As you know this past offseason in my franchise was met with challenges when I experienced a hiccup or two that forced me to re-do parts of my offseason which bugged me. But I went through it and then went through Spring Training, had another scare although it worked out.

But in any event I remind of that to say this, I feel so disconnected with my franchise right now. I've played 10 regular season games, and while I still thoroughly enjoy the game, my connection to my "team" and franchise just isn't there. And a lot, actually all of it, has to do with how the offseason went and then the other hang up.

Re-starting the offseason again isn't something I'm going to do, but something I considered was simulating this season (and by simming meaning quick manage every game) and then seeing if going into a fresh offseason and going through it will help. Also thought about just starting completely over, year 1, but I don't know that I could enjoy that. I don't want to stop playing because I enjoy playing the game far too much.

I know the best solution is probably just tough out the next 152 games, but I've never felt this disconnected with my franchise.

And I know that ultimately its my decision because its my virtual world, but just looking for feedback/ideas because at the moment I have little interest in playing my franchise.
Dang CB I hate to read this!!! What exactly went bad in the off-season? I know how you feel, due to over my years of franchise gaming something going bad in the off-season that "was my fault 1000%" because I wasn't paying enough attention. Then not wanting to redo everything push on, and try to make a story line in my head to make it work out.

Brother, not sure what the issue was but I say do what your gaming heart tells you to do without starting a new chise. Man you will get your head back in it that I know!!!

There was a glitch/issue where I released Joey Gallo during the exclusive negotiation period instead of declining his team option and he disappeared from the game, only to later in the offseason show up on my roster with a salary of all 9's. Because of this I couldn't do roster moves, nor release him so my only recourse was to start over and decline his team option.

Messed up some of the signings that had happened and trades amongst the league which really bummed me out because there were some intriguing roster moves. Since that happened I've felt disconnected from the franchise and having a hard time getting into it.

I'm wanting to keep this thing going as I'm hopeful that Y2Y saves will return, but just struggling to find the connection with all that's happened.

At the moment, while pondering this at work instead of working , I'm leaning towards simming this season and seeing if getting to a new offseason and all doesn't get me reconnected.

But that is subject to change in 5 minutes...
This is a tricky predicament and I know what it is like to feel "disconnected". Whatever you do, don't do anything rash (like delete existing saves).

I'm going to offer a thought should you decide to try something different: try a Cardinals franchise with Bacon's fictional roster. You might feel a bit "off" at the beginning - you will have minimal foreknowledge of players, but that can really pay-off because you are forced to dig deep into organizations. It might really scratch an itch that is often missing from real-life based rosters. (and I think you'd really enjoy the additional nuances gameplay-wise that his ratings approach allows...)

Visiting something completely different like this might be a distraction for a while and even if you don't get fully ensconced into it, it may allow you to reset your mindset a bit on your existing chise.

I'd like to thank everyone for their feedback and suggestions on my "crisis".

I spent last evening and today Quick Managing through my season as I felt this was the best recourse to help me get out of my funk given what had happened and I'm happy to say it worked!

With me being involved with all the games to a degree (including minor league) and teams making trades and roster moves over the course of the season, I was able to get that feeling back that this was my virtual universe and am excited once again to play my franchise.

Yes its silly and yes it makes no sense, and yes it sucks to have to "sim" a year and not play, but I went though this when trying to go from '16 to '18 a few years ago and while it wasn't ideal then either, it helped keep me involved in my franchise without "dreading to play games to get past whatever was hanging me up", if that makes any sense whatsoever.

Anyways, I'm hopeful to conclude everything tonight and get through the end of season and start the offseason so that I can get back to actually playing the game again and having fun in my franchise.

Sorry for the ramble, but for the first time in several weeks, playing MLB '21 is enjoyable without feeling like a chore.

              2024 Season Wrap Up

The Cardinals finished the season at 91-71 which was good enough to win the National League Central, as it was not as competitive as many believed at the start of the season. But not only did we surprise the league, and ourselves by reaching the 90 win plateau and winning the division, we advanced to the NLCS where we lost in 5 games to the eventual World Series Champion Dodgers.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

                Hi all

I usually don't post much on here, but felt like chiming in. I've lurked on the forum for a few years now, so I'm familiar with a lot of you guys!

I'm a weird Franchise player - I usually play a handful of games a season and simulate the rest. I just like building dynasties and seeing how long I can sustain a period of success.

Fortunately, in this game, it's not that hard to build a successful team lol. It does get boring at some times (I am currently ~trying~ to lose in my Angels franchise) but I get really invested in my players, especially ones I draft. I love to see their careers play out.

For example, I believe I am in 2059 or 2060 in my current Angels franchise. I just had to play with Trout and Ohtani, though the latter is, as we all know, completely broken in the game, and it was hard to utilize him to the best I know he could be. Still, I got Trout 2 rings and never had a losing season with him.

Or ever. Seriously. I have never had a losing season. I think I went 20 straight years with 100 win seasons. It was bizarre. I've never been ~this~ good at building a team before. (Also I signed Thor before it happened - I most definitely called it). I'm not even an Angels fan, I'm a Mets fan, but I actually don't like using them that much.

Anywho, just wanted to share some notable players. Jordan Lawlar, I believe a SS in the ARI system(?), was an absolute unit for me and became a HOFer. 500+ HR and never moved off the SS position until becoming a DH for his last two years.

Trout, an obvious HOFer, I believe finished just shy of the HR record. Juan Soto, picked him from the Nats (I had a disgusting OF of Soto/Trout/Bryan Reynolds it was filth) also retired a HOFer with 560+ HR.

The last notable player I wanted to mention was a homegrown star (drafted in like 2030~ so ... very not real) who became a HOFer. Iriving Ramirez, 1B - remember the name. I have never seen such sustained career success before. It took him until his final, 16th year, to hit below .300, consistently cranking 30+ homers and driving in 100 runs 14 times. Dude was unreal. Finished with over 520 HR. Dude had like 3 rings.

That's the kind of stories I stick around in my franchise for. It's so funny getting to the part of the franchise where no one is real and it's all generated players. Though, for '22, assuming it comes out, I would like to take a stab at slowing down and playing out an entire season with more realistic sliders and a play/quick manage/sim/player lock sort of approach. We shall see! Cheers!

J Lawler is a really good young player in the game to grab if you're doing a rebuild.

Cardinals re-sign Mike Schildt to 3 year deal

The Cardinals and manager Mike Schildt agreed to a 3 year deal for him to remain the manager of the Cardinals. Shildt and his staff were in the final year of their respective contracts last year and with the successful season they put together, the Cardinals were happy to welcome Schildt back as their skipper.

Who else from the staff returns remains to be seen, but one name that we know will not return is hitting coach Manny Acta who has decided to retire from the game.

Oh absolutely, he was a stud! 10/10 would recommend. Elite hitting [all touched high 80's if not 90's], discipline and fielding. Even swiped some bags. Good pickup for any rebuild franchises

Cardinals re-sign Michael Wacha to one year deal

The Cardinals and Michael Wacha have agreed to a one year $7M deal.

The 34 year old returned to the Cardinals last season and was a vital component to the Cardinals success last year. Wacha was given the opportunity to return to the rotation for the Cardinals last year and he did not disappoint. Wacha went 18-5 in 27 starts with an ERA of 3.31.

Wacha will be counted on to help stabilize what was easily the weakest part of the Cardinals ball club last year.

Cardinals re-sign Mike Maddux to staff...add Mike Matheny

The Cardinals and pitching coach Mike Maddux agreed to a 3 year deal for Maddux to return as the club's pitching coach. Maddux did a masterful job last season with a staff that was patchwork at best and helped that unit keep the Cardinals in more games than it didn't as they clinched the NL Central Division.

The Cardinals are also adding a familiar name to the staff as Mike Matheny signed a 3 year deal to be the club's hitting coach. Matheny who played for the Cardinals and managed the club, was out of baseball last year after losing his job with the Royals. Matheny will replace former hitting coach Manny Acta who retired at the end of the season last year.

Cardinals decline Alex Reyes team option but re-sign him to one year deal

The Cardinals declined RHP Alex Reyes team option for $7.5M this year, but the two sides agreed to a one year deal at a lesser value.

The 30 year old and the Cards agreed to a $3.5M deal after re-negotiating his contract. Reyes who was the NL Reliever of the Year in 2022 has struggled each of the past two seasons, with last year being the worst as the hard throwing right hander posted a 5.68 ERA, but he did save 41 games.

This is a revalue contract where Reyes will get the opportunity to show that he's more the 2022 version than the last two seasons version and hopefully land that big contract he is seeking.

Tyler O'Neill and Jordan Hicks to test free agency

The Cardinals primary focus this offseason was to resign Tyler O'Neill and Jordan Hicks during the exclusive negotiation period, but both players have decided to see what their value is on the open market.

The exclusive period ended without either player accepting the deal put forth by the Cardinals. Tyler O'Neill is seeking an AAV of $31M per year but the Cardinals didn't get close to that instead offering a 4 year $110M deal which is a $27.5M AAV. Jordan Hicks was seeking around $10M AAV but the Cardinals offered a 2 year $17M deal with a player option for the 2nd season.

Now the Cardinals must bid against the open market for the services of both players. Maybe the market will agree with the Cards, or it could force the Cardinals to decide if they want to stretch their dollars to re-sign both players.

The only players the Cardinals re-signed were RHP Alex Reyes and Michael Wacha.

Other Cardinals free agents who didn't receive contract offers:

                                RHP Giovanny Gallegos
                                RHP Hansel Robles
                                LHP Tyler Webb
                                IF Marwin Gonzalez
                                C Austin Nola

Let the free agency frenzy begin!
