Although 37-year-old journeyman Jim Wilson (3.0IP, 5 ER) struggled in his debut, Portland rallied from a 5-0 deficit to take home a 13-8 victory. They scored two in the 3rd, two in the 4th, five in the 5th to take the lead, and three in the 6th during a relentless burst.

    Player of the Game: Bronco McClendon (3-4, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 3 R, 2B)
    W: Zack Harris (3-4) 2.0IP, ER, 2K
    L: Marty Melankon (10-7) 4.1IP, 7ER, 4K

Two teams in need of wins to keep Wild Card hopes alive went at it and Pittsburgh came out on top. They jumped out to an easy 3-0 lead and never looked back, eventually going ahead 7-1 by the 6th inning.

      W: Ben Cox (6-4) 7.0IP, ER, 9K
      L: Dewey Nomura (9-3) 5.0IP, 4ER, K
      Player of the Game: Tony Nunez 4-5, 3 RBI, 2B, 2 R

Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread

My fictional Braves are now 2 games from the All Star break. We're 15 games under .500, 11.5 games out of first and sinking fast (well, we've been sinking awhile now). I've been tinkering with the roster all season and really have torn things down now.

I went into full-on "Waving the white flag" mode with a couple of deals that traded away my last two viable starting pitchers (Jaylen Poole and Carson Dent) and 40 yr old 3B Chuck Souza. Combined with some earlier deals, we're...a mess in the rotation and will be eyeing multiple FA pitchers in the off-season (where we may have upwards of 100 million to spend).

There's still a ton of baseball left to play in 2020, but I'm keeping an eye out on the future. The current projected roster for next season:

        C - (open)
        1B - Mason Franklin
        2B - (open)
        3B - our 2nd round pick (high contact/fielding with a 74ish OVR)
SS - (open - though it could go to our 1st rounder, a low contact/high power guy with speed and fielding)
LF - Paul Keys (assuming we can re-sign him - we grabbed him early in the year from Cle in a blockbuster)
        CF - JC Ray
        RF - Wong-Yong Lee

C - Michael Sands (bat is too light to start ideally - acquired from Seattle earlier)
CI - Caleb Graybow (he could start at 2B - but I'd love him in a utility role - recently acquired from Miami)
MI - (open - though several holdovers could step in)
OF - Jorge Aguilera (who is having an awesome season and given Lee's lack of durability, I NEED him)
OF - (open - will be probably be filled internally)
Bench Bat - (open - will try to ID a lefty slugger)

        SP - (open)
        SP - (open)
        SP - (open)
SP - Davis Wasiliewski (top 10 prospect - acquired from the Cubs in the Dent trade)
SP - Troy Jameson (top 50 prospect - acquired from LA earlier in the season in the one deal I'm regretting a bit)

        Other SP/long-reliever Candidates (basically holdovers)
Brady Journell (acquired from Boston earlier)
        Aaron Reynolds
Lucas Morse ('B' potential guy who I may convert to a 2-way player - acquired from Arizona for Poole)
        Kevin Strombel

RP - Donte Tracy (I feel he's a diamond in the rough, acquired from the Rockies for Souza)
RP - Nathan Stevenson (who could close if we can't find a viable option)
        RP - (open)
        SU - Rafael Quevedo
        SU - (open)
        CL - (open)

So my next phase, post All Star break, is deciding if I make any blockbusters. Keys is my one legitimate guy on an expiring contract but...I'm finally figuring out his swing and he's an ideal 3-hole hitter. Lee and Franklin both have contracts that make trading them a bit untenable. Ray is the one guy left with big value (albeit, with a long deal) that could make sense to trade; but I LOVE his glove in CF and he's my one speed threat.

It's going to be a bit of a grind to next season knowing we're likely out of it (August/September may be brutal). But, I DO have some storylines to follow:

        - Can the young stud pitchers develop?
        - Does Donte Tracy have 'the goods' in spite of his meh OVR?
        - Can we play spoiler for one or more of our NL East rivals?
        - Which guys down the depth chart assert themselves for a chance to be on next season's roster?
        - Do the Braves give ABs to Lucas Morse and see if he can play the field?

        Going to be a blast!!
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

The 2021 regular season is officially here. The Padres take on the Rockies in the opening series of the campaign. Bit of a Rocky start (pun intended) for San Diego. Pitching still appears to be an issue just as it was in spring training. Struggles against western division rivals were an issue last year hopefully this is just a blip an not a sign of that trend continuing.

Well here are the opening series high/low lights from the opening series...

Look at the outing. Just look at that masterful performance.

            Impressive right!?....

Now prepare for the devastating part. I was one strike! ONE! away from pitching a perfect game which would also have been my first no-no. After giving it up I almost just saved the game to comeback to it later. I've never been so crushed by a video game ever.

Spoiler for a episode of TV that's almost 20 years old..... This hit my like watching that episode of Futurama where Fry's dog dies waiting for him.

The Alaska Yetis (45-61) may have had a rough season but they're scorching since the All-Star Break. This 5-2 win over the Albuquerque Aliens (58-48) was their 7th in 11 games since the break. The Aliens are trending downward, holding a poor 6-14 record in July so far. Their struggles allowed Columbus to tie them for the second Wild Card spot.

              W: Rick Payne (6-11) 8.0IP, 2ER, 14K
              L: Chuck Nash (8-5) 4.2IP, 4ER, 2K
              POTG (besides Payne): Bruce Rosenthal: 1-2, HR (7), 2 RBI (22), 2 BB, R

I played quite a bit with Bacon's rosters in '19, but I got a late start with '20 (PS4 broke) so I just now downloaded this iteration. I will be doing a fictional league with his rosters and only have 8 teams left to create before I can get started. In last year's version I used the A's but I will be holding a draft with this year's.

I just finished reading all 56 or so pages of this thread and it appears most of you are only picking one team (vs 30 team control) and playing without budgets... Is this correct?

Budgets ON is a must to me but everyone is different. My first franchise i had was one team only but wasnt quite satisfied with my created teams so i started another using 30 team control so i could change some teams/uniforms later if i decide to. The other 29 teams are assigned to a custom profile with everything set to auto.

I'm playing single team with GM Contracts and Budgets turned on. I think having GM contracts on (it's disabled in multi-team control) is vital to an immersive franchise experience. I want that pressure from the owner to meet certain goals - it's greatly colored my approach in my franchise where I really need to rebuild but I am tasked with getting to the World Series in 3 years. Combined with the insanely good variety of Bacon's roster, and I am constantly thinking creatively about what's best for my franchise. If those items were 'off' I could lollygag for 10 seasons "building" with no repercussions....that feels incredibly arcade-like to me.

I'm also rolling with one team control, budget and GM contracts on. For the same reason already mentioned.

So a few days ago I was doing some GM work and searching for a new outfielder to replace an aging veteran. Going through the list and I see a guy who is in the first year of a 14 year contract! I didn't do a any digging beyond that though and I'll have to check when I get back home for more info but...

Did the CPU really sign this crazy deal or did Bacon work some magic that created this A-Rod like massive long contract!?

The one I came across was Florival i think his name was. Houston 2b, 15 year deal!

A little scouting report for you. There is a rookie(28yrs old) on the Angels, Marcus Daniels that I traded for. 61-D . I wanted him mainly for a 1b Back up, he's a 1B/Lf/Rf. He has worked himself into the lineup. In 186 AB, 48 hits, 15 hr ( 75 pwr vs RHP) 37 rbi. .258 avg/OBP .356/OPS .931. I also have an aging outfielder with a big contract that I'll probably try to move in the offseason so Daniels has a starting job.

EDIT: And on cue he comes up with this game against the Dodgers! 2 walks to go along those stats as well

Yes Florival that's him! I had his player card up and thought oh he might be a good fit then I tabbed over to his contract and laughed and said nope not this go 'round. We're the Padres not the Yankees.

Daniels seems like a solid player. Nice seeing low overall players perform well makes the game a lot more interesting.

I think since I'm in year two I'm going to try and play some of the minor league games to see what hidden talent might be lurking in the farm system. Mostly AAA but maybe a few of the AA games as well since I put my first round pick RF Solomon Chappell down there to start the year off.
