There are some guys.....and there are only a few of them on the planet and only a few we may see in our own lifetime that have that talent and ability to hit a baseball coming at 98 MPH or here is another one and a better explanation of “clutch”
Kirk Gibson.
Kirk did his homework on this guy named Dennis Eckersley. He was arguably one of the most dominant closers in the game between 1988 and 1990.
Kirk knew on 3-2 he loved to come back door slider. It was his money/out pitch.
He sat on it. And he crushed it for one of the greatest clutch moments in baseball history.
Why?
Preparation and Talent colliding.
And he did it on one leg which makes it even more unlikely. But we were talking about Kirk Gibson who in his prime was an absolute stud player.
Some guys simply have always been clutch in big moments.
Craig Nettles
Reggie Jackson
Derek Jeter
Just to name some great Yankees.
It’s not random. It is ungodly talent combined with incredible mental preparation.
The only way you hit sliders, curves and changeups is if you are sitting on them.
If you can’t hit a fastball go play soccer.
