Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
I've really tried to gove pinpoint a chance, but even with best pitchers, seems if I hit 90% or higher most pitches still out of strike zone, cannot figure out why? Any pointers? This is on All Star. Classic for me until I can figure out what I am doing wrong..

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
Where are you seeing it? I’m also on ps5 and it’s way better to me than 20 was on ps4.
There are a few things I am noticing after 30 games:
WAY too many routine throws from the outfield to the infield are wild and allow the runner to advance..
Auto base running is still way too cautious. A pitch to the backstop results in the runner just staying put on first base. I could do manual running but I don’t like it
I’m noticing that nearly every game I start the first few innings on a nice roll, only to go into a shell and the pitchers confidence skyrockets. This isn’t a complaint about the game, only more so my inept offensive skills
The amount of unique hits is at an all time high. I am seeing a lot of bloopers that I never have before, as well as hard line drives that have a fade to them. Very happy with the hit variety
The shadows really play havoc on you in certain stadiums. I play as the twins, and during day games I have to play with overcast. I had this issue last year where it’s really hard to pick the ball up. Some stadiums are awesome for that, such as Shea, Wrigley and Camden yards. I played some of my home games last year in the metrodome also
The birds circling the outfield were cool at first, but it’s getting a little old. Not as bad as that one stadium (San Diego?) that constantly has airplanes though
I’m 30 games into my 162 game season. I play every pitch and don’t simulate anything. I haven’t touched online or anything like moments. I plan to finish this season and try a White Sox season next. Hell of a value for $99 this year for me. I think 22 will be even better when they can focus on next gen onlyComment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
Start messing around with different cameras. I was having the same issue. Hitting is definitely a little harder this year but I’m noticing the cpu is having the same problem as me. Once I moved to Wide camera my hitting had improved drastically. The game is skewed more towards pitching, no matter what level you play at. A few slider changes and a better camera angle has given me great results.
Well Springer is GONE for Acuna!! Added a prospect and kebryan hayes and got Freeman as wellComment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
Playing on 4 Pro, and I will say this game is smooth, absolutely love it! So many new animations, sounds, sights, interface, etc...really nice!
I have no idea why people are complaining about the ball off bat sounds. Spot on by the sound. You can tell when one is struck well and when one isn't. The devs nailed it.
I know I won't get the classic roster experience with '21, but I will greatly enjoy my franchise this year.Comment

The presentation in franchise mode is improved and well done this yearI can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
I love pin-point pitching but the fears that I had with it from the tech test are evident. Some pitching gestures particularly sliders and splitters from the stretch are just not fun to throw. Yes, they have the feedback meter but I really don't think that helps much as far as making timing adjustments. It's like I have to pick my poison when throwing those pitches and others with certain pitchers. Do I have a well-timed gesture and flub the accuracy or speed through the gesture to make sure I have good accuracy.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
So up front; I wasn't going to buy this game...maybe not ever. I like '20 a lot, and with some of the bugs being reported up front on '21, as well as the lack of Franchise improvement...I was sitting this out. Until my brother got a next gen X-Box and this became a way we could share some fun (he lives across the nation in a high demand job). So SDS gets my $60; but somethings are more important than principals...so here we are.
After a full weekend of sitting on my rear, with no personal responsibilities...I was able to really sink into the Show. I've played every mode outside of RTTS so far, felt like it's probably time for some review/impressions I have. I went into this year knowing that with the pandemic and the likes that expectations should be...low. Some things weren't going to happen and I was going to have to live with that. I was okay with that (thus, why I'd keep '20).
What I Like
1. Gameplay: Let's get this up front; gameplay is great. The on the field game is pretty damn good out of the box, even after 20 or so games using just dynamic difficulty (more on this later). I've got it...generally dialed in. The fielding feels better than ever (and like it actually feels earned), and it's just a good representation, most of the time for a baseball game. Is it perfect? No, that'd be a really silly barometer. But if you're looking for the best representation of baseball out there, and like 90-95% of what it could realistically be...I think this hits that. It's a fun game
What I don't like
1. The Rosters: These are a dumpster fire. I'm really shocked at how bad. Dan Winker of the Cubs is a prime example. Winkler is listed as a SP. His last start was in AA...in 2014. The Cubs were not talking about starting him. He's been really bad, too, over the last 2 years prior. Like really bad. He's an 84ov SP. Prospects have the wrong ages, players like Jake Cronenworth have potentials in the 70's despite being really nice MLB players...it's a dumpster fire. You can tell me "Well with the pandemic, we couldn't do a few things we wanted to". I'd have understood. But not even being able to accurately enter ages, or understanding Dan Winkler isn't a SP? This is the stuff you should nail Easily. It's lazy.
2. Lack of change to franchise mode: Been covered by enough people. No need to rehash.
3. Not being able to play "my" way: For all of the "play your way", you certainly can't. Not being able to earn XP via changing the sliders seems pretty petty. I get it...some people farm things and a jerks...but why is my ability to card collect (I don't play online, but the cards are fun), my ability to get important gear for my RTTS player, or my ability to get things like HR calls/bat flips (creates immersion in my franchise; that way I don't have guys summersaulting around the bases but can have a unique bat flip) nuked because I want to make the sliders more difficult (I play usually around All-star or HoF and tweak sliders down to my needs). This seems like something that's just...a little gross. Anti-consumer.
I don't knows?
1. Road to the Show: I don't know if I like the loadouts because the game's so broken I legitimately don't want to start this. It very well may be a great mode...I just can't tell. With progression being borked, I don't feel like wasting away my game time.
2. Stadium Creator: I'm on PS4. Can't really judge this. It may be great!
Generally speaking, this could be a good game, even with the pandemic caveat. I'd live with the removal of Y2Y saves if they worked on the underhood stuff. I'd live with the bad servers and jacked up vaults if the game played correctly in ever mode. But the issues with the roster stuff just kind of exemplifies the game for me right now; there are some major oversights that just shouldn't happen. RTTS shouldn't be borked right away. The vaults should work. And Dan Winkler shouldn't be a SP. It's all kind of the same stuff that just shouldn't be this way. I figure these will all be fixed down the road...but it shouldn't have to be that way. SDS used to be the good guys. Kind of feel like we're at a stage where they're just another guy.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
More impressions after a lot of time with it...
This game exceeded my expectations from simply being a port to PS5.
Right now the stadium creator is a hot mess and we can not search others creations or make proper domes.
The fact we can not save rosters is also a horrible user experience early on kind of like when we couldnt save slivers back in nba 2k14....
That said, every game looks and plays better than ever. They improved enough on the stadium side of things to make it look better than last years ps4 pros version of mlb 20.
There ARE things i want tho.
1)Cloth physics
2)grass that is like fifas or pes...Brand New Tomba Slider sets ready for Next Gen Versions of NBA,Madden and Fifa Stay Tuned...Comment
