progression, however if you plan to bring him to MLB he will then start to progress

You can now edit within franchise at any moment and players will still progress - MLB only.

I made edits to players on September 1 and ran a sim to end of season ant those players did progressed.

Any edits after May 31 will halt prospects progression, however if you plan to bring him to MLB he will then start to progress
oh, that is great to hear, thanks!

I think I will change closers who get called up to the majors into relievers. though I do wish there was no Closer position to begin with. I mean, this is like having a starting position choice be 'Ace'.
even though there should be a spot in the bullpen to designate as the closer. funny thing is I'm on the opposite fence side for DH's, I'd like a primary position choice to be DH.
