A couple years ago they made 5 teams have nothing but day games all year and couldn’t ever fix it. Doubt they can reschedule rainouts.

SDS is the furthest away since the gameplay is in a great place, but it would allow them to add depth to the key modes that they can’t really do in a year.

I’d pay $20 for a roster update and some updated uniforms/faces for a year or two if it meant in 2-3 years, most of the updates the hardcore fans are looking for would get added to a drastically changed game. Not sure how the contractual obligation to the league impacts that though.
MLB licensing agreements probably require them to put out a new game every year, so that decision is not up to SDS to make, otherwise EA/2K would have pushed back on the NFL/NBA a long time ago. Konami doesn't do annual releases with Pro Spirits in Japan probably because their agreement with NPB is a lot more favorable, so historically they'll have roster updates/gameplay updates in between a major release.

What I like to do before the new game comes out is rewatch the older feature premieres every year leading up the new versions so I can temper my expectations but MLB 21 was when they first declared that they were going to rework Franchise from a foundation standpoint. The actual reality is, they've been redesigning all the offline modes since MLB 21. So in my mind, I interpret MLB 21 as the new "base" version of The Show, which was MLB 17 prior to that for me.

The devs make it a point to frame all of their changes and future changes as things that started from MLB 21 every single year, and they're constantly iterating and adjusting the systems that make those modes work for the future of the series. They even talked about this in yesterday's stream.

Money is king. I don't think they just forgo a year of profits. Madden was top 5 in video game profits last year. I highly doubt they take a year off to "rework the game".

Now if you're telling me one of the releases was so bad that it didn't sell, than that would be what would make them to take a year off to improve things if needed.

That was awful, and was game breaking for some. I hope that never sneaks back into the game.

Madden and NBA2K have rainouts and doubleheaders, so it has to be easy. C'mon man, get your act together Sony... wait, nevermind.
