was about to buy the game today but now that i have seen many claim the fps issues are still there, it is a no from me. I am not going to do 1080p in 2020 to get a solid fps. Maybe on ps5 and xsx this will change

Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread
Yeah..definitely the worst part of game. I can live with that since I always skip the intro. I meant to also add that the presentation elements, particularly the between pitch and replay cameras are awesome. Make sure you keep them on. Also The Show broadcast theme is great. I have only played a couple of games of Franchise but the stats info has been great.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread
It seems every year people say the gameplay is smoother, the framerate is amazing and blah blah blah. Then I get sucked into picking it up and it’s the same old same old, even using a Pro. Stuttering galore on foul balls, players running out the their positions and cutscenes look like a slideshow etc etc. On the fastest setting sure core gameplay is pretty smooth but myself and a lot of others out there are detail freaks. Going from 60fps to 30fps randomly throughout the experience is jarring and an immersion killer. Can’t believe it’s 2020 and games like MLB 2K7 had a better overall experience in this regard.
Hoping to hear more feedback on this issue, but from what I’m gathering so far it’s more of the same.
Here’s my honest opinion on 20. It’s better than 19 but there is still framerate drops. In cutscenes especially
the framerate clearly dips but it’s not anywhere near as bad as 19. There is also, for lack of a better word, those little hiccups in transitions. I’d say its fair that some people might not notice but I do. I see the term buttery smooth used quite a bit and again I believe that’s their experience but honestly it’s not mine.
So this all might sound a little bit like a bummer But honestly it’s not effecting my enjoyment at all. The key is that it’s definitely better than 19. I strongly suggest trying for yourself because I think the biggest thing you can see by the variance of experiences in the matter, is that we all may see it differently.2016 NLL Champion Saskatchewan Rush

MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread
Game is so polished this year. From on the field to the loading screens. Even though they clearly built right on top of 19 it feels like a much fresher experience than there was between 18 and 19. The bat sounds are quite good as many people before stated. The defense and hitting looks so good on default all star as well. I’m seeing bloop singles and seeing eye singles. You never saw that without adjusting sliders in the past. I really hope they don’t ruin the game play with a patch.Comment

Simmed a season in franchise with default rosters on default settings and there were 37 trades completed in April alone.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread
PRO:
love the new bat sounds
i like the new throwing, although a lot harder
new way to hit L2 to see the line up and fielding during the presentation
CONS:
When stealing and a ball is hit in the play they still automatically slide into the base, preventing you from sending them for a potential run
Service time and options are a mess. All rookies only have 1 option. Some rookies or guys who made their debut last season have 0 options forcing you to keep them up.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread
So my early impressions are not too great. The game looks amazing, as it has been for the last few years, but I definitely see a few bugs. They aren’t major, so it’s just me being picky.
My main issue is hitting. I’m not claiming to be a top hitter or super skilled at the game (I don’t play DD, so I never go against players), but I definitely feel a difference from ‘19 to ‘20. I played 2 games, very small sample size I know, but I couldn’t make solid contact at all. First my settings are directional; I played a game on Dynamic difficulty (at All-Star) and I played one on HoF. In both instances, the pitch speed felt so slow. I had 53 early swings compared to 8 late, in the first game. In the second, I had 71 early and 20 late. I even increased the pitch speed twice in the second game, but still had early swings. I was getting weak contact all game. I’m sure it will get better with some adjusting, but damn it wasn’t fun. That’s just my thoughts though.Baseball junky....Comment

Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread
I have to say this year has much exceeded my expectations. The game plays buttery smooth and looks amazing, especially on Sharper and HDR settings. Hard to describe but the everything is crisper and the details are sharp. It is largely the same game (in a good way) but you feel like you are playing something completely new.
The sound of the bat is simply spot on. Oh and perfect perfect!!! The players make realistic errors and take realistic routes to the ball. You can really see the difference now in players who have, for example, rocket arms like Baez. In my first game against Cubs CPU, Baez committed two errors though lol.
Stream just can't do this game justice. You have to get your hands on it to really appreciate the improvements. So far so good.Baseball junky....Comment

Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread
If anyone is looking for anything ground breaking in this game, you just aren't going to find it. What you are going to find is one hell of a baseball game that in a way feels like the perfect game for being the final version only produced on PS4 (at least I'd assume). The game is just so smooth and finely tuned that it makes it incredible.
I only played one full game last night so obviously there's going to be things found when playing more. However, these are my initial thoughts.
-The hit types due to the ball physics are just incredible. It feels like the team finally got the physics ironed out. I am happy to say that for the first time ever playing a game, I did not have a towering foul pop to the catcher, and I didn't have any of those jam shots where the ball popped up slightly in the air and the catcher ran over and caught it. I cannot describe how annoying those were. Again, it's only one game so maybe it still will be an issue, but it wasn't in the game I played. The hits I had were the following
- Line drive down the line
- Ground ball down the third base line that hit the base which lead to a
double
- Looping liner to center
- Inside out hit to left center
- Dropping liner to right field
- Slow grounder up the middle that just got past the SS and 2B
- HR to RF that just clipped the pole. It hit it on the more fair side so it
wasn't all that close to a foul ball.
I think that's what I remember but that is a vast amount of hits. Just ones that I don't recall seeing last year or at least they didn't look as organic so to speak.
Next, the new score bug. It's incredible IMO. It looks so much like TV and the extra stats are really cool. I play with a clean screen with no feedback or anything and that coupled with the score bug is really awesome looking. I'll say this to, the strike zone with pitch locations when I hit R2 looks really good. It's just all really well done
Bat sounds are good
Fielding is good
Smoothness. This is the most smooth the game has played. I really feel a difference when at the plate. The game just seems so much more responsive. I've found zero hiccups so far. That was playing at Petco.
The only issues I've found is one in which the 3B was throwing the ball back to the pitcher but you could see the pitcher running to 3B. He was actually behind the 3B by that point. So essentially the 3B would have thrown it to nobody. I also wish catchers would pick up their mask when they make a play with two outs. My catcher blocked a ball on a 3rd strike and had to make the throw to 1st. He makes it but walks back leaving his mask at home plate. I think this is always the case but it's still a bit of a dumb moment. Nowhere near game breaking. Other than that I haven't found much for negatives.Last edited by bwiggy33; 03-13-2020, 12:49 PM.NHL-Minnesota Wild

Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread
- throwing meter is harder, I'm still getting used to it.
- bat sounds are nice
- playing on Balanced (1440p), colors seem to pop more and graphics overall seem a little sharper than 19. Maybe all in my head
-soundtrack is horrible. Will be loading up a USB stick with 50+ of my own songs to load Sounds of the Show when I get a chance today.
-Still feels like The Show, but the minor improvements/changes to gameplay all seem positive so far.
- minor leaguers are pretty hit and miss in this initial roster update. Hard to tell who is real and who is fake. Many players appear to have no name audio assigned (though this is editable in these players).Comment

Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread
I've only played a few M2O games so far, so very limited sample, but I feel like everything in 20 is a lot faster and smoother than 19.
The sound of the ball off the bat is incredible this year. You can really tell if someone got a hold of one or not. To add to the bat sounds, it seems that there's better hit variety as well.
Button accuracy is very fast compared to 19 and will take some getting used to but I love that it adds a challenge to fielding this year.
Will add more impressions after I play some more over the weekend.

Brooooo! Yeah, I got some hits though. Most of them were grounders. And I’m playing as the Twins. So it was definitely odd that I couldn’t make solid contact. Also, I strictly use normal swing only as I feel that’s more balanced. But I got around 8-9 hits on both games with 1 run each. Hopefully today is better for me.MSE - DENVER BRONCOS, 47-22 (3-2, playoffs)
