Cardinals offensive woes continue in series loss to Mets in New York

The Cardinals (28-21) dropped 2 of the 3 games they played in Queens against the Mets during the week. The Cardinals avoided the sweep by winning Thursday's get away day game.

The offense really never made an appearance this series as the Cards would score just 5 runs in the series, 4 of those in Thursday afternoon's victory.

Consistent production offensively has been an issue all season long although you could attribute some of that to the rash of injuries the Cardinals have faced this season.

The Cardinals will make the short trip to Pittsburgh for a 3 game weekend series with the Pirates before returning home Monday to face the Marlins.

Cards bats show some life in Steel City as they take series against Pirates

The Cardinals (30-22) showed some life in their bats during the 3 game weekend series with the Pirates in route to a series win.

The Cardinals scored 8 runs on Friday night and followed that up with 11 runs on Saturday as the Cardinals won the first two games of the series. Sunday, the bats were decent putting up 4 runs, but unfortunately the bullpen had an off day costing the Cards the sweep.

Tommy Edman earned 7 hits this series in 10 at-bats including 2 triples and a double. Brandon Nimmo found his stroke again belting 3 homeruns this series and Paul Goldschmidt continues his batting title pace as his average climbed to .338 at series end.

Unfortunately the Cardinals couldn't pull off the sweep as the bullpen exploded allowing 7 runs over 3 innings when the Cards led 4-1 going to the bottom of the 6th. The Pirates scored 3 in the 6th, 1 in the 7th and 3 in the 8th to come from behind and avoid the sweep.

The Cardinals will head home for a 3 game series with the Marlins starting on Monday.

Paul DeJong to the IL with hamstring strain

As if the Cardinals needed another injury, Paul DeJong landed on the 10 Day IL due to a hamstring strain suffered Saturday against the Pirates. DeJong was running down a ball in the hole and pulled up lame.

He's only expected to miss about 2 weeks before returning.

The Cardinals have recalled rookie Nolan Gorman from Springfield to fill yet another roster vacancy brought on by injury.

          2022 Baltimore Orioles 05/17-05/19

          Overall Record:19-20 (2ND AL EAST)

          Game Results

          05/17
          Orioles-1
          Angels-2

          05/18
          Orioles-7

          05/19
          Orioles-7
          Angles-0

Severino's big series leads Baltimore to victory

Pedro Severino took off game one of the series Vs. the Angels. That game resulted in a 2-1 loss for Baltimore.

Severino did play games two and three in the series and in those games he performed very well to a tune of three home runs and seven RBI's. His performances propelled the Orioles to another series victory in May.

With the victory in the third game, Baltimore moves to 19-20 and despite being a game below .500, the Orioles are in second in the AL East and only one game behind the Yankees (20-19).

The Orioles have another tough test coming up with another three game series against the 21-18 Houston Astros.

Ken Grubb did suffer an injury in his one game of the series as he dove for a ball that ended up foul. Luckily, his bruised shin should only see him out for around a week.

Made it to the end of August with the Braves at 69-60. Not bad, but still more than 10 games out of both the division and the wild card with the Mets and Padres killing it. And as I'm not ready to say goodbye to this team (and I regret not using the Universal DH), I've decided to restart with the final ratings update. I've already taken the Final Full Minors roster and made a few changes to my liking (mostly just a few position adjustments to guys who they had out of position) and updated player ratings up to the end of the regular season update waiting for today's final update. It'll be fun to play with the probably juiced Braves.

Orioles sweep Astros, climb above .500 and take over 1st in AL EAST

What a series for the Orioles! Baltimore achieved their first series sweep of the season over the weekend vs. the Houston Astros. The Astros were without Jose Altuve who is out with what is officially listed as "Damaged Knee Cartilage" and is still expected to be out until July of even into August. In 27 games this season, Altuve has a .286 AVG has hit 5 HRs and has 13 RBIs. Dee Strange-Gordon has taken over the leadoff spot and the 2B position since Altuve has been out. In 36 games this season, Gordon has a .318 AVG, 3 HR and 14 RBI.

The series started off with a close game that saw both teams with one run after nine innings. In extras, both teams exchanged runs in the 10th and in the 11th, Houston scored another run while Baltimore added two to take the walk off victory 4-3. Conner Green was superb on the mound as he pitched a full nine inninings allow just two hits. Unfortunately, one of those hits was a Kyle Tucker home run in the top of the 9th which forced the game into extra innings.

The second game saw Baltimore make the most of their opportunities as the Orioles scored five runs on five hits while Taijuan Walker pitched a great game of his own (9.0 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO)

The third game was a back and forth affair until the Orioles scored three in the bottom of the 9th to take the game 8-7 and the series sweep.

Baltimore will look to continue their now five game winning streak as they travel to Tampa to face the Rays (18-22) in a three game set. So far Tampa is leading the season series 2-1.

Not a offline franchise, but a online league H2H game where the cardinals improved on a 12 game win streak. (Me) CARDINALS CF Dylan Carlson hit 4 home-runs in a game. The team hit 7 total.

O's winning streak reaches eight with sweep of Rays

The Baltimore Orioles swept their second series in a row in a three game set against their division rivals, the Tampa Bay Rays. The winning streak of eight games matches the team's entire month of April when the team was 8-14.

The series saw strong pitching by the Orioles and an offensive explosion in game two that lead to the sweep.

In that game two, the Orioles had homeruns from five members of their lineup, Marwin Gonzalez, Michael Brantley, D.J. Stewart, Ryan Mountcastle and Anthony Santander. D.L. Hall did not pitch very well (10 hits in 5.0 IP) but thanks to his team's offensive performance, he didn't have to and improved to 3-1 on the year.

Game three saw another great performance by Conner Green (6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R). While the offense did just enough to get the victory (7 H 3 R).

The month of May is almost over and the draft is quickly approaching. Baltimore will end the month with three games in New York Vs. the Mets and one game at home Vs. Washington.

Orioles carry thirteen game winning streak into June

The Orioles are as hot as can be or at least are doing what is necessary to win their games. With the twelve game streak to end May, Baltimore finished the second month of the season 21-6, a major turnaround from their 8-14 April.

The team is still near the bottom of the league in just about every offensive category like their .229 team batting average (29th) and 190 runs (22nd) but they seem to get the hits and runs when it is most needed. The defense and pitching is mostly on the other end of the spectrum with the teams .997 fielding percentage (1st), 3.29 team ERA (5th) and 168 runs allowed (5th).

Even with the teams offensive woes, thirteen straight is still thirteen straight and no one can complain about that. That streak will be tested in the first full series of June as Baltimore welcomes Atlanta to town with their MLB leading 36-14 record.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

Been a few since I've updated as things have come up.

                        Cardinals go 13-15 in June

The Cardinals (40-36) went 13-15 in the month of June and now sit in 2nd place in the NL Central division 4 games behind the Reds.

June was a roller coaster month as the Cardinals never could get things going after winning 3 straight to open the month. The Cardinals would experience a 5 game losing streak at one point as the bullpen was highly inconsistent and even the starting pitching was below its standard for the month. The Cardinals did end the month on a 3 game winning streak as they head into July with hopes of turning things around as they begin to get players back from the IL.

Nolan Arenado and Tyler O'Neill will return this month (Arenado after the all-star break, O'Neill about a week before the break) which will hopefully be a shot in the arm for an offense that continues to go in fits and starts.

One bright spot has been the play of prospect Nolan Gorman who was recalled from Springfield as the Cardinals kept trying different players at 3rd base (Edmundo Sosa, Yairo Munoz, and Nick Dunn) but none could make the position theirs as the Cards tried to get to the return of Arenado. Gorman has hit .275 with 2 homeruns and 9 RBI's since his call up and while he won't hold the everyday job when Arenado returns, its likely Gorman will stay with the big league club, as its likely Nick Dunn will be sent down, if not traded before.

The other brightspot has been Junior Fernandez who lost the closer job at Memphis, but since being in with the big league club, has pitched 5 innings with 8 strikeouts and only one hit and one walk allowed. Fernandez was recalled as the Cardinals bullpen kept blowing up and the likes of Seth Elledge, Jordan Hicks, Kodi Whitley, and Hansel Robles were a revolving door of being in St.Louis and Memphis as the Cards looked to steady the bullpen.

The Cardinals will likely look for bullpen help as the trade deadline approaches and may even be on the lookout for another starter as they try to patch holes in the pitching staff. As for position players, its hard to fathom the Cardinals making a play for anyone as their biggest needs will be resolved, or expected to be resolved, by the return of O'Neill and Arenado.

Time for the craziness of July with the All-Star games and trade frenzy upcoming.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Orioles take series over Braves 2-1

The Orioles' winning streak made it to fourteen before coming to an end with an extra innings loss to the Braves on Saturday. After the loss, the O's bounced back with a 7-5 victory in a back and forth final game of the series.

That third game was won with a Michael Brantley two run walk off homer in the bottom of the 9th. Along with Brantley, Rio Ruiz, Carlos Correa and DJ Stewart also had homers. The Braves had two of their own (Acuna and D'Arnaud).

The Orioles didnt have their usual good pitching in this game as Keegan Akin was knocked around to the tune of 11 hits in just six innings of work. Still, the team was able to do what was needed to limit the damage from those 11 hits.

The Orioles will now travel to Texas for a four game series with the Rangers (17-35).

Cardinals acquire Kirby Yates from Orioles for prospects

The Cardinals took a step in adding stability to their bullpen by acquiring Kirby Yates from the Orioles for two prospects.

                            Cardinals get:

                            RHP Kirby Yates

                            Orioles get:

                            2B/3B Nick Dunn
                            RHP Jared Walsh

The Cardinals bullpen has been a sore spot most of the year with the likes of Seth Elledge, Genesis Cabrera, Giovanny Gallegos, Jordan Hicks, and Hansel Robles revolving between St.Louis and Memphis as they have been consistently inconsistent this season. With the acquisition of Yates, the Cards are hopeful they will help bridge the gap to get the ball into the hands of Roberto Osuna, Daniel Norris, and Alex Reyes to close out games.

Yates had 14 saves with the Orioles this year and a 3.34 ERA. He has 37 strikeouts in 31.1 innings of work.

The Orioles are a team that is rebuilding and adding Nick Dunn (25 years old) and Jared Walsh (26 years old) they get two players capable of playing at the major league level (Dunn was on Cards active roster) as they look to build depth to compete in the American League. Jared Walsh was actually in Single A at the time of the trade after just returning from injury, but has the stuff to pitch in the big leagues.

Not sure if the Cardinals will make any additional moves as they will shortly welcome back both Tyler O'Neill and Nolan Arenado in the coming days which should provide a shot in the arm to the offense as well as the defense for the Cardinals.

Cardinals activate Tyler O'Neill from 60 Day IL

The Cardinals have activated OF Tyler O'Neill from the 60 Day IL where he was placed when he suffered a torn groin back in May.

O'Neill was hitting .291 with 4 homeruns and 18 RBI's thru 27 games when he was sidelined with the injury. He wasn't expected to return until after the All-Star break but is returning a week sooner.

O'Neill will hopefully provide a spark in a lineup that has been dormant for several weeks now as the Cards look for consistent production from anyone other than Tommy Edman and Paul Goldschmidt.

With O'Neill returning, the Cardinals elected to sent OF Dylan Carlson to Memphis until at least after the all-star break to see if he can't find his swing. Carlson is hitting just .210 and striking out in over 30% of his at-bats this year.

We're down to the final two weeks of the 2021 season. Most of the playoff races are over or all but over.

                                National League
The Braves have won the East and are close to securing home-field throughout the playoffs. The Dodgers have clinched a playoff spot and are closing in on the West title and the second seed. The Brewers have separated themselves in the Central.

The Padres will likely get the first wild card. The only real race left is the wild-card race where the Mets have a 2.5 game lead on the Reds. A seven-game losing streak pretty much sunk the Cardinals playoff chances.

                                American League
The Astros clinched the West and the Yankees' magic number is down to 1 to win the East. They're neck and neck though for home-field.

The White Sox and Twins continue to battle for the Central title and the chance to avoid the wild-card game. The Red Sox hold a two-game lead over the Indians for the second wild card.
