Awesome work, thanks for the help

I tried this once last year and got annoyed I kept bouncing between two levels, so I just turned it off. Was frustrating to feel good about what I was doing, and then feel terrible that I couldn't do anything.

        PS5

The overall game is great as it's been for years. I love the amount of options at our disposal. Presentation is top notch. That said, there are some gameplay clipping issues that I hope get addressed.

My outfielder will randomly clip or ghost right through the ball boy when attempting to catch a fly ball.

Also seeing my batter run right through the catcher's body when running to 1st base on an infield pop up.

As realistic as this game looks at times, things like players clipping completely through bodies totally kills immersion. Collision detection is a must especially for Next Gen!

        *Update*
The more I play, the more clipping issues I'm noticing smh. Batters at times will clip right through baseman when running to base. I'm seeing base runners feet clip through bases, etc. This type of stuff should be a thing of the past. It's putting a damper on what otherwise would be a great game. Come on Sony San Diego! Fix your collision detection!

So correct me if I'm wrong...but you can't just play an unranked game against a friend?

Nevermind i found it. These menus are terrible.

MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread

4 days in now, and while I absolutely don’t regret getting it this year, I honestly feel this is step back from 20 in *some areas*.

            Things I like
-I’m lucky enough to be playing on PS5 and I find the controller feedback to be super impressive. The dual sense controller to me has the highlight of the PS5 since I got it.
-There seems to be a lot more variety in types of hits and contact. Bloop hits, slap hits etc. I like this a lot
-Stadium Creator is amazing and very detailed, a pleasant surprise!
            -Smooth framerates
-New pitching mechanics are a welcome change!

            Things I don’t like.

            - RTTS is gutted, frankly it’s embarrassing.
            - No more card rewards after games...like c’mon.
            - Menus are meh, I don’t mind the darker colors but the menu inside menu inside menu design is meh. I feel bad for newer people to the game.
-Low XP for daily missions...200XP for 15 innings, seems like they meant 2000, hopefully it is fixed.
-Fielding seems broken again, it needs fixing.
-No SOTS, granted this could be a hardware issue.

One of the things I loved about MLB vs other sports titles was playing DD, Franchise, and RTTS. Now RTTS seems like a waste of time. Looks like once we get better rosters I’ll do my Franchise and play some DD. I don’t regret buying this year, but I feel like it’s just a little stale compared to last year.

Some, like me, think the sound of the bat hitting the ball is underwhelming but others think it sounds fantastic

I may be crazy but I think I found the reason I wasn't loving the sound.

I've been playing on the default camera since I got the game and switched it to "offset 2" today. Immediately I could tell the difference in the sound of the bat

For anyone who thinks the sound is not right would you try changing the camera and see if that makes a difference for you? It may be in my head but I feel like the sounds are so much better now

The entire idea of it, to me, goes against something like a baseball game where you need a consistent behavior in its mechanics in order to improve your skills. Having pitch speeds, swing timing, fielding .etc all fluctuate in their mechanic, I believe, actually does the opposite of its intent.

Im on xbox X not the new Series and it has the 3 graphic settings like ps4 pro last year.. i tried the 1080P mode for better frame rate and its still disappointing.

Its all jittery once runners on base and makes pitching feel harder with frame rate skips. How is it on PS5 and the new xbox? Is the frame rate perfect at all times?

Worth the upgrade for better frame rate ya think? also fielding feels so robotic this year like they sped the timing up and infield plays happen way to fast with the animations of fielders.

When I got my Series X, I gave my dad my Xbox X, We game share, and I go back and forth between the two as I've a couple times went to play some games with him. In my opinion. No, it isn't worth the upgrade. I agree with you that the Xbox X version is disappointing that it doesn't run a consistent frame rate on 1080p, but it also doesn't on the Series X. In fact, it bothers me more to see frame drops from 60fps and down, than 40fps and down. It's much more jarring imo. The next gen versions are underwhelming, and I am thinking of selling my console to just go back to the X while the Series X is still in high demand.

I'm about to play it on a Series X with Game Pass. I loved the Dual Sense in Astrobot. The only thing I don't like about the controller is it's kind of "sharp" on the handle ends instead of round like the DS4. Sucks I'll be playing The Show 21 without Dual Sense but I couldn't justify spending $70 when I have Game Pass.
I never really got into RTTS so I don't know what I'm missing. I can play it on previous versions of the show if I want.

No card reward makes no sense. I am hoping that is a weird glitch. The game is supposed to reward you to play and getting cards can get more people into DD. Very strange if they removed it on purpose and it's just gone.

Thanks for the feedback. Watching on youtube people playing on newer systems 60fps and it kinda makes this game show its age. The animations look weird on fielding plays in 60fps. Its just weird i feel like the game played better back on ps3. Graphics look almost like they took a step back this year. Maybe im just tired and need sleep lol

If only you were in my position. I still played 2K13 (mechanically it is a sound game of which the Show has borrowed a lot from) and went to Series X The Show, so...it looks pretty good to me, but I don't believe it looks amazing. What I was surprised about is how little adjustment I needed to make the switch. Both games play so similar. I was expecting needing a day or two to adjust, but it took me only a few innings to get The Show down.

MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread

The show was always notorious for havjng frame rate issues, but finally it is extremely smooth.

                            - Colors really pop and lighting seems improved.

                            -I actually like bat sounds.

                            - Haptics feel great. Idk if it’s just because I hadn’t played in a year and a half, but the feeling when ball hits the mitt is great.

                            - I love pinpoint pitching so far. I used to skip pitching all together, and this year I’m enjoying it maybe more than batting.

                            - the birds in the outfield actually really make a difference. Lol. Idk why. Maybe because the stadium feels more alive and less static.

-Night lighting seems fine on my end. Might be a calibration issue with certain tvs and HDR. I tested 3 stadiums. All look well lit at night.

I’m a huge stickler for accurate uniforms, so it’s a shame to see inaccuracies when the colors and graphics really bring out some of these Retro uniforms. I really hope they can fix a few of these errors. So far I’m really enjoying the game.

Me and buddy used to switch innings playing people online when we were roommates. It was 2k 10 or 9 one of those.. It was the funnest time i ever had playing a baseball game. The problem with the show is they have no competition anymore. I feel like we've been playing the same game for 8 years. They just add a few tweaks and call it a day.. The game needs a completely new engine , just my opinion. BLOW US AWAY NEXT YEAR

You'll find certain stadiums that, coupled with day games, will drag the frame rate pretty heavy in certain instances (usually a camera pan toward the right/left foul territories). However, I agree, it is smooth most of the time. It's funny because, again...coming from 2K13, it acted the same way. 60fps most of the time unless it was a day game and the camera was directed in those areas.
