    I think I'm done....

I seriously don't think I can play this game anymore. There are too many forces at work under the hood for this to feel like I'm playing anything more than an interactive movie at this point. I mostly play with classic pitching and directional hitting, so I may be bringing this on myself, but after about 70 games straight in my franchise I've seen the game engine play out the same scenarios too often for me to ignore at this point.

-Multiple errors in the same half-inning by gold/diamond fielders
-Constant popouts/liners at fielders with good hitters/inputs
-Giving up weird bloop hits off soft contact that I never have gotten as a hitter
-Baserunners either being psychic or blatantly refusing to respond to my inputs
-Infield hits 2 inches in front of the plate that my silver-fielding catchers move in slow motion towards and get beaten out by half a step
-Suddenly not being able to throw a strike until a run is given up then immediately becoming Nolan Ryan
-Groundballs against me always being *just* out of reach while it feels like I'm aiming directly at the other team
-Not being able to hit water off a boat for 7 innings and then having batting practice for the last 2
-CPU sending out relievers with no stamina or confidence and striking out the side
-Predetermined HRs within the first 4-5 pitches of my SP losing stamina

The list goes on and on. I've played consistently since 2018, but mostly simming/GMing while playing maybe 5-10 games throughout the season. This is my first time attempting to complete an entire season and it's bringing all the game engine's flaws to light. Some of these can be written off as game mechanics or user error or sliders or settings changes or whatever you want, but there are just too many factors involved for me to feel any control. Every game is one long cutscene that I get to press a couple buttons in. In a time where video games are supposed to provide a level of escapism, it feels as out of control as real life at this point.

Pardon the long post, just needed to vent.

A little bit of reality and positivity for you. I felt this way a yr or 2 ago after playing on classic/directional and I must say making the jump to at least meter pitching is terrific. You get more control on the speed, accuracy, and feel of being in the driver's seat. The jump from directional to zone hitting is a big skill gap (and will take a lot of practice) but has produced a lot more control in my hitting as well and therefore eliminating that helplessness you feel

I've been playing the game since '08 on meter.
The exact same garbage happens there too. Is it better than classic? Yes. But literally almost every single thing you mentioned happens there too. It's a flawed engine, simple as that.

        The overall game engine sucks.

You'll see the cpu routinely do things that you wish you could pull off.

The more games you play the more you feel like you're getting conned and have little control over the outcome.

You can also see it coming before it happens a lot of the times.

It's just not a fun game.

          Re: I think I'm done....

I'll never be done with this game bc it's the only game I play.

I am frustrated with some of the engine/mechanics/AI of the game too. To many (mostly CPU simmed) 15+ per team hit games. To many 27+ pitches per innings. Which lead to pitchers not being able to get past 5 innings but some how CPU simmed games still have no problem putting triple the amount of real life complete games a season. Ya you can fix some what with sliders, but I want to set and forget sliders, not adjust before I play, adjust when this or that happens.

One of the biggest issues with sliders is that every single patch changes gameplay, so the perpetual tweaking becomes a game all in its own.

I've had the same final sliders since the first patch. The gameplay hasn't changed.

Part of it in my nobody opinion is this BS perfect/perfect crap they introduced and this year's rosters being the default or OSFM. I actually went and finished my 19 franchise and carried it over which helped some, but the inside the game mechanics are what they are.

I'm not entirely sure if my gameplay changed or not. I can say that the new feedback system makes things feel worse than they already were as far as process/result relationships go.

A lot of these issues aren't "gameplay" issues in a literal sense either. Platinum 1Bs and SSs suddenly committing multiple errors after the 8th inning multiple times in a season isn't a "gameplay" thing. That's something hidden in the code that's being activated. Same goes for ball physics issues that result in the CPU making a larger variety of contact at the most inopportune times and a variety of other issues. It's not about gameplay, it's about the results of the game itself.

It makes for great, suspenseful entertainment, yes. I feel like I'm watching a real game. And therein lies the problem. I shouldn't feel like I'm *watching* a game. I should feel like I'm playing one.

Idk if this will help, but I was having the same issue. Fielding felt really clumsy to me no matter the game or the situation. Idk if you mess with sliders, but if you do, go with 4/4. I did that and fielding is 100% smooth in my nobody opinion. It appears so much more natural.

What is the most irritating to me is the frequency of 20+ pitch innings where no one ever got on base. I had a pitcher hitting against us one game, ratings for contact, vision and discipline were all 0, yet he worked out a 14 pitch AB against Kershaw by fouling anything and everything, literally. He had a 1-2 count for most of the AB. I think he would have walked had he not been swinging at everything. lol

The average pitches per AB IRL is just under 4. The show is between 5 & 6 somewhere, at least in MoM. Even telling pitchers to pitch aggressive doesn't work. I don't think that option has ever worked.

The MLB avg pitches per game is 146. So that equates to 17 pitches on avg per inning. Which I'm fine with and the game usually is around that. The issue is how it gets there most the time. Every game you can count on a +30 pitch inning then 1 or 2 innings of 8 and under. Now I'm not saying every inning should be 17, it's how the game calculates these. I think it's that way with a lot of the games calculations trying to keep things in line for a "season". They overboard, then under board to almost a severe manner. IE 3 games of less the 4 hr's and then a game with 9 total. Just an example. Again though, these are just my humble nobody opinion. If I had any brains, I wouldn't be a parts manager for a living lol. The stats are there and the game represents it there for a whole season, it's just how it gets there (more then likely so all games don't feel the same) that needs to be tweaked.

the constant need to tune sliders because of patches can be very annoying, so if your looking for variety, what I did at one point was I had 3 slider sets I rotated through game by game. all 3 sets were drastically different and gave each game a feel of its own. plus I use dynamic difficulty anyways so things were already hopping before I did my 3 slider set experiment

I have to be honest, and it's probably not gonna make you feel better, but this sense of scripting has been present for years but where I really couldn't take it anymore was on the PS4. Plus, that's when the game got infinitely worse with the game modes, losing season mode, etc. I have been playing 16 on PS3 ever since because I just can't be bothered. That game has issues too, but it's not nearly as bad as other years. Not even close. It's the best Show in my opinion and people will be doing community rosters for a long time.
Even better would be if there were rosters for the PS2 versions, those games were incredible. But pretty much everything you listed as frustrations is everything I experienced on the PS4 Show. So, I stopped playing it.
