Zack Wheeler not only came within one strike of pitching a no-hitter against me (Goldschmidt hit a ground rule double on a 3-2 pitch with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th), but he drove in the lone run in the 3rd inning that led to a Phillies 1-0 victory.

Wheeler finished 8.2 IP, 11 K's, 3 BB, and one hit. 1 for 2 at the plate with a single, sacrifice bunt, strikeout and RBI

I drew 10 walks in a game against the Pirates last night. Well actually 11, but one was intentional

now that'll make an impression lol
10 walks is hard enough to earn in two games let alone one
and sometimes 10 walks is a good week

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread

The only way I draw walks in video game baseball is to make the pitch count a minigame I play with myself. I want those 15 pitches an inning, and they don't come when I swing at the first pitch strike that is my opponent's best pitch in my cold zone.

And this year's game is exceeding my expectations at this point. I played it for a bit when it dropped, but went back to SMB3 and other stuff. But just got in the mood for some MLB video game baseball, and it's really clicking.

For one, I finally just went with classic pitching. The pinpoint and their version of analog isn't doing it for me. So I'm working on pitch selection and location, essentially. I like that there is still some min/max to using full effort or concentrating on location. You can help weak pitchers limp through situations, while stronger guys can just bear down and get a K.

With classic pitching and directional hitting, it's a pretty chill way to play, but still really engaging and strategic. Been loving it. It's been a long time sinceI found a franchise mode fun to play. But I like the interface.

I've just started a two team franchise, with the Cards and White Sox. Gonna see if I can get them to meet in the World Series. Had been playing ChiSox MtO and two team Playoffs with the Cards and Royals, but decided to go full franchise for the first time in a long time.

One thing I'm not doing is playing much DD. As much as I love these kinds of modes, this one is just dreadfully boring. They've completely lost me, which is fine. There are more than enough modes that provide more than enough to do.

The gameplay and performance may have improved while I took a break, or I was just better ready to play the game. I didn't hate it before, but it wasn't real keeping my interest like it is now.

Might help that I have gone to Fast Play.

I would love to run into Woody Keller while playing Grand Theft Auto so I can express my displeasure with his strike zone

Is every opposing pitcher Tony Gwynn in the batter's box for anyone else? I'm not sure why but opposing pitchers (even AL pitchers in interleague!) just have insane contact rates whenever I pitch to them. It's damn near impossible for me to strike them out since they always get contact on the ball and rarely ever chase on balls.

I love playing the All Star games.

Playing the Futures Game, the AA, AAA, and the MLB all star game, you can really tell the difference in caliber of players between the levels.

                This game is so good.

I hit for the cycle today with Teoscar Hernandez. First time I’ve ever hit for the cycle in years. I was surprised that the commentary didn’t mention anything about it, neither afterwards nor post game.

I’ve been playing The Show for a long time. This is my first year persisting with me and the CPU at HoF level and I’m not going to lie, I’m getting a bit fed up of the CPU consistently coming back the half inning following me putting up some runs. I know it’s a familiar complaint and I’ve never subscribed to the idea that the CPU cheats but I think I need to start messing with the sliders unless somebody has some killer advice to stop it happening. And I’m using he strong Dodgers staff and in almost every other circumstance they’re struggling to get hits. In other words, they’re coming alive consistently after I’ve scored runs.

Not sure there really is advice for this "situation" aside from checking the PITCHER/BATTER ANALYSIS screen so you're not pitching in patterns, hitting your marks, and trying to keep the batters off balance.

With that in mind, traditionally I’ve followed the catchers calls almost 100% but clearly - at least in my opinion - the catchers ability to call the game hasn’t improved to correspond with the hitters ability to take advantage of not mixing up locations and pitch type enough. For example, as a test my catcher just called for the same curve ball low and away three times in a row and the third time I gave up a triple, with the irony that the commentary then criticises the pitcher for “going to the well too often”. My outcomes have certainly improved since I stopped adhering to the catchers call. The catchers ability to call a game and even their chemistry with different pitchers is really something I hope they improve in the future.

I know that others share a difference of opinion, but the trade logic in this year's game is better than what I experienced in '20.

Out of the dozen or so trade deals that went down at the deadline only two had me scratching my head, while the others made sense in my virtual world.

Increasing the budgets for teams has allowed contenders to be more aggressive at the deadline in trying to find that one magical piece that will propel them into October.

I also see somewhat logical trades between the AI.

But if you are wanting to abuse the AI with your user team I find it easier than ever to do so.

As the user I still have to police myself when trading with the CPU.

Myself personally I'm finding it more difficult to trade with the CPU this year.

But in full disclosure I hit the SUGGEST TRADE button to see what their "response" to what I offer. I don't constantly change out players, but rather, see what they want and counteroffer and let them counter etc....

When I got Gallo, the Rangers were persistent in wanting Bryce Denton (23 years old, #38 prospect, A potential) and Junior Fernandez (23 years old, Top 100 prospect, B potential)

The only change I made was giving up Seth Elledge instead of Kodi Whitley. Same type pitcher just I wanted to keep Whitley over Elledge if possible, and they agreed.

I really didn't want to unload Denton and Fernandez, but I really wanted/needed a left handed power bat.

Trade logic seems a little better, but it still needs work. I always check the transactions log after I advance, and if I see something too crazy I back out and reload. I wish they'd give us a trade approval feature like 2K has.

The rebuilding Mariners, for some reason, are hell bent on trading Kyle Lewis in my franchise. And the return usually isn't very good. I've blocked him being moved several times.

And a lot of the guys on the trade block, at least in my franchise, don't make a lot of sense.
