The current presentation and commentary is a major part of the reason why I love this series' franchise mode more than any other out there. They weave in so many little elements into franchise's presentation (e.g. the road to the show report, discussion of a player's recent performance, the various game storylines) that add layers to the franchise experience - I want to at least know that all of those different franchise-specific elements have been incorporated with the new commentary team (not to mention the generic player name database audio).

Look....if they've done all that with the new team....I'll be on-board with stating that it could be an improvement.

I'll be curious what Thursday brings....

Read the Polygon article from a few posts above. It seems like they really worked hard on the commentary the past few years

Sorry man....I'm not at all trying to be a downer.

I just try to take news objectively (whether the initial impulse is to be excited or disappointed) until we get more specifics.

I know you're not I'm just kinda messing around. But the wait and see approach is always a good one to take.

Re: MLB The Show '22 - New Commentary Team

I was really thinking about holding off on buying this game, but the improvements in gameplay and now a new commentary team. I think this has moved the needle for me in purchasing.

I'm still playing '21. I've got 19 games left in the season of my Cubs franchise. After that, I will take a break and probably buy '22.

I never would have thought they would take Matty V. out of the game. I like Matt, but it was long overdue. I didn't really like Derosa and Pleasac.

            I'm actually excited now.

I have always like Matty V. I wish they would have added these new announcers as another option rather than replaced them (like NBA 2K has two announcing crews). That would have freshened it up but still had all the work they had for past 10 plus years of Matty V.

I think even way back Tony Larussa baseball had 3 different announcers to choose from.

                Wow!

Jon Sciambi and Chris Singleton are your new commentary team.
As long as Derosa is gone, I'm happy. I hate playing without commentary, but his takes were like nails on a chalkboard to me. I wish I could have just muted him and kept the PBP.

I had mostly disliked The Show's commentary, but it had really improved, so this seems like it will be good. But it could also be just as bad.

If it is anywhere near 2ks commentary than we are in for a real treat! We'll obviously know more later on this week when they do the stream.

If it is a new system, then I would not be placing such high expectations. If it were easy, then every sports game would have them.

But I'm actually happy with NHL's current team and Madden's. I don't need them to be 2K quality. Two commentators are all you needs, and a third can take something that would be good, and turn it awful or awesome.

And that is subjective! So everyone has a different want. There is rarely a sweet spot, and even 2K struggles with this at times. So dropping to a two person team is smart, even if their plans are to expand on it later.

In this day and age, spot's like Heidi's need to be updated weekly. They could even do a thing where she does one take for current games, and then do a generic version that can be used in different situations, to build a catalog.

But I'm not sure MLB generates the revenue to make that a cost-effective priority, where it works really well in Madden.

When I say 2k, I meant MLB and not NBA, even though NBA 2K's commentary is still really good. But it sounds good to me bc I don't play it religiously and daily like I do with The Show. I don't expect greatness right off the bat with this new commentary team, but I do have faith that these two will be a breath of fresh air. I'm glad they've been working on this for the last 3 years, that gives me hope. And also that they're adding in commentary from real games should make it feel more authentic.

I bet there's a few people that weren't going to buy it that will buy it now. This is a big change for the franchise that nobody really expected. I for one, never thought that Matty V would ever be gone.
