Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread

Played two games so far on the Series S.

Spent more time in the stadium creator than anything.

First things first, the games looks good overall, but not great. There are too many inconsistencies graphically speaking. The grass and dirt need to be upgraded at this point. The nike logo on the pants is extremely low res compared to the rest of the uniform and textures in the game.

The sweat looks good and it seems to be dynamic and actually fluctuate based on temperature, stress , etc. Very nice addition.

Materials have improved. The numbers on the uniforms have a much more realistic look to them in the different lightings.

The gameplay is as good as ways. I still wish we could have the pitches come in faster than max speed, but oh well. The timing window seems smaller and contact seems harder to get on Legend than last year.

Sonny Gray's slurve is impossible to hit if he is on. I couldn't do anything against the guy as the Cards.

Stadium creator is a blast and a great foundation. Has lots of potential, but they must continue to work on it. What's there now is good for year 1, but not year 2, 3, and so on. It needs another year or two of development at least to see its true potential. There are too many limitations at the moment. Some understandable, others irritating because they seem like oversights or poor design decisions.

Overall, it's another Show release. A quality game with great gameplay on the field. I'm glad it's on GamePass. I haven't touched franchise mode yet, but I already know what to expect. That's the games weakest mode at the moment and the reason I wasn't going to buy it full price before the GamePass announcement.

If you like 20 or other releases, you'll like 21. It plays great on the field, stadium creator adds a lot to the game, imo. I recommend the game unless you are a Y2Y player or someone who has been disappointed with franchise mode recently.

Mookie hit one to dead-center the previous AB and I hit another one later this inning after scuffling for the first couple innings. Finally got my approach back and started sitting on pitches until two strikes. Granted it's a lot easier to hit with the Dodgers than the Pirates.
      What camera angle is that?

2 outs in bottom of the 9th, Paul Goldschmidt broke up Max Scherzer’s no hitter and extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

        Scherzer’s line CG, 1 hit, 0 ER, 3 walks, and 13 strikeouts.

I love baseball and this game portrays the game so damn well. [emoji4]

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

There are a few things I am noticing after 30 games:

WAY too many routine throws from the outfield to the infield are wild and allow the runner to advance..

Auto base running is still way too cautious. A pitch to the backstop results in the runner just staying put on first base. I could do manual running but I don’t like it

I’m noticing that nearly every game I start the first few innings on a nice roll, only to go into a shell and the pitchers confidence skyrockets. This isn’t a complaint about the game, only more so my inept offensive skills

The amount of unique hits is at an all time high. I am seeing a lot of bloopers that I never have before, as well as hard line drives that have a fade to them. Very happy with the hit variety

The shadows really play havoc on you in certain stadiums. I play as the twins, and during day games I have to play with overcast. I had this issue last year where it’s really hard to pick the ball up. Some stadiums are awesome for that, such as Shea, Wrigley and Camden yards. I played some of my home games last year in the metrodome also

The birds circling the outfield were cool at first, but it’s getting a little old. Not as bad as that one stadium (San Diego?) that constantly has airplanes though

I’m 30 games into my 162 game season. I play every pitch and don’t simulate anything. I haven’t touched online or anything like moments. I plan to finish this season and try a White Sox season next. Hell of a value for $99 this year for me. I think 22 will be even better when they can focus on next gen only
Framerate drops are mainly in "cutscenes" but are quite apparent on my Series X.

Custom based on Zoom. All I did was lower the camera slightly to center the pitcher/release point to help me track the ball.

Those that are complaining about bat sounds, I now see(well hear) it. I’ve been playing with my headset and it sounds fantastic. I just played two games with tv sound and it’s terrible!

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread

I'm three games into my franchise, and it's pretty much everything I hoped for at this point.

I enjoyed 20, but 21 feels so much more refined at this point to me. Offense seems to be toned down a bit and the CPU seems to be a little bit tougher for me. I really hope patches don't break that down the line.

Fielding and pitching animations look better to me. Graphics (I'm on PS4 Pro) look a bit better than last year. So many little things I'm noticing. Batters taking a sigh of relief when they take a close pitch on a 2-strike count. Pitchers tossing the ball from their glove to their pitching hand when they get it back from the catcher.

Bat sounds sound perfectly fine to me. I don't have any issue with them. So far, I'm really happy I decided to get 21.

My impressions After 5 days with the game:

The hitting is perfect. I play on hall of game and I love the variety and accuracy. I do have a nice tv with minimal input lag, but don’t remember the hitting being this fluid.

Graphics are actually really good. I think we’ce been spoiled, because apart from the grass, the game looks really nice. Colors are so vibrant and the progressive lighting in these stadiums is so awesome.

Pinpoint pitching is a lot of fun and very rewarding.

The game doesn’t feel cheap, Everything feels earned. Now please just fix the errors on retro uniforms in a patch and I’ll be very happy.

So I'm playing RTTS and had been tearing it up in AA. Had a .349 average with 17Hrs. Get called up to AAA and I went 0-18 to start my AAA career before I finally got my first hit. And I'm just sucking so bad right now. I am batting .217 with 2hrs after about 7 weeks of AAA. Anybody else start sucking once you got called up to AAA? Haha

We haven't been spoiled at all. It's 2021 and most sports games have fantastic graphics. MLB the show for the ps5 has been essentially untouched graphics wise. I honestly expected some improvements, and ultimately received none.

This is the first time I’ve played since ‘17 (I switched to XBOX) I was excited to find that they were finally going to cross platform the game! However, it’s the exact same game, except for a few graphics. I mean it’s baseball, not much to really do to amp up the excitement level in a sim, but to have the exact same commentary, and presentation is pretty sad, but at least they allow us to control the weather in franchise, unlike Madden.

Quick impressions, I've been playing The Show since '09, maybe longer, I can't quite remember. This year, I switched over to the XSX, so I got it on Gamepass and was out of town until Thursday so just getting to playing it quite a bit this weekend:

                          - Gameplay: Better than it's ever been, nothing earth-shattering, but Pinpoint pitching is a welcomed and much needed update. Hitting/fielding feel well balance, no issues at all. I have had a few hesitations going into animations in the field causing a few errors.

-Graphics: I can see some visual improvements to the dirt/field and lighting. The HDR doesn't have any weird issues. But......I had a PS5 at launch and played the Show quite a bit on it, and I don't see a considerable difference overall (like Madden or Fifa).

Commentary - Dear lord, get something fresh. Maybe Boog or something.

-Franchise: This is pretty much all I play, and.......while I haven't seen any really horrible trades/FA signings in some years I've simulated yet. But just overall the mode needs a refresh, it just feels lifeless. Scouting, coaching, and GM Goals haven't been touched in forever. Meanwhile, NHL and Madden have at least tried to make changes to inject life.

-Custom Stadium - Really don't give a sh&t about it, similar to DD in my estimation.
