Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

In my franchise my team does defensive shifts automatically. I know I can change it for each batter. My question is this.

Can I turn off automatic drfebsive shifts?

Also in MLB 20 one can hire and fire coaches. However, I have not found thatbpossibility in MLB 21. Does that still exist and if so where would I find it in MLB 21?

      Thanks

Defensive shifts can be changed from Auto to Manual in the gameplay settings. And you can hire/fire coaches under "contracts" and then click "coaches".

The Oakland Athletics are moving to Las Vegas and being renamed to the Devils. The players on the team were released and signed to different clubs. For instance, Matt Chapman went to the Nationals, Matt Olson went to the Diamondbacks, and Sean Manea is with the Marlins. A couple minor leaguers stuck with the Devils; the major pieces were Robert Pauson and Tyler Soderstrom

The Devils will be playing their home games at Wagoman Stadium and will be opening up there against the Astros and Dodgers.

i'll be playing the first game in every home division series and games against teams that have a winning record. all other games will be simmed and i'll be playing all Critical Situations as well and Quick counts will be on for all games.

The Devils brought in two players in the Spring both game generated, CP Juan Alonso and 3B Tim Wendell. Juan Alonso is 22 with B Potential a game generated player. While Tim Wendell is 28 with B Potential has 80 contact verse Lefties brought him in to Platoon with Greg Garcia.

Love doing a home-made expansion draft! I did one last year where I did a dispersal draft 1st (Sent player out based on the regular amateur draft position), then used MLBTR's mock expansion draft list that they did last year (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...mII/edit#gid=0).

I wish they'd do again this year. Enjoy!

I used this as well last year, and combined it with using an expansion draft in OOTP

Baseball noob here. Do you guys recommend playing with the extra-inning rule and universal DH on or off for a long-term franchise? I'm leaning toward no on the first one since it's only for the regular season, but is a universal DH coming to baseball anytime soon?

That's a question which will prompt divisive opinions, lol.

IMO, there's really no "best way" to set those two options from a mode "balance" perspective. Keeping DH on (or in AL only - which is the default) probably helps the CPU balance rosters a bit better; but beyond that, there's no real "best solution".
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

Universal DH is probably coming next year, IRL. I played with it on last year and had a lot of fun. But I'm back to traditional rules this year, and it just feels right to have the pitcher hitting in the NL.

                          But it's really personal preference.

The Devils have gotten off to a 13-14 start about where I expected them to be. The team has basically been average in every stat so far while the bench has been nonexistent. Might make some moves with some call ups going forward if the bench bats can't hit their weight.

Hitting highlights from the month of April: Jedd Gyorko leads the team with a .325 Batting Average while Edwin Encarnacion has 7HR. Hyun Soo Kim and Darnell Sweeney are both hitting above .280. On the bench everyone is hitting Below .200

Pitching highlights from the month of April: Cole Hamels has been the ace with a 3.32 ERA. Rick Porcello has struggled with a 5.81 ERA. In the Pen both Pedro Strop and David Robertson have been dominating. Strop has 12 K’s in 6 innings pitched.

Hoping to go into May and improve on the record. The second half of the month is all division games so it will be key to finish strong.

                            Notes:
Tim Wendell was placed on the 10 day IL with a Head Contusion. Yeyson Yrizarri was called up to take his place.

Cardinals split series with last place Pirates

The Cardinals split their 4 game weekend series with the Pirates in St.Louis and now are sitting 6 games behind the first place Brewers in the NL Central.

The series had some theatrics, including a Tommy Edman walkoff homerun in the 12th inning on Sunday, as well as an Andrew Miller blow up on Thursday that led to his dismissal and eventual trade to the Indians.

Two brightspots in the series was Nolan Arenado recording 8 hits in the series including 3 homeruns and 2 homeruns and he only struck out once. Adam Wainwright looked good in his return to the rotation as he recorded his 4th win on Saturday putting together 6 innings of work with only 2 strikeouts, but only allowed 3 runs against 8 hits and 2 walks.

The Cardinals will remain at home to close out the month of June against the struggling Diamondbacks.

Cardinals send Andrew Miller to Indians for cash

The Cardinals have agreed to send LHP Andrew Miller to the Indians for cash considerations. The Indians will pay the rest of Miller's contract for the year giving the Cardinals additional budget at their disposal to make roster moves next month, should they choose, for a postseason run.

Andrew Miller was designated for assignment for a few days ago after a blow up in the late innings against the Pirates, costing the Cardinals a victory and his spot with the club.

The Cardinals have yet to make a corresponding roster move to fill the vacancy in the bullpen.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
