Re: Pitchers as DH in franchise?? Why
Here's my post from like an hour ago right above yours
I've been doing a franchise with Miami since the rosters came out, so I had never noticed this glitch. Usually around this time I start a secondary franchise with an AL team to keep from burning out on my primary one.
I started a franchise last night with Oakland using ridin's set and simmed through 3 seasons first thing (since I'm an NL guy I don't follow or have any real interest in AL teams and getting to shape my roster and start in 2022 makes me feel more invested and attached).
My 1st round draft pick in 2019 was a SP with A potential and was currently a 73OVR and my 5th starter in 2022. As for my DH spot in the lineup, I started the year using my backup 1B (71OVR) to DH vs. LHP and my backup CF (76OVR) to DH against righties.
I didn't have a start against a lefty until the 8th game of the year and when I started to set my lineup before the game I noticed that my promising young SP is in the DH spot even though all of his batting attributes are <5. When I swapped him out for my 1B he was listed as a RF and the only solution I could find was flipping my SP to the pen and putting my long reliever as the 5th starter then just scrolling down and picking my SP whenever the RP's turn in the rotation came.
I'm curious whether or not this is a CAP issue, I looked around my league and found the same thing happening on the Tigers with someone they had drafted as well.
And because of my particular circumstance I think it's safe to say that just because your franchise doesn't currently have this issue, I think that 100% of our franchises will eventually have this happen if possibly every draft class has created players that carry the glitch. At some point if you go enough years it will start popping up.Comment

Re: Pitchers as DH in franchise?? Why
I've seen non-created players like Steven Strasburg and Lance Lynn DH or play RF in my carry over from 2014. In fact in my franchise they are both on the same team (Rays) and BOTH were in the batting lineup for a game. One in DH and one in RF. The worst part is was Strasburg was due to pitch that day and Lynn was due the next day but they couldn't because batting.
Not sure why, but I have a hunch that it involves the quirks system. If it was ratings or any other easily customizable player data it should be simple to find the thread tying all the glitchy players together. With quirks, there are the attribute based (bomber/sniper/20-20 vision etc.) that everyone gets if their rating is high enough, and special quirks that the SCEA team assigns specifically to certain players based on their histories and play styles (rally monkey/fighter/dead red) which are unchangeable because we have no access to editing them. However the special quirks are randomly assigned every draft class so you can't control any of it.
Curious if all these players have the same quirk, or a combination of certain ones causes it.Comment

Will this glitch affect me if I play with all 30 teams user controlled? I’d be able to set all teams lineups right?Comment

Re: Pitchers as DH in franchise?? Why
CPU teams aren’t setting their default lineups with pitchers as the DH. They’re getting subbed in when the CPU makes lineup tweaks game to game.
If you control all 30 teams and quick manage every game for every team, you should be able to eliminate this, more or less. But it isn’t something where you can simply fix it by changing the CPU lineup at the beginning of the year and not worry about it.
From what I can tell, the best solution at this point is to just put the affected pitchers in the bullpen, which seems to nullify whatever is causing this. Even without 30-team control, you can somewhat force the CPU’s hand on that issue by editing the players into relievers.Comment

It potentially affects any simmed games.

Re: Pitchers as DH in franchise?? Why
Just played my first game of the season and sure enough...the Twins had Stephen Gonsalves at DH on Opening Day. He's currently their #5 starter. No other team seemed to be affected at this point. This is a carryover from 18, I do not have 30 team control. This is incredibly disappointing that we are in May and this bug still has not been addressed in a patch. Anyway, is there anything I can do? I seem to remember someone saying that the pitcher only replaces the DH if he has a higher overall. Since Logan Morrison is just a DH, I suppose I could edit some fielding attributes up until he matches (or surpasses?) Gonsalves' overall and it wouldn't have much of an impact. I also saw someone saying changing the affected pitcher to a RP will stop it. Will that boot him out of the rotation?Comment

Re: Pitchers as DH in franchise?? Why
It’s also my experience that it affects specific players, not random pitchers based on rotation spot. A player either has the DH issue or doesn’t. I can’t really verify that, though, as I’ve only personally seen it happen with one guy (experimenting in various situations/saves with that same player).Comment
