    Franchise Mode- Rainouts/Doubleheaders

How hard can this be to add? I mean this happens multiple times every season. Baffling, would add such a nice interesting wrinkle and challenge to franchise mode. Managing the pen and rotation, starting 9 etc etc in games leading up to and after the doubleheaders. Make weather a more integral part of the mode. for example, maybe get a weather report every pre game. Like - weather looks clear, or light rain expected-should not affect game, or heavy rain expected to start after game time, suspended/cxld game likely, or heavy rain forecast for tomorrow, rainout likely then etc etc. They did a 1/4 measure with adding the pretty much pointless rain delays a few years back, why not add this for true realism?

Well let me put it this way. They still do not let you edit coaches and some games have been doing that for almost 10 years now. So. I do not think its they are not able to do it. I just think they either don't want to as I am sure it can be complex or really do not see the value in adding it.

      1) its most likely a LOT harder to add than you're alluding. It would force the schedule to have to adjust itself on a regular basis for every team involved.

      2) probably a very low priority as far as what gamers would be asking for. I'm sure a very small number of people are clamoring for rainouts and checking weather.

I'm no game developer so I could be off base here but this has struck me as something that would be incredibly difficult to do. It would require a full scale change to a scheduling system that isn't inherently dynamic.

I wish it were easy, it'd be awesome, but if it's as challenging as I suspect I can't blame them for not doing it tbh

very low priority for sure. thought it would be neat to see if you had a double header and the player plays in both games they are super tired for the next game.

They clearly dont want to. I mean there are so many things they could do to make the game; especially franchise, much better but choose not to.

            Rain outs
            day/night DHs
            Weather reports/studio updates
            customize managers/schedules/season length
            ejections
            AI bullpen logic
            more trade slots
            more opt out options

            So many more...
            NCAAB-North Carolina Tar Heels
            NCAAF-Michigan Wolverines
            NFL-LA Chargers

Correct, they choose not to, for a variety of reasons. Mostly due to these not being worth the undertaking it would require to make them work.

I feel like a lot of these things they would need to totally redo the code from the group up in franchise mode to add. Do they really want to rewrite the entire code? Not sure. That is a lot of work. Maybe for ps6? who knows.

sad, there are even 2 scheduled doubleheaders this year in MLB, The Rangers and A's in May, and I believe the Giants and Rockies in July.

Maybe those were coded in! We don't know yet.

I did not notice that. Was there a specific reason they did that?

                        Re: Franchise Mode- Rainouts/Doubleheaders

They’ve mentioned in previous years that they would like to do these things, but they have to weigh the risk vs reward compared to getting some of the easier stuff in. Coding all this stuff in would have to be a total rewrite and the amount of testing they would have to do for it would take one full cycle just for one of these things.

As much as I’d love to see it, there are other things they need to clean up in Franchise mode first before they get to it. And these under the hood legacy fixes are the first place to start before they get into the more detailed fixes like rainouts and doubleheaders.

That was I was thinking as a buddy of mine does coding work. I think to rewrite the code you would really need to redo the entire game. I know games that they have tinkered with code and it made one thing nice and messed up another. So maybe years down the line if they ever face lift the game

Before I got into the tech world I used to think it was simple to add things to any game. Since I’ve gotten into the tech world, I’ve realized just how much testing needs to go into coding a product, and the tech I’m working on is nowhere near as complex as what goes into making a video game. Plus sports games having an annual cycle means they really only get 6-8 months to add new features.

The simplest change could screw up something in a totally different area unintentionally. So for something like putting in rainouts/doubleheaders, I’d assume they’d have to rewrite and test not only the schedule, but also the UI, player stamina, all of the player statistics, the awards screen, simming these games vs playing them, manage mode vs quick sim vs playing, in-game time changes, and I’m sure a few other areas.

On top of that, they’d have to test all of these things within March to October and RTTS since the schedule system is the same for both. So it’s not as simple as just putting in a section of code to add the feature and being done with it.

Funny how graphical games made back almost 20 years ago had no problem doing this (MVP and MLB 2K7)

All Star Baseball had rotating interleague schedules and schedules that could even accomodate expansion teams.

Even text sims today and yesterday had better schedule generation than the Show ever had.

Please quit making excuses for the development team.
