My suspicion would be that it's more to do with the change to next gen, rather than some radical franchise improvement. You can't carry your save over to next gen, you can't carry it over to either Xbox, so it would mean carry over only for PS4, so one out of the 4 platforms it's being released on. So cutting it instead of putting in work that would only apply to a fraction of their sales.

As for Xbox, the game has never been on Xbox so I'm not sure what you would carryover and I wouldn't expect the team to research how to transfer a save from Playstation hardware to Xbox hardware.
It's been mentioned a few times by the devs that the reason certain things can't be added to franchise was due to them using "legacy" code was the term I believe they used. And the understanding from myself, and I'm guessing others, is that at some point to get in community requests they would have to re-write that legacy code which in turn meant a distinct possibility that carryover saves wouldn't work for that one year.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Arrives on April 20
I too have a save that started in 14 and continue in each version. My plan was playing every game including ST(I use dynamic to set my level for Reg Season). I got to 17 doing that but my dynamic got messed up plus I just wasn’t feeling the hitting and relievers seemed to get tired too fast and/or not recover fast enough. I was way ahead in the standings anyway so I started using quick/manage to finish out the season. I have a Superstar 2B that I drafted so I’m quite invested in him.
I just started 18 playing ST and prob going to play first game of each series then quick manage to catch up quicker until I reach current day. If I can’t carry to 21 I will just keep going with 20. I’ll prob get 21 when on sale or price comes down. I’ve been mostly doing that anyway. 20 was first one I bought day one in quite awhile. I do like the March to October mode so I will start a new one if that then continue after using the play one then quick manage way.
Unless continue saves starts again on 21 and beyond I’ll play every game day to day again.Last edited by NYJin2011tm; 02-01-2021, 10:52 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Arrives on April 20
No Y2Y carryover saves is a gut punch out of the gate.
I always thought there would be a year (assumed jump to next gen) when carryover saves would be suspended so they could rewrite old code in franchise mode, but damn does it sting.
Looking forward to hearing more

Re: MLB The Show 21 Arrives on April 20
Looks like they are going to make three different playstyles.
Casual
Simulation
And stick jockey
Can bring rtts to other modes.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Arrives on April 20
I'm thankful that it happens to coincide with my Cubbies entering a rebuild phase so I might be able to enjoy using them in Franchise, but man, I had kept my Twins franchise going for like 7 years now (thanks in part to you btw...not sure if you remember but you shipped me a copy of the game so that I could carry my saves over one year when I hadn't bought it).
Always glad to help out when/where I can.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Arrives on April 20
Yes, it does. I actually thought of you when I first read it. We knew this would happen at some stage. It was just a matter of when. Hopefully, it is a good update and worth the sacrifice.
The good news is that MLB 20 is playable (and apparently, quite spectacularly) on the PS5...we'll always have that version for our existing franchises. It would have stun a lot more if the overhaul had happened in a way that would not allow us to take advantage of the new system's power.
And depending on how this all shakes out......MLB 20 may very well end up being my game on the PS5 whenever I come around to going next gen.
I am not feeling great about 3 different modes of play ala Madden (Simulation, Arcade, Competitive) I think it stinks on Madden and is poorly executed and a mess.
I am not optimistic.
Times are a changing for The Show. And not in ways I wanted to hear.
The PS3 and 4 glory years are looking more and more like exactly that.
Why am I so pessimistic? Because I am an old school sports gamer and the core base of The Show was always built on a simulation core and now....I am seeing the game going down the “we need to make it more accessible big time since we are cross platform now”. That usually does not bode well for those of us who love the degree of difficulty the game has and how close it resembles the grind of playing 162 games. This is going towards instant gratification players, online competitive and the like.
This is marking the end of an era for this franchise.
MLB 20 and all my carryovers are my priority. Too many incredible rosters to just give up like that.
Am I speculating? Yeah I am. Could this revamped franchise be awesome? Yeah. But I am simply pessimistic it was not made into what people really want in these parts (Operation Sports).
Hope I am proven wrong.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 02-01-2021, 10:59 AM.Now Playing on PS5:

It was very appreciated! Those carryover saves made me more invested in my Twins franchise than I've probably ever been in any other game. I'm gonna be in the same position as you; trying to decide if I really want to start over or not.NFL: Bills

Yep Country!... there’s too much hand holding in today’s games. Not just this game but others too. Plus I hate all those stubs and packs thing every time I start the game. I don’t care about any of that. I hate what online has done to games.Last edited by NYJin2011tm; 02-01-2021, 11:16 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Arrives on April 20
Like I said a few posts ago, this, to me at least, was expected due to franchise mode being written on old code and the reasoning for them not adding things the community wanted was because things needed to be re-written/started from scratch.
My guess, and its only that, is that you won't be able to carryover from '20 to '21, but from '21 going forward, carryover saves will resume.
They needed a point to suspend it to work on franchise mode and this is as good of a time as any.
For a lot of reasons. I am not hyped at all reading the notes on that blog. Not at all. Sounds like we are players of the past. This is all gearing up for online competitive etc etc etc. It is incredibly difficult to code a game for three different modes (ask Madden how that has gone).
Really...might be the end of an era for me and this series.
And that is ok. MLB 20 does everything I want. I have a 5 year Yankee chise going that I like you have played every single pitch, inning and game. I am so invested in it. I have so much joy from it.
I got it all with MLB 20. And it plays amazing on the PS5 from everything I heard. So it’s all good.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 02-01-2021, 11:00 AM.Now Playing on PS5:

Re: MLB The Show 21 Arrives on April 20
MLB '20 runs way better on PS5 than it does on PS4 Pro, it's really not even close. So for anyone that's getting a PS5 and on the fence about '21 given today's news, if you're a fan of '20, it runs amazing on PS5. So like A&S alluded to, I could see people like that being perfectly content with getting a PS5 and just rolling with '20.
Having said that, I'm definitely getting this on Series X and I can't wait. Though I'm a big PlayStation fan, my love for Xbox was so strong during the OG Xbox and 360 days. I chose not to get an Xbox One solely based on the Show being PS4 exclusive. So for a big Xbox fan like myself, I'm so freakin pumped to have an option to play a baseball game on Xbox again. The Series X is amazing hardware, as the PS5 is. Once MS studios finally start pumping out games, it's going to be amazing. And now add to that...the Show is coming to Xbox! So awesome.Comment
