Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread

I decided to start a franchise with Bacon's fictional rosters.

I already have my 2027 Indians which at this point is kind of a fictional franchise.

Since I am playing every game of my Indians starting in 2026, I decided I wanted to try out a quick manage franchise with an NL team.

I decided to roll with the Dodgers. I have always liked their uniforms but never wanted to roll with the present day Dodgers as they are perennial front runners. My plan is to quick manage a series or two a day and eventually build up the Dodger juggernaut but on my terms. The NL west is a tough division with the Giants being the top team in the league.

I am rolling with DH on for all since this is fictional and I will still be doing all of my GM tasks like scouting as I like my scouting system better than how the game auto scouts for you.

Doing a quick manage dynasty will give me the chance to get to know my players but also progress quickly like I enjoy instead of simming to a point I want to play. The plan will be to eventually play all the games but multiple seasons down the road. It's also a nice way to get a quick series in if I have to go to bed soon instead of starting a game and having to save in game a few innings in and losing pitcher confidence.

      ---------

      On to the season:

We opened the year at home against the Giants and are now 1-2. We had a great walk off win in extra innings in the bottom of the 11th in game 2 but I have quickly discovered that the bullpen is a liability.

It seems like Boston (86-77) loves playing with their backs against the wall. After winning three straight to end the regular season with elimination on the line, they won the one-game playoff. Now, they've added a win in the Wild Card game over St. Louis (87-75). The Archer held a 1-0 lead heading into the 7th and Boston looked dead. However, surprising starter Lunchbox Jones had a huge game. He singled in a run to tie it before Bryce Lewis put Boston up with his own single. Then, it broke open when Boston had a six-run 8th inning to go ahead 8-1. St. Louis got four more runs off the bullpen but that's it.

        W: Milo Cabrera (1-0, 1.29 ERA) 7.0IP, ER, 5 K
        L: Kyle Redmann (0-1), 2.84 ERA) 6.1IP, 2 ER, 4 K

        BOS: Lunchbox Jones: 4-5, 3 RBI (3), 2 R (2), SB (1)
        BOS: Bryce Lewis: 3-5, HR (1), 3 RBI (3), R (1)
        STL: Derrick Shaw: 1-4, HR (1), 3 RBI (3), R (1)
        STL: Flash Miller: 1-4, HR (1), RBI (1), R (1)

Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread

May was a rough month here in Padres land. Defense continues to keep us in games. Leading the league in K's 607, ERA 2.34, Shutouts 9, Fielding % .993 and rank top 5 in HR allowed 59 and hits allowed 449. The bright spot on offense is this team loves to hit doubles as we lead the league with 121. We just need to not leave guys stranded once they get out there. We're a much better team than our 31-29 record suggests. Same issues as last year need to get everyone firing at the same time. The NL west is way to competitive to not be performing at the highest level consistently.

            May Team Stats
            (13-15)
            Offense - .260 BA | 258 Hits | 22 HR | 102 RBI | 17 SB
            Defense - 2.25 ERA | 165 Hits | 257 K's

Starting pitcher Kyle Johnson will miss a significant portion of the summer as he's gone for at least 2 months with a torn hamstring. Johnson also missed a large chunk of 2020 with a shoulder injury. This could signal the end of Johnsons career in San Diego as he's in the final year of his contract. If he gets healthy prior to the trade deadline the Padres could look to move him. Michael Money was called up to fill in for Johnson and will be aiming to stay up if all goes well. In Money's first start of the season he pitched 6 solid innings, giving up 4 hits, a run and posting 7 strike outs resulting in a no decision.

            Key Individuals:

            (RP) Alexzander Starks | 3-1, 0.84 ERA, 28 K's in 43.0 innings pitched (1st in All-Star Voting)
            (2B) Jackson Gorzelanny | .304 BA, 4 HR, 19 RBI and 5 stolen

            MiLB Standouts:
            (1B) Bo Sparks | .309 BA, 7 HR, 36 RBI, 4 SB, 0 Errors (1st in All-Star Voting)
            (3B) Pedro Perdomo | .333 BA, 4 HR, 17 RBI
            (SP) Joseph Mackowiak | 6-3, 2.37 ERA, 83 K's (3rd in All-Star Voting)

            NL WEST
            Rockies | 35-24
            Dodgers | 33-28
            Giants | 32-28
            Padres | 31-29
            D-Backs | 29-30

            NL Awards
            Pitcher of the Month | Brandon Watson | 6-0, 1.02 ERA , 52 K's
Player of the Month | Caleb Pressley | .350 BA, 9 HR, 22 RBI
Rookie of the Month | Russell Smith | .284, 4 HR, 13 RBI

            MISC. Around the MLB
            • The Phillies have the best record in the league 43-18 and the Yankees have the worst 21-41

My fictional Braves are plowing straight into the 2021 season after a tough 2020 season where we finished tied for last place in the NL East.

We had a terrific offseason as we had cleared a massive amount of budget space. The highlights include:

              - We signed the one top tier SP on the market, Chip Wolf, to a 9 year pact at 31 million dollars annually. Chip will obviously anchor our rotation.
              - Former Phillies starter Marty Melankon was signed to a 5 year deal worth 8.5 million annually.
              - Former Oakland closer James Brandon was signed to a 5 year deal worth 11 million annually.
              - We executed a trade with the Royals, acquiring SP Jose Rosales for RF Wong-Yong Lee and SP Kirby Pace.

The offense got some love too
              - We signed stud 2B Bobby Lockett from the ChiSox to a 5 year 16.2 million dollar deal.
              - We acquired C Christopher Templeton from the Reds for SP Troy Jameson.
              - To help offset the loss of Wong-Yong Lee, we signed RF Junior Richard to a 3 year deal worth 3.5 million per season.

All things be considered, our team has been massively upgraded to complement a core lead by Paul Keys, NL MVP Mason Franklin, and speedy CF JC Ray.

The 2021 season is underway and we faced an incredibly good Mets team in a 4-game set, winning 3 of 4 games (all of which were low-scoring affairs). Top-to-bottom, the NL East is by far the best division in the game....so we will be in a dogfight. Our owner is not pleased with last season's performance and is demanding results. But, we feel our team is good enough to go all the way and we're going all-in to win this year!
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

The AL Wild Card game is in the books and it wasn't close. The Washington Eagles (93-69) jumped on the Columbus Bombers (88-74) early and never looked back. They hit a three-run homer in the 1st and a grand slam in the 2nd, before adding another two-run shot. It was 9-0 after two innings and that was it. The game ended 10-4 and Columbus never threatened.

The Dodgers have hit a hot streak. We went into St. Louis and swept the Cardinals in a 4 game series then came home and took 2 of 3 from the Nationals. We now sit at 10-6 and 1 game behind the Giants in the NL West in our quick manage series.

Though we did lose our closer for 2 weeks our bullpen has held up fair enough. Our offense has kept us hot.

The Chicago Hitmen proved why they were so good in the regular season. They took a 2-0 lead after four innings before giving up a solo homer in the sixth. However, they followed that up by adding on two more runs in the bottom half and poured on more later to roll to a 9-1 victory in Game 1 over the Las Vegas Gamblers.

In my quick manage series, the Dodgers are now 12-7 sitting tied for first in the NL West with the Giants after taking 2 of 3 from the Cardinals at home and are 7-3 in the last 10 games.

Our offense continues to swing the hot bat as they are making up for our pitching which is very inconsistent. A lot of our players on offense are out performing their ratings and they are the ones carrying the hot bat. It will be fun to see if they can keep up the momentum or if they start to fall back to their expected level.

My closer will return in a few days and help strengthen the back end of my bullpen. The problem lies in our mid and long term relievers and the back end of our rotation.

This is my first time doing quick manage and I am having fun with it. It will let me be hands on but still build up my team. I am also deciding if eventually I will create my own thread for this but I am enjoying the mini updates on here. I hope others are as well.

                            Stay tuned...

The 2021 Amateur Draft has come and gone. Overall we drafted pretty well. A couple of them are only a year or two from possibly making it to the majors assuming they make solid progress.

                              • 2nd Rnd: 20 y.o.| Jason Hinijosa | 2B | Illinois (High energy, can hit well against lefties and righties)
                              • 3rd Rnd: 21 y.o. | Marcel Casillas | CP | Venezuela (Lefty closer potential to be a star)
                              • 4th Rnd: 18 y.o. | Juan Cordova | LF | Domincan Republic (Long term project could be a solid bench player)
                              • 5th Rnd: 18y.o. | Lewis Martinez | 3B | Iowa (Speed/Excels at stealing bases)
                              • 6th Rnd: 19 y.o. | Walter Kurkowski | LF | California (Another long term project ceiling might be AAA)

The computer is horrible at making names that match the country and/or ethnicity. So a couple of the names aren't the names in game yet. Wish you could edit draft picks before the new season. Maybe with the PS5 it will be possible.

I posted about it in the Bacon Roster thread that I'm going to try and swap out some of the players from the update roster for member of the new 2021 draft class. It would take a bit of work and I'd swap like potential for like. We'll see how it works when the 2022 season rolls around if I can make it work. Since the CPU only drafts on potential I think it seems kind of fair. I wouldn't be swapping any of my picks but who knows it's a work in progress that might not even get off the ground.

The Dodgers got swept by the Pirates finishing up their nine game home stand at 4-5 and sitting at a record of 12-10. They are 1 game out of first but sit third in the standings behind the Giants and Rockies. Game 2 of the series was thrilling as we were down 7-1 but had a 7 run 5th but our bullpen couldn't hold on to the lead.

We also lost CF Bruce Frost for 2 months just as he earned the starting CF spot on the Dodgers. Good news is star closer Lamaar Coats will be back any day now.

We head to Washington next to take on the Nationals.
