    Bunting runners over broken?

I've attempted a few sac bunts and each time the fielder throws to get the lead runner. if i take a larger lead with my runner, they get picked off and I don't want to run in case the bunt attempt misses. any tips on how you sacrifice?

I've noticed problems with bunting as well. It seems like I almost always bunt into a double play when I have the pitcher try to advance a runner. The contact is too hard and the ball gets to the fielder too quickly. It's happened enough times where I basically avoid sacrifice bunting altogether.

Now that you mention it, I feel as though I have noticed it more lately. I thought it was just me. Do you think they changed something under the hood in one of the recent patches that could be affecting this?

It really only works if the pitch is low in the zone. I had to learn that the hard way. Just use guess bitch for sac situations and guess fastball high everytime. If it doesn't blink you are good to go.

I am having challenges bunting with the pitchers. It seems more times than not I'm bunting the ball in the air to the 1B. Bunting is definitely harder this year, for me at least.

well before the pitch there is a option on your screen that shows bunt direction. point to which direction before you bunt then bunt when the pitch comes in. I don't believe you hold the direction to bunt because that would make for a awkward hand motion, or having you use your left thumb on the right thumb stick and press the triangle with your right hand.

I bought this up in another thread but everyone said they weren't having problems. I've stopped bunting at all. I've tried everything.

One time I called for a steal with my pitcher trying a sac bunt. My pitcher pulled the bat back on a pitch over the heart of the plate and the runner got thrown out. That is when I stopped bunting.

This was in manage only franchise.

When I am controlling the batter, I have no problems.

I might dial up runner speed a bit as my steal rate is lower than average too. might kill 2 birds with one stone here.

I think bunting is well done this year for user and CPU. I have seen both excellent and poor bunts. I have also seen the CPU aggressively try for two (like IRL) on a poor bunt and just take the throw to 1st on good bunt. Keep in mind that your player's bunt rating does affect your bunt. As Syce noted, you just need to pre-load the bunt direction. I have only tried in Franchise although I would think it would be the same across the board.

I start my PCI high and pull down as the pitch comes in . Lay off the high pitches.

I get the same results, it’s terrible. You can go into options and under “manage game” or whatever it’s called (the sim game option, but not sim entire game) you can choose swing, bunt or something else. Simulate just that at bat choosing bunt and it should advance the guy. I just realized this today.

                        Re: Bunting runners over broken?

                        Here's what works for me:

Good bunt rating for the batter.

Choose my direction (L or R) with the right stick. I just flick the R Stick once in that direction (there should be a rumble through the controller).

Press and hold the Triangle button to square up.

Read the pitch and move the PCI (with the left stick) to the ball if attempting the bunt or I let go of the Triangle button if the pitch is out of the zone.

I've had good success and have failed by fouling out.

I’ve tried it twice so far; once it worked well and advanced the guy, the other time it was popped up. I hope that’s just an aberration as it does happen sometimes in real life, but it’s better than a bunt double play every time.

This really needs fixed; in past years they had some sort of workaround whereby the CPU almost never threw to second on a sac bunt, even if they'd have had the runner out by a mile.

Now it's the opposite; the CPU throws to second quite often, even if it's going to be a close play, which infielders don't do in reality.

Because of this, I'm seeing a lot of outs at second, double plays, or both runners safe because they just missed the out at second. I use timing hitting, so no PCI; not sure if that has anything to do with it. This happens even with highly rated sac bunt pitchers. I've tried aiming/not aiming, squaring around early/late, lifting off the bunt button on contact/holding it through contact; none of this seems to make a difference.

I hate to be that guy, but I thought bunting was excellent this year (finally) until the most recent patch(es). Now I'm seeing more rocket bunts and forces at second. If I had to bet I'd say they tweaked it yet again.

They will never get it right...not until they allow defensive adjustments that will stop people from abusing it online. It's pathetic how enslaved the offline game is to online play.
