Re: Fielding flyballs should not be this hard
I'm running into the same problem with the outfielders not locking on either.
I can remember this being an issue at the beginning of last year too, so it seems like it's happening again.

Re: Fielding flyballs should not be this hard
It remains a botched system even after the updates hard to judge and fielders still do not lock on

Re: Fielding flyballs should not be this hard
It seems like there is a greater penalty this year for putting outfielders in secondary positions. Then you have guys like Ralph Kiner and Kyle Schwarber who field like Jose Canseco.Steelers, Penguins, Penn State, Pirates, Red Sox, Manchester United.Comment

Just adding this to the discussion. Latest patch (version 1.07).

Re: Fielding flyballs should not be this hard
The game still has triggering issues and I see it all over the diamond not just the outfield. It pops up randomly too. The biggest thing lacking to me is you really can’t feather the left stick to the degree that you could do in the past to fine tune your fielder to make the catch.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Yeah these types of catches/non-catches happen way too often."The older I get, the faster I was!"

Re: Fielding flyballs should not be this hard
Just don't run full tilt at a ball if you don't need to so as to allow yourself time to set up an animation. If you NEED to sprint full tilt to make the play the game knows this and the animation triggers as long as you take good angles etc and get your timing down.
Now, I consider myself a very strong fielder (plenty of other areas of the game I need to get better at) and haven't had any issues fielding fly balls. Had a moments on some line drives that I've had to really REALLY judge well to get to the spot at the right time (as you'd expect) but idk what to say...honestly, this game plays lovely...Maybe in your case you need more practise?
Again, not hating on anyone...people in general need to stop saying something doesn't work because they're currently not very good at it. We need to acknowledge the fact that we're quite often not as good as we think we are. I for one don't believe fielding needs anything else done to it on this game. If there's any tangible help I can give I will. I just read what you're saying and it sounds like a different game we're playingLast edited by Drop_ya_mitts; 04-06-2020, 10:36 AM.Comment

Re: Fielding flyballs should not be this hard
There's definitely an issue with fielding this year. The comparison of landing a helicopter is very accurate.
I really don't think it's a skill level issue as this was a big issue last year as well.
I was part of the thread last year where very similar issues with the fielding turned into a back and forth argument on skill vs a game issue. Turned out it was a game issue and thankfully patches lessened the problem.
Now I know I speak for a lot of people when I say that certain situations in the outfield do not play naturally. There have been too many times where I have my fielder in the correct spot and the animation doesn't kick in.
This needs to be fixed rather than trying to justify faulty mechanics.

Again, we know SDS patched an issue with some animations under fly balls not triggering but that's not to say you're not the issue.
Data needs to be collected. Vids captured, bugs reported.Comment

What situations specific to you? I'd love to see what you're doing when you say the animations don't occur because it can absolutely be user skill as the issue.

Look at CujoMatty's videos - the animation is not kicking in.
They're not even counting as errors when they happen either, so it's looking like this is a fundamental problem with the gameplay mechanics.
There are enough people in this thread that are having issues, and there is video evidence of it too.

Re: Fielding flyballs should not be this hard
I agree, I've been playing the Show since it debuted for PS4 so it's definitely not a skill issue. Ive had outfielders run to the spot stand for a second and watch the ball bounce off their head, They just don't turn around. It seems to have gotten a bit better since the last patch 1.07. Playing today I have a created SS who is a 99 in every category and watched him field a routine ground ball and for some strange reason he ran for 3 steps after fielding the ball then went into the animation for throwing and the baserunner who is a 61 for speed beat the throw(baserunner speed is at default).
On another note that same created player struggles to hit HRs. He's 4th on the team in HRs meanwhile Pete Alonso , Conforto & Cano all hit bombs when they homer. I create this same player every year and he usually hits long HRs often, this year the guy hits wall scrapers at best.Comment

Re: Fielding flyballs should not be this hard
This one was ugly the other night. First baseman tag animation does not trigger, it also does not let me throw and really bad clipping at the end, yuck.

But some of us aren't. I for one am not having issues catching fly balls. If it were some kind of major game play bug everyone would be having the same issues, not just some people.Atlanta Braves

Re: Fielding flyballs should not be this hard
It's weird while playing with the White Sox a routine flyball was hit to right and for whatever reason Nomar Mazara waved his arms and ran away from the ball and was charged with an error?????Proud season ticket holder for the Oklahoma City ThunderComment
