Fictional Rosters have made me love The Show again!!

This year I have struggled mightily with finding a Franchise and sticking with it. I have played 179 games of The Show and have deleted every one of the dozens of franchises that I have started.

Sometimes it was roster issues, the SDS rosters this year have been horrible and have plagued even the best of user created rosters. Other times I just didn't like the team I had picked. Somehow I always came up with a reason to re-start and try something else.

Then on a whim I downloaded Bacons Fictional Roster.

    OMG!!!

Do you know how wonderfully overwhelming, liberating and joyful it is to have absolutley NO IDEA who anybody in the entire freaking organization is?!?!?

I mean really, you know NOTHING. Every single pitch, at bat, fielding opportunity, is an unknown. Not only don't you know the players on your team, you don't know who anybody is. Who is the best team? No Clue. Is this guy I am getting ready to pitch to with 2 on and a tie game the one with the ability to take me yard no matter what I throw? No idea.

I am 2 weeks in to Spring Training and I swear every single position is up for grabs. This has been the most fun I have had with this game in years. This has been the spark I needed to rekindle my love for this game.

For those of you that feel things are stale or you cant settle in, you really should give these rosters I try. I am not sure I will ever play a "Real" franchise ever again. This is just amazing.

Thank you Bacon. Appreciate you in ways you just dont understand.

I like this! Did you do a fantasy draft with the rosters? Thinking of doing this myself.

Yes I did. But I did not pick any players myself. I just let it randomize everything even more.

Dang dude! I really appreciate this shoutout Bullit!

My fictional roster has been a project I've been working on since October 2016, it since has become my defining work and I do it just for people to say how much they enjoy the game again.

Fictional is the way to go man. I used a fictional set for the first time this year and I won't look back. I think the game plays better with fictional sets. Bacon definitely did a hell of a job with his set no doubt.

I am going to start a fictional Oakland Franchise with Bacon's roster. What I love too is how retro 80's he made a lot of the players look.

It is a true gem of a roster.

I get what you mean man. Slightly off topic but I just started playing FIFA for the first time in my life. I don’t know a thing about soccer and the only players I can name are Ronaldo and Messi and I love it. It’s nice not being tied to any players or team because you just simply do what you want to do without going “is this realistic?”

Re: Fictional Rosters have made me love The Show again!!

Fictional rosters (or even partially fictional rosters) can be a tremendous way of very effectively divorcing real life from your franchise. What Bullit said about preconceptions is spot-on....you HAVE to "scout" other teams, you HAVE to learn your own players, and the entire method of evaluating guys is strictly based on what happens in-game. You want to trade for a guy at a certain position, you can't just go "Oh yeah, Team X has a minor leaguer that I want". You'll be sifting through the rosters and using the player search function (most underrated aspect of MLB's mode) a ton. What I love the most...."name value" (which means nothing to the CPU) will also mean nothing to you for quite some time...you'll find yourself being way more objective about trades instead of being mad at the CPU because Tampa traded Wander Franco. That "shallow" franchise mode gets a whole lot deeper when you're forced to use all the tools at-hand.

There are 3 or 4 pretty solid fictional rosters out there. But, I too am an admirer of Bacon's roster because the ratings create so many different "personalities". I love the mix of massive platoon-split guys, (f)utility IFs, & defensively challenged players all mixed-in with the more "normal" everyday starter guys.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

Hey Show! Really appreciate you taking the time to comment.

ShowTyme15 has been one of my best friends on this site. He is someone who has seen a lot of my work over the past 5 seasons on MLB The Show and is a big reason I created this fictional roster at all. Love you man and it's why I really enjoy this site.

Armor and Sword has been a big fan of my work since the first season I uploaded my fictional roster and even went as far as to add some players to it on MLB17.

On my roster they do. Service time, career/seasonal stats and contracts have been generated with the franchise workaround glitch that had worked perfectly until 19.

Not too far off topic...and never having that elusive perfect roster is why I originally created it.

This is would also be interesting in RttS as I wouldn't be bothered by bad trades for recognizable names anymore. Might have to give this a shot. Maybe it will get me interested in The Show again for this year.
