Well, I know it wasn't 2K9. The words fun and 2K9 have never been said by anyone .

Yeah, i was expecting this awesome new series that would blow my mind since I've always been told I'm an idiot for enjoying MLB2K (post 2k9). It actually surprised me how similar they both play, and I feel like I'm playing an upgraded version of 2K13 (which is great for me because I had tons of fun with 2K13). I like nearly everything about how The Show plays, and it is fun and competitive. I'm getting the same fun I had with 2K. However, both share a similar problem. Fielder throws are too easy. Once you learn the meter and other offered mechanic choices, you always throw perfect throws (pure analog fielding in The Show is a copy from 2K8). Button accuracy meter is way...way...way too easy. Yet, it's the only mechanic that offers the addition of hitting sweet spots to enhance your throws in precarious situations, so turning it off would be a heavy disadvantage.

Yeah that’s my thinking too. I can’t remember a year where you didn’t have the reward after a conquest, RS, etc game and it’s just gone. Hopefully something that changes, but overall a little disappointing.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread

Some quick impressions after one exhibition game on Series X Game Pass.

Matty V STILL calls them Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. UGH! Still no Honda center behind the freeway over CF. Ohtani's speed is still 66 which is baffling but I can edit that.

Graphics look nice. I can see a difference from the already amazing looking PS4 Pro I played on last year. Heidi Watney player model still needs work though. That face is not nearly as realistic as the players. I did see some clipping with uniforms. One time it looked like a baseball was going bonkers on an OF arm after he made a catch. Seems like there were constantly birds flying in the sky even at night

Load times to start up the game were quicker. It didn't load up the game as fast as I would have hoped but it was probably faster than 20.

I started my profile on All-Star with Dynamic difficulty for hitting and pitching but after 3 innings, I was winning 8-1 and didn't see the update or bar or anything related to any progress the entire game. I was getting XP though.

The throwing meter I used last year is gone. I only have 3 options now; meter, no feedback and off. I made an error on a simple throw to 2nd which allowed my only run of the game. What in the world?? Am I doing something wrong or did they get rid of it?

I do not like that the quick options(up on the dpad) bring up the whole side of the screen now. Same goes for when I just want to see the batters stats. Very odd and I am hoping I can change it somehow. It used to bring it up on the bottom. Way slicker and WAYYYY better.

I LOVE that every home run shows you the distance and velocity in the bottom right corner.
I noticed that on the pause screen, it shows you way more info like all the pitchers stats and what the batter has done that game. VERY COOL!

What's the reason for not having the right first or 3rd base coaches?

Announcers never said the names of the pitchers warming up in the pen. Just right or lefty. Not sure if they actually say their name this year but it's a shame if SDS hasn't added that in yet.

When the game ends, you get a rewards and progress bar now. Very cool. Didn't get any card though.

I couldn't find any options in the menus for 4K or 120FPS or anything like that. Not sure if that's a Series X only kind of thing but usually you can find that stuff within the game menus.

Forgive me if anything was in last years version and I am just forgetting.

These new menus have me all confused! I can't figure out how to view a roster to edit the lineup and stats. *EDIT* Okay it's under create at the top. I still have no idea why it's sooo much different from years past.

It takes WAYYYYY too long to load up a player to edit. Definitely a glitch.

In fact, it bothers me more to see frame drops from 60fps and down, than 40fps and down. It's much more jarring imo. The next gen versions are underwhelming, and I am thinking of selling my console to just go back to the X while the Series X is still in high demand.

I don’t know what version of the series x you’re playing, but I’m getting 60 FPS all the time during gameplay. It only drops on cut scenes.

Playing on the series x and the game looks good. Not as good as NBA2K21 but still good. This is by far the best gameplay in the series. It’s not a HR derby this year and so far the gameplay is solid. I’m also playing on an OLED and the input lag is so good It’s throwing my timing off. I’m swinging early on everything. The input lag being lower than the ps5 version is definitely noticeable and has me all messed up. I noticed the dirt looks sharper and higher texture than the current gen versions as well.

The HDR is also lot better this year.

Either you haven't played enough or you're blind to it. I said on some stadiums, in daylight clear/partly cloudy, if the camera pans towards the foul line, you'll see frame drops. I've ripped many for foul where the dynamic camera follows and stutters. In fact, you can test this by simply using the conditions I've mentioned, going to replay, and rotating around the batter. As soon as the right foul line line and crowd become in view, you'll see the frame rate drop (I'm observing this now at progressive field).

How is the auto baserunning on the Ps5 version. I have the Ps4 and having some of the same issues as discussed last year. Not earth shattering but just curious. Thanks Gents !

Just got the game... ten hours of playing.

                  PROS:
                  • Playability
                  • Graphics
                  • Some new accessories
                  • New audios for some names and last names
                  • New cameras angles, transitions, animations...
                  • New legends
                  • New batting stances
                  • New GUI

                  CONS:
                  • Lack of some accessories that were great
                  • I cannot use what I have on MLBTS20 (franchise and rosters)
                  • They get rid of some legends (Ty Cobb for example)
                  • No immersion at all for legends, classics rosters, etc. I would love to have something like that some day but now it's far away of it

Nice improvements, but IMHO, it's a pity they got rid of some great elements the game used to have.

My first game exhibition with live rosters. I’m a Red Sox fan so naturally I go there. It is tonight’s first game v the jays and the scoreboard on the monster says we are 10-7. We are actually 11-6. The kicker? The rosters showed JD Martinez leading off and Xander Batting 7th. Wtf??

Edit: end of game I won they said I was on an 11 game winning streak. SMH.

Yea that's always been a thing. I usually play with the day before's roster. I don't know if it's because they don't have all the lineups in or what.

But I know exactly what you mean. Because I was playing as the Padres and they had Machado leading off. And I was like wtf.

And then I was playing as the Yankees and I got the obligatory "This team has been on one heck of a run". And that couldn't be farther from the truth lol

Haha ain’t that the truth. Love the ‘run’ the Yankees are on . It’s a great game but the commentary is just off. Almost sounds like they added Matt in to existing commentary as his tone changes.

Oof! It takes 15 seconds for a player you want to edit to load. Also, they took out the R2 shoulder pad to quickly jump thru the names. Now you have to use R1 and scroll thru each page. This is going to really slow down the roster makers.

Buyer Beware: this game is highly addictive! Defense, pin-point pitching and next gen frame-rates are dialed in! Haven’t had this much fun with The Show - ever.

I have not played with pin-point pitching. Does it include a feature in the mechanic to differentiate good, average, poor pitchers?

I’ve used meter in the past and the feature is basically the same for every pitcher.

                                Thanks!
