Thanks! Can’t tell you how annoying that was last year with the name database so limited. I get it a little since it was there first year but the team in 21 and prior releases had so many first and last names

It would be interesting to see how many they had in 2006.

I’m not in charge of what gets recorded but that was 15 years’ worth of Vasgersian working on the game. Those built up over time. Boog is on his third year of recording. There are only so many recording hours available. It’s like a budget. You have to get the most bang for the buck based on those hours. Game content is obviously more important than the names database. Plus, just imagine how mind numbing it would be to record 5000 names. Anyway, that’s a little bit of behind the scenes about how the sausage is made. I hope it helps.

I don’t even remember if we had added the names database yet in 2006. Anybody remember?

I wanna say 08. I remember that because 07 was the year I got married, and I was in the first database. I think I even got paperwork for it.

another thing to consider, the database of names called out by Boog and Carlucci
is actually higher than just the names you can visually SEE in the database.
you get what amounts to as little easter eggs, with players like Adley Rutschman and Terrin Vavra
who get their names announced, but you can't visually see their names, yet they are indeed there.
and that's just a couple of guys I know of offhand on the Orioles.
who knows how high the true number is, we can only count a partial amount of names called,
not the final and true number

                  Paperwork? Very official.

I remember just throwing my name out in one of those threads we used to have here and hoping for the best.

I'm pretty sure they sent me something to sign. Maybe because it was the first year they did it.

The addictive part of this would be winning, right? And it's more often against another person because they usually give more of a challenge/are less predictable than CPU. But again I say this as someone who just plays the CPU in sports games, so my perspective is skewed.
I believe it’s pretty well-established that a lot of these games are in fact using casino-tier tactics aimed at keeping players as addicted as possible. Also note that paying real money for randomized rewards is gambling. Neat-o feature of a E-rated game, eh?

A few guys saying DD doesn’t incentivize buying stubs so I guess I’ll take their word for it, I’ve never tried it personally. But I think the simple fact is that we have a monetized mode vs a free mode, and you simply can’t monetize a simple MLB simulator the same way you can a collect-a-thon intrinsically designed to keep your attention.
                      Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.

Yes, it is true that the announcers say the names for a number of players even though the names are not in the database. However, these additional names are not available when editing a player. (However, a person with sound file editing software could probably create name files for the database from these)

I hope they plan to eventually add back all the names that were lost in the transition to a new announcer team though clearly this would be a multi-year project.

I remember doing this as well, it was like a talent agreement or something like that.

Like Mills just said, there’s a reason they’ve mentioned it so many times already.

I never filled anything out paperwork-wise. I just commented on a thread here at OS and magically my name was in the game the next year!
