I'm personally taking a little different stance on this. I'm enjoying my franchise in '22 so much that I'm not sure SDS can present anything that would sway me to buy. Now in year 5, I've just got SO many storylines that I want to see through to the end.

If anything, the gameplay reveal made it that much easier for me to pass on this year's game, at least until I feel like I got some "closure" on my current franchise.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

I get it. I took '22 pretty far and I'm ready for '23 with some of these updates and a fresh start. New animations, new schedule format, updates to franchise/draft etc. Definitely got my money's worth with '22 that's for sure, great game.

But yesterday's stream mostly didn't have anything to do with how I play the game so it didn't move the needle for me as much as some of the other stuff will. I'll be more interested in the stuff they show us later. Hoping that clutch rating isn't "overblown"......
Clutch and more strikeouts are what I am worried will be overdone. Like I said earlier, I never had an issue getting strikeouts, and those long at bats were pretty rare with good pitchers. It should be harder to put hitters away with middle of the line, or below average pitchers. But I'll reserve judgement until I see it for myself. The clutch thing has the potential to be really good or really bad depending on how it's implementd.

Unless I’m drunk pick off artist is already in the game.

At least with the schedule changes and playoff format, you can buy 23 and play that til the end and not get 24. With the new schedules it would make future seasons better because you will play everybody.

I LOVE that we are finally getting Old Comiskey in a game, even if it's from 1911-1951 era or whatever it was.

I saw on YouTube that there was an Old Comiskey Park created by a user in the 2022 version, but I didn't have a ps5. Hopefully someone creates the most current before it was demolished as I do now own a ps5. I can't wait to buy this game!

                My thought as well.

For those who aren't sure what we are referring to, for example: if you play as an NLC team and in the old schedule format they were playing say the ALE or ALW for interleague, it would not change off of that in the following seasons. Now with everyone playing everyone, this is not an issue.

The only time I didn't really mind this as much is when it was ALC v NLC, ALW v NLW, and ALE v NLE.

                  - I don't use button accuracy so the throw meter stuff does little for me. Acknowledging that this may still have spill-over effect for button throwing with no meter, but throwing errors were not really the issue in my experience, it was the lack of fielding errors. So while this will impact the game for us clean-screen guys as well, it boils down (for us) to just being a re-tuning and nothing notable.

                  - I don't use the swing feedback display so none of that stuff matters to me. Hopefully it will keep the online guys from whining so much.

                  - Don't play comp, so don't care about that tuning. That said, hopefully none of those changes will spill over into simulation style (I don't think they will in all fairness).

                  - DH in DD. Pretty pointless addition (for me) with the lack of 9 inning game content in the mode for offline players.

                  ....then the clutch thing....

It fundamentally does not make sense to me. "Clutch" is rather dubious as a concept to begin with - there's tons of sample size noise and bias to appropriately measure it. Now SDS is using it as a complete replacement for the fundamental hitting/pitching ratings (which are generated on significantly larger sample sizes). From a player authenticity (i.e. ratings-generation) perspective, this is a questionable decision IMO. The bigger question though is will the AI be given the appropriate programming to understand this fundamental change in the game's design? Will it properly weigh higher clutch values in high-leverage, run-scoring situations (for pinch-hitting/pitcher changes)? This is something that should have been addressed last night.

So, for me, this was a very lackluster development cycle but given how darn near perfect '22 was for my style of play, that may or may not be a bad thing....though the clutch thing is the wild card.
Good points. Especially about the AI. They can’t get the AI to properly manage lineups and bullpen usage. Might be asking too much with the AI.

The AI doesn’t do defensive subs to put a better defender in with leads. They hardly pinch hit. You see it rarely in the 9th inning.

                    Man, I don't know.

This thread really made me miss the old OS where there was genuine excitement and love for this game.

I walked away from the stream looking forward to the new additions, tweaks and improvements. This team really listens to the community and tries to address things that need fixing. Of course, not everyone's requests and demands are going to be met but sometimes, hate to say it but, y'all are asking for a lot given the time and resources it's been made known to us several times by the devs themselves.

The premiere was about gameplay and the most liked comments in this thread are about the graphics. I may be in the minority but when I sit down and play this game, I thoroughly enjoy looking at it and just playing baseball.
Some of you are saying it should look like a real-life baseball broadcast that you are controlling on a console (not a PC). I've come to accept that I love this game and will continue to play it, why? Because the gameplay aspect is top notch, and it looks good to me.

I think the Operation Sports community I remember is long gone and frankly won't be coming back.

I feel the same. To each their own I guess. I find myself looking at the game and loving it. I mean, its not like I work for SDS and am trying to sell the game. If I didn't love it, I wouldn't play it or look forward to '23.

I haven't lost an ounce of love for this game, and I'm still excited about it. Preordered day 1 as a matter of fact. Still play it more than any other game throughout the year, and will this year as well. But that doesn't change the fact that I'm disappointed that the game still, for the most part, looks like a PS3 game. Graphics are never going to be a deal breaker for me, but I do at least wish I could differentiate the game from MLB 12, which largely, you can't. The gameplay however, is the best of any sports game out there IMO, so that'll always keep me coming back. But I don't think it's fair to dismiss that large of a number of people's disappointment as them being ungreatful. Majority of the time when that many people are dissapointed, it's warranted. But to each their own. We're obviously all here because we love the game and want it to be the best it can be. Gameplay wise, I believe it's absolutely the best out there. Graphics wise, it's not even close.

I think while some of the comments may show an unhappiness about things I truly believe most people wind up buying it anyway due to their love of the game of baseball. I also though think it is normal for people to always want more. Isn't that the way it is in life in general? Most people want a bigger and better house, more features in a car, etc. Its just the way life is.

I think at the end of the day the game will be great and most of the community will be happy with it. And those who are not well you paid the $70 dollars so if I was SDS I would say thank you for your business HEHE. I know i preordered the Jeter version on day 1

AS for Graphics I am to old to even notice. I loved the 22 graphics

It’s the same story, you are going to have the group that it doesn’t matter what is added to the game that will bad mouth it and hate it. Then you will have the group that will always love it and protect it.
I passed on 21, I then waited on 22 until I read reviews from some of the people here that I feel will give the game a fair shake and went ahead and purchased 22.
You just have to use your own judgement if your really wanting a independent review of the game.
I’m an old guy so I think the graphics are good but with that being said I don’t own any games that probably push the graphics limits so I don’t know any better.
The biggest piece to me is the loss of Y2Y, the ability to keep historical rosters and SOTS.

I'll say the player models and uniforms are exactly the same, sure. But think about the lighting, stadium details, equipment details. Those have seen huge upgrades since MLB 12.
